Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020/2024)

One of my biggest gripes about the sim is an apparently design decision that we need to elevate as there is absolutely no good reason for it to exist and it causes major problems. Take a moment and move your mouse to any windows that you have open other than the main cockpit view, like the ATC, the Virtual Map or the Checklist and while the mouse is there try to control the aircraft with the yoke, your rudder pedals, etc. You'll find that all controls are frozen. Worse, the things you're doing are being cached and then quickly fired off when you move the mouse back into the cockpit area. This has caused me to have countless problems. Virtualfly have updated their Test and Calibrate app to now be compatible with MSFS2020. I only have the TQ6 and can confirm it works great, including reverse functionality. Make sure you clear any bindings you have in MSFS before use. https://www.virtual-fly.com/en/msfs2020-faq Cheers.

If you put the focus on another window (Program) all the stutters and freezes magically go away. You can test this by hitting the windows key to bring up the start menu while flying. The downside is you can't use the keyboard and mouse while doing this. But I found I can map all the buttons on my joystick and get by with infrequent use of the keyboard. If you have a single monitor you can just bring up file explorer... resize it and put it at the bottom of the screen and leave the focus on that window. I'm running modest hardware.... i5-4690, 16GB, RX 580 with 8 GB VRAM. Give it a try. This means these problem are fixable by Microsoft.

After making a flight plan and loading the game (takes a lot of time) I spawn at the gate with apu and the engine running and a tow truck gives me pushback. I want to make a cold start.

Can we compile an official add on list for stuff that is being released or has been released for MFS2020 ? I am not really enjoying the stock planes whatsoever. All of the controls etc are the same, very undetailed and the flight models are just really phoned in. One plane flies like the next, with little difference. Would love to enjoy this game with something else to fly ! It looks great though!

I went sight-seeing to visit the beautiful churches of my faith, but I’m a little disappointed. The cathedral-esque church in my hometown turned out to just be cruciform shaped grass next to the rectory. I just assumed since my area is a small rural town that the ai messed up. My wife and I then checked out segovia. The beautiful cathedral there is also just cruciform shaped grass. So now I’m wondering if the ai just doesn’t have a cruciform shaped asset to fill those 2d images. Having just completed my first (fairly short) flight in MSFS, I must say I rather like it! Judging by posts here and elsewhere I feel like I must be one of the lucky few that actually managed to get it fully downloaded and installed with one click, and after a bit of housekeeping on my system (driver update and turning Hyperthreading ON) I was up and running. Performance on my fairly mid-range by today's standards system is actually not bad at the installer-recommended HIGH preset. Just talked to tech support. They are aware of the 'missing planes' in some installations. They are also experiencing some sort of 'outage' and do not have a ETA for restoration. Nice and vague of them: Based on my resources, This error actually crops up on Microsoft's list of known issues with Flight Sim on Steam and MS. We can try to do some basic troubleshooting steps on it. First step is to Remove and re-add your profile. If this issue relates specifically to one profile on your Xbox One console, the profile data may be corrupted. I'm having a terrible time trying to make my joystick work in this Sim. I've watched a couple of You tube videos, but I'm not having any success, I must not be doing it right. I'm trying to do the things suggested. When assigning buttons levers ect., it doesn't seem to recognize anything that I'm trying to doing and I don't want to screw things up. Currently in Egypt flying down the Nile, and thought I would send you all a little positive note in the heat that is emminating from these forums 🙂 I planned this trip a couple of weeks ago in anticipation of the release. I have been flying mostly GA, and I started out in southern Norway, flying via Oslo down the Swedish coast to Copenhagen. Then onwards through Germany, into Switzerland where I had a great time flying into Innsbruck. There were a lot of people there, and it was glorious 😄 Leaving Innsbruck for Bolzano and through the mountain vallys further into Italy. The first few days I couldn't get the sim to run well at all and was about to shelve it until there was a performance update or I got a new CPU, but today I messed around and it is working much better. I stopped over clocking my i7-4790k which Lange_666 suggested, whacked hyper threading on and got shot of the in game FPS limiter which I had previously set to 30. Before I was suffering huge stuttering and getting FPS 18 - 20 on low quality away from cities with a 2070 super. Now I am flying on high settings in 4k with a respectably smooth performance and solid 30-40 fps (albeit with clear skies and no traffic). I finally got MSFS to run, but now I'm having an issue that plagued me with sims for a long time until P3D, and that is the shimmer/jagged lines on straight lines. I'm running TAA and 100% render scale. Is anyone else experiencing this? Also using the latest nvidia drivers. System: i7-9700k GTX 1080 ti 32GB RAM

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but am very confused regarding my purchase of ms2020. ordered the premium deluxe version on Microsoft store in a July. Today is Friday some three days after release. Trying to find out how I will get my order...is it download or CD-ROMs/ DVD. Contacted Microsoft on phone ( at least tried to) but no reply. i live in UK so maybe I’ll get it from ms uk ??? Not sure. can anyone help & advise ( especially in UK). checking my ms store account it just says “ completed” no link if it is a downloadable product. Cheers SJ

It seems pretty clear that MSFS 2020 was designed with consoles in mind, plugged into a large screen television, It's gamepad ready. Gone is the clunky interface, gone are the stale menus of FSX/P3D. It looks polished, and it looks like someone actually paid attention to UI design. I'm hoping the game will bring in a new, fresh crowd of simmers with their own ideas and thoughts of how to improve MSFS. I feel a fresh wind blowing through the forums. Fresh voices, not only the same old same old crowd that's been on here for 20 years. I have disabled dev mode and it is still showing no matter what. Not sure if its a bug. But I cannot get rid of it now.

Not sure if this has been "discovered" yet but I found a way to fly a plane from gate to gate like the super traffic board did. I was so excited that I decided to share this. If you select a plane and pick a departure gate airport and an arrival gate airport the plane will fly automatically from point to point. You have to select all the options on the ai control and sit back and watch. It's not perfect but it's the best we have to work with. Seems like it lets the user plane function as an ai plane but I'm not an expert, just someone who misses super traffic board and real world liveries on accurate models. Okay, how many of you have completed the first training flight. Though I'm a fairly experience simmer I wanted to see if there were any hidden gems in the training flights (about operating the program not about flying a plane). So I attempted the first training flight . It uses a prop plane, the Cessna 172, which has, what I understand there to be, a mixture setting bug. The plane flies fine as long as the instructor has the controls but when she turns the plane over to me the plane looses power.
