What do you use? Which is better and why? Would I see any difference/benefit going from HDMI to DisplayPort? Or is this just a Ford vs Chevy kind of thing (to use an American automobile analogy), i.e. each has its own following?

I bought a samsung 4k monitor and was so stoked to try it out on P3d v3.4. I wish I had not bought it, I went from 30 FPS down to 16 FPS. I am running a GTX 970. I didn't know that it would cause this much of a performance hit. Am I out of luck with this or can I squeeze some performance out of my 970? Please help

Hi all, I have an Asus P8Z68-V mobo of which an EVGA GTX660Ti is installed. P3dv3.4 seems to struggle a bit with it so I was thinking to upgrade to something like a 980 GTX The bios is up to date on the mobo according to Asus but I was wondering if this generation of mobo would support the updated GPU. I'd appreciate if anyone has experienced this kind of updating and might point me in the right direction. Many thanks, Richard.

I tried to install nVidia latest drivers tonight 373.06. Installation went fine, but as soon as I try to enable SLI (2 Titan Xs) I get a black screen and then my system reboots. Windows 10 64bit Quick google search and I found someone else with the exact same issue here. I've attempted a DDU wipe and manual install of drivers but that didn't resolve it. I went back to 372.90 drivers and all is back to normal with a working SLI. Wondering if anyone else has ran into this problem with SLI setup? Cheers, Rob.

  8. I recently came into a small inheritance, which at my age I'm going to blow  and am looking for advice. I've scoured AVSIM and other on-line sites, but really can't find a definitive answer--if there actually is one--for one aspect of my new rig. I have three Phillips 43 inch native 4k monitors. One centered and the other two at about 30 degrees offset. The monitors stretch eight feet across and I sit about 3 feet from the screen, so my whole field of view is covered, as I don't like being confined to one screen. I always use Track IR at slow tracking speeds, and aren't ready yet for VR. I'm trying to drive all three monitors at 4k and am stuck at confi…

I wanted to share with you all something I have discovered in other simulators but seems to be really helpful with P3D smoothness. I am currently running on unlimited FPS as capping them always smashed my performance and gave me lower average fps. I was using Prepar3D built-in Anti Aliasing with triple buffering. Some time ago when playing with one of the mainstream bus simulators, I discovered that there is now a function of "FAST" Vsync in Nvidia Control Panel settings. Before the best shot was probably built-in vsync or Adaptive one, which still didn't work great for me and induced tearing. The main difference vs other types of vsync is that "fast" …

  10. Hello, fellow simmers! I was initially planning to replace my 5 year old computer this month. However we had some unexpected expenses, so I have to give it up for another year. But, instead, I successfully negotiated (good wife, good wife) getting a new monitor to replace my (nice anyway) 23" Samsung SyncMaster (1920x1080). I am still on FSX (boxed) and it won't change at least until I but a new PC, which means at least one more year I guess. My current system is not a most modern top-notch rig with a space CPU and moster GPU, lol: i5 2500k 3.3 GHz @ 4.0, GTX 560Ti 1GB, Z68, 8 GB RAM, WD Caviar 500 GB 7200 rpm, Corsair HX750W PSU, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.…

Hi, Looking at treating myself to a new GPU (currently running through onboard). Not looking to spend more than £350, £400 max (at a push) and like the look of some of these I came across on Amazon, but not really sure what to go for other than Nvidia based:- ASUS Turbo GTX 1060-6G 6GB = ~£240 ASUS Strix GTX 970-DC20C-4GD5 = ~£270 MSI GeForce GTX 1070 ARMOR 8GB = ~£395 Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 1070 G1 8GB GDDR5 PCI-E = ~£400 Does brand make any difference? Just for some info, I am currently running an i7 6700k on an ASUS Z170 M/B with 8GB RAM and using FSX:SE, but want to move to P3D + XP11 in the future. Any thoughts and input would be greatly …

  14. Hello, I was running FSX in full screen mode with 2 Nvidia GTX 970s in SLI surround mode with no problems. I found out I could add a 4th monitor as an accessory, well at least that's what I read. I added the accessory monitor via the display port as instructed and it works in windows 10. but when I start FSX in full screen FSX reverts back to windowed and if I hit Alt + Enter FSX crashes. any ideas. Am I even in the right forum? Mark

I never encountered an out of memory shutdown in all my years of FSX simming. I recently went from a Dell 2410 to a Dell 3415 Ultrawide and now am having significant OOM shutdowns on saved identical flights that I did fine with before.. Could converting to the Ultrawide be causing my OOM errors? Only other possibility is using ASCA 2016 full dynamic mode which is new for me. Thanks Grg

  17. Upgraded my graphics card on my 4790K (4,4ghz) and 1440p monitor system, and wanted to share my quick thoughts on the experience so far. Quality and performance in XP10 has gone up significantly. Most important is the ability to have 4x to 8x AA, which makes the graphics looks way better. Good AA is very important to me! In addition I can fly in heavy clouds with much less performance impact. What was a bit dissapointing though is performance in P3D in cloudy conditions. In clear weather I can do 4x sparse grid super sampling, and the graphics looks so much better. But in heavy clouds, performance suffers significantly. XP10 performs much better under this scenari…

  18. Are the new Nvidia 376.19 Drivers working right for SLI? How about now? Do they fix P3D SLI? Not a mention or any change as far as I can tell. Is the smoke and exhaust effects still flashing in SLI? Will someone confirm it please? Kind regards,

  19. Hello, I don't know what happened to change my software icons...but all I'm now seeing is the Nvidia settings icon. This is taking me to the Control Panel. I used to see the Nvidia icon that alerted me when new drivers were available for download (I was then given the option of manually downloading them for installation). How can I get the original icon back? Thanks.

I finally got a chance to fly the P3D on my 135" projector screen. The projector is SONY HW45ES bought for my simple home theater in the basement. All I want to say is that I was totally overwhelmed, awed, shocked by the few flight hours I had so far. The experience truly is incredible for being unbelievably life-like. I actually never had a strong desire to fly P3D on a screen of this size as I thought even 4K may not be of enough resolution at 135". Boy was I totally wrong. Even at ~6 feet away the 1080p solution feels at least more than 90% sufficient (I can say this because I also fly P3D on a 65" 4K TV). I guess that once you're approaching a screen close to…

Does anyone have any thoughts on this tv to be used as a monitor for P3D? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889356097&ignorebbr=1 With my statement credit I can get it for $335 total. Right now I have a 10 year old 24" monitor and am in desperate need of an upgrade. Is there something better I can get for the price that I might have missed when browsing through the sales this weekend?

  22. Do the new NVIDIA 376.09 Drivers (Nov.28/16) fix P3D SLI flashing effects? If someone else is willing to the be the first SLI Guinea pig, I will gladly wait on the sidelines to benefit from their indiscretion! Let's hope that Nvidia has successfully tried to address the problem. Kindest regards,

I have a somewhat aged home-built PC that I constructed originally about 10 years ago. I've put a new mobo, CPU and GPU in several times since then, but due to getting a new job at work and RL flying I have been too busy to do any simming for the past year or so- but I'm heading into my last year of work next year and so things are lightening up- thanks goodness. My current system is a P8P67 with an i7-2700K, and 8GB, and the GPU is a GTX 780 (3GB VRAM). Monitor is 1080p. I installed the X-Plane beta and I obviously need to do something to hardware . I intend to upgrade RAM to at least 16GB. On the GPU, which is my question: is a GTX 980 (4GB VRAM) a good upgrade…

Hi all Win 10 64 So over the weekend all was going well with simming until my sound stopped for no reason. I have an Asus Xonar DSX card and have my speakers plugged into the green port. I tried uninstalling the Xonar drivers and reinstalling them - no difference. The Xonar UI control panel seems to show a sound output being played, but I cant hear anything. Then I switched my speakers from the soundcard to the motherboard, updated the Realtek audio drivers and same issue - no sound. Device Manager confirms that the soundcard is working properly. I do have sound through my USB headphones, but that is nowhere near good enough. Any ideas? Given that I …

Hello all I am playing P3D. I have been running a 6 monitor setup for a while now, with a Titan Black card. The lower center monitor is a 34" curved. Will be keeping the curved. But am going to add an overhead projector: http://www.benq.us/product/projector/HT2150ST I was wondering if anyone had suggestions regarding the screen? Flat or curved? Dimensions ? This is a short throw projector, designed for small spaces. My room is 12 X 15 X 10 high. Many thanks for your suggestions.... Mark
