  1. Real world charts. Many countries' airport charts are available for free online. Sometimes it takes a bit of effort to get them, usually knowing where to look. The usual place to look for is "AIP" Aeronautical Information Publication. This is broken down into sections, e.g en-route, airports. For airports look for AD2 within the AIP Alternatively subscribe to Navigraph for monthly updates.
  2. If you want to learn how to fly a 737 using real world procedures search YouTube for flightdeck2sim, he's RL 737 captain and has done a lot of tutorials for flying the 737-800 as in real life, mainly the PMDG 738 and X-Plane Zibo mod 738. His early videos are the main tutorials.
  3. The CIX scenery is free so why not give them a go. I don't have a problem with frame rates and the scenery looks OK. I also have UK2000's VFR scenery.
  4. Try here James http://www.cixvfrclub.org.uk/operations/events/EVFiles/Farm_Strips/fs_downloads.htm I use their scenery for checking out routes that I will fly RW
  5. Another solution is to disable the Steam overlay in FSX in your games list on Steam right click MFS then click Properties from the dropdown list anad untick "Enable the Steam overlay while in-game" If you don't want the Steam overlay to be enabled in any of your Steam games then Steam->settings and untick the enable steam overlay. HTH Dave
  6. I predict that PMDG's 747 will be in our hangers before a certain 'Bus, which was front page news on Airdailyx.net as "Ready for takeoff" back in May
  7. You can do that by creating a macro in FSUIPC. I don't have the documentation to hand but look at the FSUIPC user guide and the advanced guide, details will be there.
  8. Search VATSIM forums for CPDLC and you will find many references. I haven't read all the posts but this one looks like a working example back in 2009. https://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=40595&p=301542#p301542 It would certainly help with big events such as CtP.
  9. If that decimal point is misplaced 7 places to the right then The Queen is a bargain
  10. Have you tried the Ezdok forum Will, there are 5 pages of posts on 1.18.7 http://www.simforums.com/Forums/ezca-v1187-p3d-v3-available-for-download_topic53929_page1.html I can't help other than that because I only have FSX and Ezdok works fine.
  11. I fly from next door to you Peter so heard all about the incident. Must have been quite scary, glad the outcome was good. Hope you invoiced the pigeon's owner for a new check list :-)
  12. If you downloaded the base pack, which is free, only a few airports will have AES activated and others will be in 'demo' mode. When you set up AES it will search your scenery.cfg file and list all the airports you have. That list will be shown in AES and each airport will show it's either free, in demo mode, or show how many credits is needed to activate that airport. Note that you can't buy say 5 credits and attach them to 5 airports then move them to 5 others, the credits remain with the airport you initially activate. All this should be clearly explained in the user manual.
  13. I can't find any link and it's so long since I installed it I may have it wrong but that tall building on approach is not in my FSX. It may have been from the Thomas Kwong VHHH (the new Hong Kong airport). If you have that installed try deactivating it in your scenery library and see if that tall building disappears. Failing that ask in the FlyTampa Kai Tak forum, someone must know!
  14. IIRC the FlyTampa version depicts a later landscape hence that skyscraper that's in the way. It's a long time since I flew into there but I think there was a patch that you could apply to remove the syscraper. Failing that see if the 9Dragons scenery is still available
  15. The Horizon GenX scenery is only for the UK AFAIK so not that useful to you IMO. If you really want it it's available here http://www.flightstore.co.uk/flight-simulation-c499/scenery-add-ons-c543/vfr-photographic-scenery-fsx-c544 Also Justflight sell a similar product Real VFR Scenery http://www.justflight.com/searchresults?category=products&query=vfr+scenery I gained my UK PPL just under 2 years ago and normally use FSX to fly routes to new locations so that I can memorize landmarks and waypoint features. If you plan your route as you would do in real life, draw your route on your chart, create your PLOG for no wind and set FSX to no wind, that way you can concentrate on just flying the route. Find an aircraft similar to the one you would fly so the view and performance will be similar. Have your chart handy and start flying while noting your timings to waypoints and matching those waypoints to your chart. It's very informative and fun. Dave
