I'll start by saying that I am NOT particularly tech savvy. This may explain why my questions seem a bit stupid. My interest is in flying the sim not tweaking the pc so I'm hoping to get direct practical advice. I have included my current system spec below. My current sim is FSX boxed, but my target sim is most likely Prepar3d. Questions: 1. (4k tv spec): I am really turned around trying to understand what specs I should be requiring for a ~50" 4k TV. Any simple direction (and rationale) would be appreciated; 2. (My PC capabilities): I suspect (??) that my video card and RAM are both deficient for Prepar3d. If yes, what should I spend on upgrading t…

Greetings chaps and lassies. I'm about to order parts for my daughters Mini ITX rig. I've been buying EVGA cards for years, but as EVGA don't seem to do the AMD RX580, I'm in a bit of a puzzle re manufactures. What about Gigabyte guys, or MSI? Are they reliable these days? Anyone else? And what about the RX580, any other suggestions? It's just for gaming.

My hypothetical question: if I had two identical laptops except with a different display screen built into these two identical laptops: Laptop 1 has a native resolution of 3840x2160. Another identical laptop 2 except it has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080. Then would laptop 2 run FSX at a whole lot faster frame rate? or just a little faster frame rate? Or about the same framerate? -- Reference: I ran FSX just fine with quality add on scenery and airports on my old laptop (dedicated Nvidia gpu in that laptop, a 940M with 2 GB memory). I'm in market for a new laptop, wondering if should I get one with a native resolution like l…

  6. I've just put together a new system with more or less running FSX-SE in mind. A couple of days ago I installed FSX-SE (from now on FSX=FSX-SE) for the first time, Went to FSX.cfg and set . Started FSX and it gave me an option to set my resolution to 2560 X 1080. Did a short test flight. No problem. Started loading up the ORBX Demo's and REX WWAirportsHD. FSX crashed. Tried to run it multiple times, always crashed immediately after clicking on <Fly Now>. Decided to reinstall FSX, kept crashing. Finally uninstalled, went into Registry, cleaned out all references to "Flight Simulator" and "FSX", reinstalled, and just did a test flight. FSX did not crash. <Whew&…

Hi Everyone just finishing up a new build and want to finish it up with a new monitor. I am running an I7700K and GTX 1070 OC gpu. My problem is that my old monitor was a LG 24" 1920x1080 and i found it difficult to read some of the gauges at times. Do i look at purely a bigger screen size at 1920 x 1080 or should i be looking for additional resolution as well? My understanding is that text will be much smaller at the higher resolution and as such not sure what to do. I am 50 years old and don't see as well as i used to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers Tim Carter

  8. Hi guys, I am about to pull the trigger and upgrade my GTX470 to a GTX1060. They are both GDDR5 PCI express cards but will the GTX1060 be compatible with my P6X58D-E X58 MOBO (Socket 1366 DDR3)? My system is about 7 years old. I7 950 @ 4ghz with 6 gb RAM and SATA HDD if that helps you. Any advice greatly appreciated Martin

I own a 1080 GTX and was wondering what is currently the best driver for Win10 & P3Dv3? I remember see a few post suggesting some of the most recent driver releases have a memory leak. Thanks

Right on the heels of the 1080ti, we have the $1200 Titan Xp. (Yes, I will say you have more money than brains if you purchase this.) http://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-titan-xp-introduced-as-the-worlds-most-powerful-graphics-card/ http://www.geforce.co.uk/hardware/10series/titan-xp/

  11. Greetings, I have been having trouble with terrible frame rates on some of my payware planes. If I get 8-10 for example with my Feelthere E175 that is high and if I can get 12-15 with my IFly 737NG that is high. I am running a AMD FX 4100 Quad Core Processor 8Gb of Ram Gigabyte 970a-D3P Motherboard Nvidia GeForce GTX 750Ti video card with 2 Gb memory I have been told that the Nvidia is not the best match for the AMD processor so if anyone can provide some suggestions as to what may be a good upgrade or what I might do to improve my FSX performance I would appreciate any and all suggestions. Thank yo…

  12. I have a 6 monitor setup, which is mainly for trading options on equities and indexes as a trader. When I run FSX-SE, I only use 1 monitor because every time I try and undock a window and move it to another monitor, FSX crashes and stops working. I have looked through some of the posts, but maybe someone can point me to a step by step or post that contains info as to how to accomplish multiple monitors in FSX-SE. I have Windows 10, i7 4 GHZ, 32 GB RAM, GTX 750Ti cards supporting 6 monitors, 4 are 27 inch Viewsonics and 2 are 24 inch ASUS. I really just want to be able to use the 4 Viewsonic monitors for the simulation. It is a shame to only use 1 monitor when I have …

  13. Hello, A bit of an odd question... Is it possible for hardware today to produce round 3D object without the use of polygons or triangles? I read somewhere the calculations needed to produce a rounded 3D object would be unlimited. Thank you for answering to my curiosity.

Hi all. I am thinking of upgrading my Dell 23" monitor for this one http://www.msy.com.au/nsw/ultimo/peripherals/17852-philips-amva-32-bdm3270qp2-4ms-2560x14402k-qhd-hdmi-mhl-dp-dvi-d-sub-usb-spk-has-pivot-monitor.html It is 32" a AMVA LCD at a resolution of 2560 x 1440. The aspect ratio is 16 x 9. It is 1080p at 60 mhz. My system is an i7 2700K with a GTX 970. Would this be suitable for Prepar 3D? I was wondering mainly about the resolution. Many thanks for any replies. John

Hi All Well it looks like my graphics card has died 😩 All was fine earlier tonight, mid flight on fsx my system completely froze (sound as well) with a white screen and wouldn't reboot beyond the starting windows 7 screen, it just hung on a black screen. Unplugged my GTX 670 and it booted fine. So it would seem the card has given up and I will need a new one. For now I don't plan on upgrading other components so a top of the range nvidia card is probably not worth the outlay. I am running an i5 3570k overclocked to 4.2ghz and 8gb of RAM. Any suggestions on a reasonably priced nvidia card for this system??

Greetings, I read with great interest the topic 'Dell Ultrasharp U3514W 34" Curved Monitor' on this forum. I have been a FSX 3-monitor NV surround user with 3x21 Asus monitors and a Jetline i7, GTX680 for three years. While the expanded field of view is immersive and enjoyable, the blasted bezel issue that never goes away is a constant nuisance. I get tired of setting VC's considerably off center to avoid two 1/2 inch bezels splitting thru a G1000 screen. Moreover, I feel other respected add-ons like Track-IR and EZDOK become more difficult to set-up with the three monitors. I have to admit the reviews and comments from the aforementioned topic are quite tempting…

In a distant future I might get my newly built rig to actually post and not simply refuse to do anything when turning the power on. In anticipation of that moment I started thinking of upgrading my two 27" inch monitors to something more grand and have my eyes on the LG 43" 4K (43UH650V). But now I am also considering some 34" ultrawide monitor and wonder if anyone have an opinion on which would give the best feeling of "beeing there". I also fly IRL and can't imagine flying without TrackIR.

Hello All, Several years ago I built a new system with the state of the art GTX 680 (as it was then) with 2GB of video RAM. Would an upgrade to a GTX 1060/1070/1080 with 5GB /6GB make a difference with FSX and high end add ons such as the PMDG B747-400 Queen of the Skies !!. That is would the extra RAM make a difference?

I am looking at replacing my old Dell 24" monitor after many years, for a 27" of some type and description. Looking at the many many types and pedigrees out there, I need to get down to must haves and nice to have qualities etc. At present, I use FSX. One day if P3D get their act together and their "64 bit" version comes out, I will take the plunge and swap over AND upgrade my FS machine to a new video card and see if to keep or replace my old 2600K intel...Anyway that is another story in another thread... So, does a FSX/P3D 27" screen need to be designed for gaming, less than 2ms lag etc, Is the 60Hz ok, What is the best cable connector for it. Are screens like…

Hi, I was recently flying in some very heavy weather generated by AS16 (networked from a client PC), and my rig had to stop and take a breather every 15-20 seconds or so for about 5secs or more, even though my FPS was registering about 35fps! (very disconcerting on approach). I have just upgraded my nav gauge GTN 750 to version 6.21 I had two up and running in my Real Air Duke V2, but I don't think it was responsible (but I could be wrong). My client PC is using a GeForce GT 620 and the server PC (running FSX:SE) has a GeForce GTX 650, neither has any system video memory. I am thinking of splashing the cash on a GTX 1050, and I assume it will need to be fit…
