Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020/2024)

Just a little over halfway.. Started on Release day.

I have to admit my thing is IFR, always has been. I spent hundreds of hours in PMDG's 737 in FS9/X/P3D and Level-D's 767 back in FS9. Printed check-list on my desk, charts for the airports, starting my flight cold&dark, you get the idea 🙂 While I wait for add-on planes, what are your recommendations on stock planes for IFR with good FMS integration? I gave the 787 a try, while it's a big improvement for a stock plane, it doesn't compare to the level of detail I am used to. I guess the A320neo is similar: not bad, but lacks of detail (and manuals, for me as Boing-guy ;). What is your take on the Business Jets? I noticed the clock is stuck in the CJ4, so I spe…

Since I upgraded my Windows to the most current version MSFS takes ages to load (approx 5 minutes). Before windows update loading times were about 5 times better. Anyone else expierence that? Anything I can do to fix this? Thanks!

So as I took off from my small local airport after being given the "ready to takeoff runway 03, wind 056 at 6", two jumbojets came rumbling down the runway in the oposite direction. Even though I was at first shocked, and then found it very funny, they obviously were not on vatsim with me 😉 Is there a traffic setting that will allow to show all vatsim players on the network, but not anyone else?

One of my favorite things to do with the old FSX and X-Plane 11 was to follow along to a well-written book that would introduce me to the systems and procedures of the sim. I know that's everyone's cup of tea but I really enjoyed learning it this way. Is anyone aware of a MSFS20 book in the works? I find nothing on the web nor at Amazon. Thanks

Hello all, I was finally able to complete the install after the patch. I could launch the sim, set my settings, set up a flight and then....nothing. When I press - Fly- nothing happens, it just stays on that screen. Am I missing something simple ? greetings !

No need to manually run the older simconnect. Links fine after today's update.

Compared to how FS2020 was when I first installed, I now notice things like tree's appearing more like sparse blocky triangular objects rather than nice looking trees! I have my setting at ultra and my internet bandwidth is unlimited (fiber optic, 700mpbs) so I dont know what could be happening? Any ideas?

Removed the message. Had enough frustration for one night, LOL.... I'll attempt to figure this out tomorrow after a good nights sleep.

Is it possible to create a fixed spot view as in FSX, where the aircraft moves relative to your viewpoint rather than the chase view where the scenery appears to revolve around a fixed aircraft? I can't shake the impression that the aircraft is bobbing about on a piece of string like something out of Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds- if you're old enough to recall that ordeal by puppetry!

Second time this has happened to me in the King Air. I flew into CYYZ and it was dark by the time I landed. I went to turn on the landing lights and, just as with the time before when this happened, they snap instantly on and off (though the switch says they're on). If I flip the switch off and on and again, the same thing happens. They flash on and then off again. The taxi lights don't even do this. They just never illuminate. I assume I'm doing something wrong in the cockpit with a switch somewhere as I get the sense this isn't a bug. Oddly, I've tested this at other times and had them working just fine. Any ideas what I might be goofing up?

So if the simmconnect is working now, will the acars programs I have on my VA's work? Do those still have to be configured to work with MSFS? Thanks. Duane

I visited Ullapool in Scotland. Little town has a special place in my heart. Then I spot an actual fishing boat and zoom in. Was I excited to see it properly modelled. Then I noticed whoever at Asobo did this is not the most 'quality' guy: the boat floats backwards! Listen, guy at Asobo! Predictably, this forum is now clogged with so-called "performance fixes", most of which don't do a thing, many of which are going to mess up your system and/or your installation. Folks who post these tips usually wiggle themselves out of responsibilty by saying that it worked for them and may not work for you. For so reason I'm getting terrain waterfall or tiling/scrolling unsmooth when I set my FPS from 60 to 30 with or without VSync. 60 FPS is super smooth but as soon as I switch the FPS to locked at 30, in the sim settings, the terrain scrolls un-smoothly when flying over and also when rotating my external view around my AC... Can anyone advise why this is happening as I'd like to keep my FPS locked at 30 even on my i9-9900k (OC at 4.8) and my 2080 Super, with 32GB Ram system Ram.

I fly with the SoloPanel (Cockpit) from Virtual Fly. with three monitors above the cockpit panel. I cannot find a way as there was in FSX or P3d with the W key pressing it for two times to have only full forward view. Is there any key ?

I updated because they forced me to, sim was working flawlessly for me, and now I click on the icon and it's a black screen for me...

So I got home from work and fired up the sim to install the patch. I got a prompt to do an update, but it only downloaded 87 KB and then the sim started. I've been reading in other threads that I should also be getting a 300 MB or so file, but I didn't. I tried shutting down and restarting the sim, but now where it used to say that it was checking for updates, it is not anymore. Has anyone else run into this issue? Where does one check the version number in the sim?

Options in new flight for live weather and traffic are grayed out. Have checked General setting and are OK. My connections shows Online Europe 42ms --- Update Rebooted FS2020 and all back to normal..

Every time I exit MSFS by using the "Quit to Desktop" function from the Main menu, a "FlightSimulator.exe.[some number].dmp" file is created in C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\CrashDumps. An accompanying "FlightSimulator.exe" Application Error is recorded in Event Viewer. This occurs in both "Windowed" and "Full Screen" mode. When in "Windowed" mode, if I exit MSFS using the upper right "X" (Close window) button, no application error occurs and no ".dmp" file is created. So, check your "C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\CrashDumps" directory for these .dmp files. You may want to clean them out. And, before it gets asked, this is still happening after install…

So I thought this issue had been fixed in today's patch, but I was wrong. When I select a custom camera, the camera moves to that position. Great so far. However, clicking the same custom camera a second time moves me to some random position. Also, I have a hatswitch on my stick that I use for panning, and an easy way for me to reset it would just be to select my custom camera again, but after the first 10 seconds in the sim it always goes to some random position before it finally goes to the actual custom view on the 2nd try. Anyone else find this annoying?

I did this iPhone video of an IFR flight I have done in reality many times. It was awkward recording and flying especially the near minimums landing. And I screwed up I forgot to hit APR on the AP but the G1000 still intercepted the GS even though I flew right through it. I feel this was very realistic, the plane was buffeted quite a bit in the stormy WX, but the AP did its job perfectly. I only took over just above minimums. So here is a somewhat long vid, but I hope this shows how I use MSFS in a pretty realistic way on my 4 monitor system.
