Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020/2024)

How far away are players rendered in my sim, and can that range be adjusted? Is there some map that shows where players are flying - kinda like a vatsim map?

Installation went smoothly except for one thing. When I clicked on CONTROLS, it showed all my USB connected hardware (throttle, rudder pedals, etc). Each one with a graphic underneath and fully functioning. The Yoke control shows the connected model in the top list bar but instead of a graphic it has a default greyed out controller with a big ? question mark on it. Regardless of what I connect - Yoko, Saitek, Logitech, etc. They all show as listed but no graphic and no ability to program and therefore don't function either. Any ideas would be welcome. Hate the thought of reinstalling considering this is the only thing not working right now.

The heading indicator in the default C172 seems to be locked to the current heading and faces no frictional precession like it does in real life, and there's no need to ever check the mag compass... Is there any hope for this being added in?

Downloaded Standard Edition from Xbox Game Pass. Configured Saitek Rudder pedals simple. Configured Saitek Yoke hats and switches OK. Configured Saitek quadrant OK, using mouse to set flaps. Had a game configuring Bodnar A/D card inside the Saitek Yoke. Fiddling about and then it just suddenly recognized it as if by magic. More luck than judgement. It works. I must be doing something wrong, but in most aircraft, I can't figure out how to set the NAV (and sometimes also COM) radios. Right now I'm flying in the King Air, and don't see how to set anything.

I think this came on, when I switched to developer mode. Now I disabled the developer mode, but this FPS-Info still comes up every time... Does anyone know where to switch it off? Thanks! Ralf

I'm trying to set up my hat switch as POV. In previous sims this was quite a simple matter. You went to the views section of the controls setup and assigned "POV hat switch - PAN". In this sim it appears by default that hat switch views are "locked" but can be "unlocked" with a "toggle unlock" key. I cannot find this key and have no idea what its purpose is. I do wish the controls menus were simple drop down lists rather than the style over substance menus in this sim which look very pleasing but are not at all practical. Any tips gratefully received.

When I load the default A320 on a runway ready to fly, engine 1 starts in reverse thrust anyone else have that problem?

I would never have guessed the sim would perform so well on my ancient system. Much to my surprise FS2020 upon first launch recommend "High Settings". And there I thought I would be lucky with low settings before i decided to purchase. i7 980x 6-cores running at clock 3.33Ghz (not tried Hyper Threading yet) - 18 GB RAM (DDR3), Abit MB Deluxe V2, SSD drive, GTX 780 6GB VRAM (Strix) - 24 inch 1980-1200 screen I don't care about FPS (that leads to the dark side so i stay away from it) but the sim performs very smoothly on average. While my system is not absolute top of the line, it is above the optimum suggested by MS (Ryzen 3700X, 32 Gb Ram, 2070 Super, FS on NVMe SSD). Still, launching the program is unusually slow. I wonder if what happens on my system is general experience, or if something may have gone wrong with my install. 1) When double-clicking the FS icon, NOTHING happens for over 30 seconds, my desktop remains visible, nothing indicates that the program is starting up. Users will be tempted to doubleclick again. 2) After those 30 seconds the screen turns black and empty for about another 15 seconds 3) Now, after 45 seconds without any message about the program loading…

If you wish to start cold & dark (all systems off) you are supposed to start at the parking spot not at the runway. However, at my local airfield (EPWS) there are no parking spots. So the only way for cold & dark is to start at the runway, taki to the (imaginary) parking spot, turn off everything and save? And the load - but the saved flight contains all - the desitination etc. Any option to add parking spots? Or to overcome this?

My first flight: C152 So I finally got all my controls set up the way I wanted, and took my third flight in the sim today. Now I will preface this by saying that ground handling is terrible. I still think the torque factor on initial power application is ridiculous, although once you're airborne p-factor is fine. And the actual in-flight handling of the 152 seems pretty darn good. It's beautifully modeled. I love the prop effect, looks very realistic. But once you touch down again on landing it's right back to being garbage. But that aside, on my setup (stock 8700K, …

My first impression is the default MFS rendition is superior to the older Orbx payware version. The surrounds are waaay better, like the up-to-date McLaren Racing headquarters and tech center nearby. Crystal clear scenery even when flying low and slow. Very pleased to see this level of scenery as the default. It is not perfect, but, very encouraging and those misplaced houses can be easily fixed. I'm off to see South Hampton. Maybe we can save some upgrade money.

Maybe that will be a nice freeware intro by one of our 3rd Party Devs.

I hope MS does something to improve loading times, this is unbelievable. Just getting to the main menu takes an eternity. It is taking even longer today than yesterday. How can this be so slow? Cheers, Pete
