Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020/2024)

One of the reasons I seldom engage in long distance flights in any airline simulation is that usually mid flight I am called to go to the shopping, supermarket, ... It would be great to have APPs that could allow me to control some of the aircraft (MCP / FMC) remotely, as well as answer to whatever ATC I am using (FSHUD and BATC are the ones I use these days with MSFS).... That would save me trashing my flights quite so often 😞

Hi all I have a strange issue with my install of MSFS. The sim freezing then CTD when landing at Tauranga (NZTG) ONLY with a Cessna 172!. It would appear that on my set up ANY Cessna 172 and ANY NZTG dont like each other. I can land with no problem at all other airports I have tried in the Cessna 172 with the WB Sim add-on. Also every other aircraft I have tried is fine landing at NZTG. However if I try to land either the default Cessna 172 or the WB Sim enhanced Cessna 172 I get a freeze then a CTD as soon as the wheels touch the runway at NZTG. Recently for reason or reasons unknown my copy of the sim reset and in the process I lost my joystick settings ... have been to Steam Cloud and downloaded a saved version of my profiles... can someone advise as to whether I can reset the profile for use, and if so, how do I do it ...??

I searched the forum and couldn't find an answer. I realize the stick in the real copter works differently, but I still feel there should be a work-around force trim that takes all pressure off the stick when pressed. I believe even the Heuys had this back in the 60's. I know in real helis the cyclic stays in it's forced trim position, but few of us have joysticks that allow that. A force trim should take pressure off the stick. I do have cyclic longitudinal and lateral trim set up on a hat switch, but these take a lot more work than a simple force trim and release button. I installed the free version but didn't like it all, simply because I overlooked an important feature: namely, that you can disable the handlebar entirely, so that only Flow shows. Makes a world of difference. I've reduced the size of the wheel to as small as possible, and it's pretty unobtrusive, instead of this giant and ugly handlebar. Will probably spring for the paid version at some point because of the extra features. The only thing I don't like is that if you call up the wheel, the settings page also appears on the top right of your screen.

Good morning pilots 🙂 Approximately a year ago I found out that METAR and ATIS was suddenly no longer available for my Fenix Airbus. There was an update last summer or so and since that day all these features where disabled. The answers I got where in the range of "that doesn´t matter, this is not important, just look on the smartphone for destination airport weather data, the weather data can also be looked upon also in the EFB, press B and the QNH is set automatically..." - but no I insist in flying immersive 😉 which means I want to get a pure raw METAR code send via MCDU. So I launched into MSFS today, when I have the FPS counter up, it shows I have a max of 10.9 GB VRAM on the main menu, once I load into the sim, it drops to only a total of like 8.9. Ive never seen this before, why is this happening? I have a RTX 4070 with 12 GB of VRAM.

Figured I'd do a fairly modest long haul route in real time to stress test system/sim performance and stability over a long period of time. Everything was pretty much vanilla with no fluff -- no traffic, vatsim, ATC plugins, map enhancement tool, etc. Just the 777, addon airports, GSX, and Volanta. The route was RJAA-LSZH. I went away from the sim for about an hour or so, and when I returned, the plane was in the water, almost exactly over the north pole. Up until that point, everything was actually going really well. This used to automatically start when I started MSFS, but now I have to manually select it. Anyone know how to make it automatic?

Anyone ever figure out how to zero out the data use counter in MSFS? I tried changing the date to reset it, and nothing works, it always just keeps counting?/

A recent thread had the statement 'MSFS2020 is ugly'. I didn't think so but on my new system MSFS looks amazing. I f you ever wondered if it is worth going 4k and HDR 10, the answer is absolutely YES Not only is MSFS not ugly, it is absolutely mind blowing and amazing on my new PC! I just can't believe how the combination of 4K and HDR makes MSFS quite stunning! the cliché of 'its like a new sim' is quite apt!

When my friend and I are flying together in a multiplayer flight from the same runway, whit the default Cessna 172 and with live wheather and have the same time set, I always get a much more twitchy ride then my friend. It´s like my plane are reacting to a more intense wind than my friend. Even if I momentarily realease my hands from the controls to rule out any input i´m doing to the controls, my plane jerks more from side to side and up and down then my friends plane. I wonder why that´s the case? None of us have any mods to our planes. We´re not more that 100 yards from each other when we reach the designated altitude. Do you need to manually update the PMS GTN 750 database with latest airac cycle or does it just use internal MSFS one?

I got myself in the situation that it looks like one of my addons broke the aircraft landing and taxi lights, they are mere blobs instead of good looking 3d lights. Recognized this first in the FSR500, where the taxilight looks like a single torch light just pointing directly downwards to the tarmac, resulting in a round circle of light and now also with the landing lights on the PDMG 777, something is wrong, it results in a light blob on the fuselage just next to the landing lights, nothing like seen in the vids online. Hi guys, I've been away from simming for a while but getting back into it now i have more time. I've been watching some youtube stuff and installed the frame gen mod as i have a rtx 3090 card and an amd ryzen 9 5950x cpu with 32 gig of ram. (running latest drivers for nvidia) Now I installed everything as per instructions and ran msfs, everything ran great and was getting an excellent fps . my issue is this on subsequent attempts to run msfs I can get to the main page and select my airport and aircraft (either payware or the types that come with msfs) but when I then select fly now when the next screen comes up the blue bar gets to about 40% and then …

last week i had micro center install a new 4080 super and was getting over 100 fps then yesterday frame generation stopped and now back to 50 to 60 fps . no changes in nvidia control or changes in msfs have been done. i run a 7800x3d and even 60 fps is not bad but no longer getting over 100 it seems all of a sudden frame generation just stopped working . as stated above i did not make any changes in the sim . is hard for me to think my asus brand new gpu is bad and all temps are great on all hardware and ram which is 64gbyts . any thoughts are thanked in advance. Are there any decent, MSFS2020 specific, training books either available or on the horizon? Back in the day, I had a superb book called Microsoft Flight Simulator X For Pilots - Real World Training, by Jeff Van West and Kevin Lane-Cummings. It had a very friendly, informal approach and led you from basic flight theory, all the way through to using Vatsim. But the real beauty of the book was that, upon purchasing it, you were given a link to download umpteen training files that sat alongside each lesson. I have been using the AUTO Ground Service mode, and when I get my flightplan from SinmBrief, both in the FMc and EFB and the Ground Ops start, fuel is never loaded, whreas the rest follows a consistent process with cargo, water supply, jetways ... and the progress bars show it "growing", but although the fuel truck can be seen at it's position the fuel never gets loaded 😕 I do not have GSX! Any hinst? Thx! (so... yes... I ended up buying the PMDG before the Flight Factor because the FF continues unavailable at the .Org 😕 )

Is there a change log or post anywhere for this update?
