Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020/2024)

Hi, I'm quite surprised and just curious if you are experiencing my results too. Since Sim Update 5, I am getting drawing distances I have never seen before since release. Notice how buildings are still being drawn even at 30000 feet, I am sure that was not the case in Sim Update 4. Is there anyone experiencing similar visual improvements with Sim Update 5? I am getting a lot more pop in when I pan the view, but it is really worth for the significantly higher drawing distance and performance. My terrain LOD and objects LOD are set to 200, Terrain Vector Data, Buildings and Trees to set to Ultra, as usual.

I opted to not download most of the world updates....just installed the USA for now. Do we know if any of the other updates like Japan, Nordics etc are required to make the sim operate normally?

I am currently "uninstalled" waiting for the bottlenecks to go away. I intend to do a completely "fresh" install as contrasted with a reinstall. My installation was a Windows Store variety. I intend to place the new install in a custom location. In the meantime I am looking for any information on how to purge without future impact some left over empty folders I see and to clean up any other orphans and widows so to speak. I ran a registry check with CCleaner but nothing MSFS related came up in its resulting list of issues to resolve. I have also done some pecking around in appdata. Can someone tell me how i get the plane symbol in the Hangar ( middle one of those 3 symbols ) to do his job ? This is the one where you can choose your like position and zoom in and out your own. It was some tricky before but got it, now i can`t select it..🤫..any help therefor ? cheers 😉

I started flight from KSAN to KSEA on IFR flight plan. After Tower cleared me for take off and I departed, I get handed over to departure frequency, but the only choice I have is KSAN tower. When I try to change to departure frequency ATC window only shows me only KSAN Tower selection option. Odd to say least!

It looks like you switch it on in the assist menu, but how does it know when to trim? Does it only do it on level flight? Can you bind it?

Yes, I'm gonna rant for a moment. Forgive me. But there are continuing, repeating "This is Bad!!!" or "This is Broken!!!" or "The Panel Knobs Are Now Blue!!!" complaints threads about the SU5 update. And many of them could have been avoided if the poster would have just read the Release Notes that are INCLUDED in the MSFS download area for the SU5. C'mon, people. If you are gonna use a $100+ piece of software update, at least READ the darn Release Notes to see what has changed in it. Whether it's the out-of-the-box A320 or latest FBW A320 (dev version) I cannot seem to get "toggle spoilers" (i.e. speed brakes full on / full off) function working off the joystick button it used to. To date this has always worked - ever since first release - on button 3 on my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro (I never had to assign it manually as it was part of the original MS shipped Logitech 3D Pro profile). Tried the "Num /" keystroke as a workaround but that too doesn't have any effect. Hi, I have experienced some hotter cpu cores. Before the Update I would get under 80°C. After flying couple of hours maybe some of the cores maxed out to 83-85. Now it's straight above 80°C and tends again to go to the 90°C. I thought I had my oc under control, but with this new update seem I need to figure everything out again. Running a i9-10850k with Noctua D15 @ 4,8 Ghz. CPU utilization is still about 10-16%, did they update this to multi core? PS: How can I disable this annoying (for PC users at least) blue tool tips that appear when hovering over buttons or other aircraft switches?

We all knew what would happen with the XBox release, let's be honest. I read a few topics during the installation last night and I noticed that some people are still in denial. This is no surprise either. Apart from moving the glass cockpit load on a separate thread (which took them one year by the way) we could not expect miraculous optimizations in order to shrink that beast of a sim in less than 16 GB of "shared memory". On my system at 1440p/Ultra I run the sim with a frame limiter at 72 fps and it still has headroom in most situations. It's no big thing, but the exc key press no longer returns you to the sim when leaving the options menus. You have to press "resume" I like it the old way, but maybe I'm a curmudgeon.

Loading .PLN files actually works as before SU5, but no matter if it's the GNS530, the G1000, when checking the FP Page, there is always a fix called TIME or something like that, and the GPS doesn't actually recognize the route nor follow it obviously. Might it be out of date Navigraph navigation integration after SU5?

Updated no worries, now i cant turn on any switches etc i get the notification when i hover over a switch saying hold or press the ? etc but nothing happens. Obviously i have missed a step some where?

After installing the update my sim is unusable. When I'm in the menus the sim will pause for like a minute before I can click something. When I do get a flight going the sim will just pause for a few minutes and then proceed, only to happen again a minute later. I have tried everything with no luck. Empty community folder, unplugged all controllers and still the same. I uninstalled MSFS and reinstalled with the same issue. Any one have a clue. This is a brand new computer 11900, 3080,32mb ram. Flight sim ran like a dream before yesterday. Josh

I can't express how happy I am with SU5. The money I spent on building a new rig just to run this sim in all it's glory has finally paid off! Even in dense urban areas like NYC, Seattle, etc I am getting consistent frame rates at around 55fps with it occasionally dipping down to 45fps, that is still very good considering I am running this sim at it's maximum settings in 4k. Flying has never been so smooth in my life. The future of flight simming is finally hear and we now have the ability to finally enjoy it at such a high degree and level of immersion. I am so not used to taking off and landing so 'Fluidly'......SU5 for me has worked a miracle I tell you guys....I am buzzing right now!! I dont know what my frame rate is but it is a hell of a lot smoother than my last flight yesterday, I cant believe it! So much more enjoyable now. Does anyone know why I'm getting screen glitching when changing or moving the camera views? There is screen flashing when switching from internal to external view and artifacts on the screen at the top (where the in flight menu is) moving the camera. Switching off TAA in anti aliasing stops the glitching/flashing but I should be able to use TAA as before. Thanks for the help. UPDATE I restarted the sim and removed the cessna longitude mod I was using and not seeing the glitching now.

Good morning, is there any list or thread that summarize or give tips about which settings you should use in MSFS2020 to get the best results. Not only internal settings but also settings regarding nvidia inspector etc. For example i read something about setting "Rendering" to 400 manually in the .cfg? Thank you in advance! Regards, Thies

I am having the issue that MSFS stalls at the main menu. Occasionally, it runs again, but is most of the time frozen. It may be a memory related issue as it takes a lot of RAM apparently. When it does run, it is buttery smooth and love the update, but this is annoying. Anyone having similar issues?

Hey all Living on Dartmoor with possibly the worst internet on earth at the moment it's going to be a day or two before I can play the update. My main gripe with the previous build was the tree LOD being nerfed. I have a reasonable system with a 5700XT. I'm happy with 30FPS although I suspect I'm going to get more. What effects do changing the LOD in the CFG have on the dreaded pop up and tree draw distance now? It seems some people are getting terrible pop up and some aren't. I guess I need to see how it runs on my system. Does altering the value have a massive affect on frames or quality of the scene? Before I dive in, thoughts appreciated.

Here I was thinking I was one of the anointed ones with a painless and relatively quick update all things considered (about 1.5 hours to download and install the main update) and maybe I am... had a really smooth flight in the updated JP Logistics C-152 and no visual glitches, even VR now gives me just the right amount of vertigo. However I have had 3 or 4 CTD's now when in the world map section to start a flight. When I zoom in for a view of less than a few hundred miles across, I get a freeze and then CTD. Hello folks, After SU5, I see a lot of POI markers for areas all around. I have tried to disable these from the assistance menu but they are still present, any idea how to turn these off? Thanks

Just completed the MSFS update today. I have been flying the FBW A320 for a couple of weeks now with very few problems. Now several things have changed. For example when I hover over the ADIRS buttons to turn on the alignment, all I get is the buttons turning blue and am unable to turn the buttons. When I go to turn the transponder on, it wont turn on. Cabin floodlights are inop so cant do a cold and dark at night. What happened? Any suggestions. I have already removed the FBW folder from the community folder, and put it back in. No joy.
