Hi guys! I am looking to replace my Dell U2311H monitor to a new one with GSync technology, but don't know how to select one. I saw Acer XB241H, Acer XB271HU... I want a good one but no the most expensive...only want smoothness in the sim. You can see my system specs in my signature. Thanks

Hi! I am considering to buy a 4K 30Hz capable monitor to my PC. The size i want is about 24'. I see the Dell P2415Q or the BenQ BL2420U as two options. The BenQ is 30Hz capable but don't know if the Dell is. Another models? Is the response time important? I don't see movies in the PC, only normal use and P3D/XP. BenQ is 7 ms and Dell is 8ms. Also see the AOC U2477PWQ. I think is 30Hz capable. Is HDMI needed to run at 30Hz?

I think my 2011computer just died. It was awesome with a 990X CPU and dual 590 GTX cards. I get a failure to boot error/insert disk and press any key. If I need to re-load FSX again and al the airports, scenery etc, I'll do it on a new computer. Anyways, I want Stealth Machines to build my new computer; They recommend a 6-core Intel i7-5820 CPU, but I see I can get an 8 core Intel i75960 for $750 more. Also they recommend a GeForce GTX970 video card (4gb), but fir $1800 more, I can get a Titan Z with 12 GB. Are these upgrades ta the 5960 and Titan Z card going to show much improvement??

Hello all, after reading some threads here I went ahead and purchased a 4k TV, specifically a 55in Samsung UN55KU6300. Good review of it here: http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/ku6300 It supports 4k at 60 and 30Hz, both in 4:4:4 chroma. I am confused by the various opions on what my new settings should be. I am currently on a 42in flat panel non-4k, non 30Hz setup. I have a i7 6700 and a 980Ti. TV is at 60Hz. Currently P3D is set at unlimited, Vsync and Triple Buffer on, 16AF and MSAA off within P3D. In NI I have frame rate set to 30, 8xSGSS and that is pretty much it for NI. So now what is the best for this new 4k? Keep settings as stated above and run …

Hello all, I want to buy new monitor and upgrade from Full HD to 2K monitors, I use it mainly to fly FSX and DCS. I have GTX 970 and TrackIR5. No plan for VR at this moment and 4K monitors are way expensive and need strong graphic card. I have searched a lot but I am kind of confused which is better; Ultrawide (2560 x 1080 | 21:9) or WQHD (2560 x 1440 | 16:9). Based on my budget I found LG 34UM68-P 34-Inch as of Ultrawide and Acer H277HU 27-Inch as of WQHD. I would love to see your opinions guys, thanks

Apologies if this is a daft question, I'm looking to upgrade my monitors to 27" and realised that my current 22" monitors are 16:10 aspect ratio. If I want full HD quality, do I need to go with 16:9 aspect ratio? The 16:9 obviously loses a bit of vertical height but if its the way to get the best quality picture, then I'd be happy to go that route. I plan to go with 1920 x 1080 as I've read if I increase the resolution I will suffer lower frame rates. Thanks!

Hi all, I am in the proecess of trying to figure out how to bring down my refresh rate from 60Hz to 30Hz.I've seen many people enthousiastic about the fluidity and smoothness a 30Hz locked 30fps frame rate achieves. However in my particular LCD display it seems impossible to get a satisfactory result. That is because when I select 30Hz (or 29Hz) the colors become are very bad, like its a 16bit color depth. However in nvidia settings I make sure the color depth is in Full option.. My monitor is the Samsung T24D390 and it is connected via a HDMI calbe to the GTX 1070 GPU. My question is if there is any hack or method to get it down to 30Hz with the same image quality …

I'm currently on mediocre Asus Strix GTX 960 2gb, and plan to switch to Asus Strix GTX 980 4gb or one of the GTX 1060 6gb cards. I found used 4 months old Asus Strix GTX 980 4gb, and the price is THE SAME as for GTX 1060 6gb. Now, I know that 1060 will perform worse than 980 by 5-10%, and it is not a big deal breaker. 980 is 256 bit, and has 2048 cuda cores, which is good for video editing (Adobe Premiere) and for some 3D visualization apps. 1060 is 192bit, has 1280 cuda cores, and I'm not sure will it be on par with 980 in Adobe Premiere or similiar. Any thoughts? Ah yes, Prepar3d. I guess the performance will be similiar, and 6gb is a better solutio…

  13. VRAM holds much more than merely textures, and other things you take for granted....it holds frame buffer, color and light shadow maps, This was one of the best VRAM-How much do you need video explanations, that I have have viewed to date. We have so many comments on AVSIM, that P3D and FSX do not use more VRAM on their card, so a 4GB or 6GB card will suffice. Not actually so, if you wish to fully open up, your flight sim... Many of your visual headaches, texture popping, stuttering, just-can't seem-to-get-AA-to-my-visual requirements...can BE, because you simply do not have enough fast VRAM for your GPU to pull off of, store off of...and this results in…

Good afternoon guys, I have a latest generation i5, 4GB RAM and a 480GTX at 1.5 GB VRAM. What GPU would you recommend for this setup for running the PMDG-stuff? I usually use the latest AFCAD's rather than payware airports, but before making a purchase of P3D, just need to know what to look for GPU-wise as I know my GPU is not going to cut it for P3D. Many thanks in advance.

  17. I have just replaced my GTX460 with a Palit GTX1060 and cannot get a display on my TV via a HDMI cable. With just my monitor connected via the DVI connector all is fine. If I connect my TV via the HDMI port Nvidia control panel does not detect a second display so I use the "rigorous display" option and restart the PC. My monitor shows the Windows start screen and then goes black with just my cursor showing and my TV tells me there is no source connected to that particular HDMI connector. Can anyone offer any help please?

Hello. I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I am looking to purchase a new video card for a Dell OptiPlex 980. I was hoping to be able to put a dual-width card in this but I don't believe one will fit. As a result of that, I'm looking to find one that I can run 3 monitors with for FS9 (and possibly FSX) that will fit. I was original thinking possibly a GTX 1060 but because that's double-width I don't think I can. Does anyone have any recommendations? Looking to keep the price below $250. Thanks!

  19. Hey guys, just curious what the best method to record in sim P3D with? I tried ShadowPlay but it doesn't portray as smooth as my sim actually is. I am getting easily 30fps plus at all times when I took this video but, the raw file or in YouTube it appears somewhat stuttery at times. Not sure why because in game it was butter. Is there something better to record with, or should I check a few settings on this?

Further to my initial thread in 'New Members', http://www.avsim.com/topic/492939-just-joined-windows-or-linux/ I will be getting a new display as well as a new computer. For a few years now I have favoured Dell's 24in U2412M which has had very good reviews. I would have gone for a larger display but I am restricted by height and will need to be wall mounted which will give me a viewing distance of just under 30in. Looking back through older posts, I have seen this in poster's rigs. I currently have a 19in Dell which I have been very happy with for the last four to five years. Going back further in time, I seem to remember reading about a display that had …

  21. I just wanted to share some info, in which a reader could find interesting; Since installing an EVGA 1070 FTW 8GB graphics card a few weeks ago, I have been able to bump up each and every feature within P3D v2.x/3.x, FSX/DX10, and XP 10.51r to their maximum possible settings in all features, in all categories. This is how I now run all of my flight simulation. I run all my sims at a lock-down of 33 FPS, Vsync Adaptive at 1/2 my monitor refresh rate of 60 Mhz, and at DSR 2x (my native 1920x1200) at a smooth factor of default 33 percent. This is achieved by locking down the FPS to 33 max, within the EVGA O.C. scanner, and have all my sim's in-house FPS set to Unlim…

Not sure which forum to go to so starting with this one. Just received a new TrackIR 5 and so far not able to get it to function properly with FSX. My operating system is Windows 10 64 bit, video card is Nvidia GTX 980, I loaded the most recent software of 5.4.2 Also using the stock reflector for the ball cap that came in the box. As far as I can tell, the software seems to work OK with my head movements before starting FSX. After starting FSX and going to the virtual view of the aircraft panel, I only get jerky movements left and right and some up and zero down movement on screen. Also no close or far away views either. Have tried to re position the camera to b…

With apologies to Mr Shakespeare for the title... I'll be ordering a new system shortly, and as I want to run 3 monitors running mostly Prepar3d, and the Group Views command to set up the views, and possibly using a 4th monitor for the popup gauges...my question is to those people running 3 or 4 monitor setups. Would I be better with dual graphics cards running them in sli or not? Originally I thought that 2 separate cards with 2 monitors running off each might be the best solution, but I've seen that someone here runs a triple Titan X setup and has them sli-ed, so I'm now completely clueless about what might be the advantages and disadvantages of single cards…
