  1. I have an EVGA GTX 580 Classified Ultra 3 Gb. card with a single fan. The fan has stopped working. It is free to rotate without power. I have tried getting it to spin with power on with no success. Is there any easy way to determine if it is the fan and not the fan controller. I have the Precision X software and set it to 100% but the fan will not spin even at high temperatures. Does anyone know the fan size? I have seen 65 mm and 80 mm. Would it be better to replace the fan or to get a replacement fan type.cooler? If anyone has a recommendation for a fan type cooler I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks, Bob.

I’ll start by stating that I am not particularly IT savvy, thus my questions. I have a couple of questions about the use of GPS bezels such as the one advertised here (as an example): https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Flight-Simulator-Garmin-530-Bezel-with-control-Switch-and-PCB/263824201895?_trkparms=aid%3D444000%26algo%3DSOI.DEFAULT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20170221122447%26meid%3Df2f71a5e4e7b40b9ae8b765ceb99cb01%26pid%3D100752%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D263824242396%26itm%3D263824201895&_trksid=p2047675.c100752.m1982 Specifically, I would like to know: 1. 3. Hi, Although not that old, I have replaced my GTX1080 with an EVGA RTX 2080Ti. I first thought of upgrading the system to an i9 platform but it was too pricey so I've decided to replace the GPU instead. What a wise decision! I've upgraded GPU's for around 25 years since the first FS, generally once every 2 generations of chips. It's every time an improvement for sure, compared with the previous one. But I don't remember such a gap in performances and such a good surprise after upgrading. I can finally see P3D V4 in all its glory with dynamic reflection at High, shadows quality at High, full autogen, with 8MSAA, Ultra texture resolution @4096x4096 etc..…

  4. I'm in the market for a UHD display as an upgrade from my Sony 32" 1920*1080 TV. Don't look at my specs below - a new PC is about to be purchased. I've called it a display rather than a TV or a monitor as I'm weighing up the pros and cons of each. But space (or lack of it) is going to be the deciding factor I'm afraid. We all know that for a given distance a larger display will have a greater immersion factor than a smaller one. So go as big as you can afford or have the space for them! Well yes, you could but there's a catch. Take two UHD displays - one is a 40" TV and the other is a 32" monitor. You might think that at the same distance - say 1 metre - th…

I attempted moving the UI file into the FSX folder with no change to game. I loaded Direct X 9 onto my system no result, Ran DiagDx which didn't show anything helpful other than operating with Direct X12. I am able to get out of black screen by cycling through the Monitor button which creates a black square with no indicatio…

  7. Hi all, I currently have 2 cheap-ish TN 24" LCD displays for my P3D setup. I'd like to move to 4K and possibly take advantage of chaseplane to move around the virtual cockpit... something I'm not able to do with multiple monitors. The giant LG 43" 4K IPS screen caught my eye the other day and is currently on sale. It is 60hz. The reviews are positive for productivity and some 'shoot em up' games but nothing on the 'net from P3D or Xplane users. Anyone have one of these out there? How is the performance and is it just too big? I know some of you guys use 55" or even 65" 4k TVs so perhaps nothing is too big! Thanks! Dan

If you own a 1080TI and run 4K then this does not affect your upgrade plans. For those of us with a 980TI or less running 4K then that may be a different question. I was just looking at a couple of benchmarks for 980TI VS 2080 cards doing 4K gaming. The bottom line was the 2080 over all games tested show that the frames rates double between the two. Now yes I know that P3D is different and there is more to the story than frame rates. Looking at the cost of upgrading to a 1080TI (new) is about the same as a RTX2080 and all indications are that the 2080 is slightly faster than the 1080TI I am not sure why it is dismissed out of hand. Using my own situation with the 980TI ru…

  9. Hello chaps, Looking for a spot of advice here, and I know there is some good knowledge around here. Bascially I am running P3D v4 in 4K with my 980ti (other specs: 6700K @ 4.5GHz, 16GB DDR4 @ 3000MHz). Performance is usually okay, but what really seems to get me hammered is any sort of heavy cloudy conditions somewhere a little bit taxing (FT YSSY for example). I do turn cloud draw distance down tith ActiveSky to about 80, shadows down, cloud layers to 1 (yes, 1!) but overall it doesn't seem to help that much. Only use MSAA. Basically, I think the weakest part of the system for 4K at the moment is the graphics card, so my choices are: 1) Get anoth…

Hi, I'm about to buy a new monitor after A LOT of years, I have an old 21" Philips one. I came across this one: 42.5" Viewsonic VX4380-4K It's huge, 4K, IPS, 60 Hz and so on. And it costs like $600. Isn't the price strangely low? Does anyone have this monitor? Is it worth it? Thanks 🙂

Hi, I just updated from my GTX980 to a Asus GTX1080Ti OC but since the upgrade I only get problems with P3D. I didn't change any settings but I keep getting the DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG error. In addition to that I get terrible FPS at any airport, less than what I had with the GTX980. My specs are: i7 4790k at 4.7ghz GTX1080Ti OC 16 Gb RAM 2133mhz Any ideas what the problem might be? Cheers Alex

  13. Hi, I currently have a dell 34 ultrawide and have been thinking of adding another or perhaps 2 smaller monitors to extend the vc view. can anyone be able to provide with a recommendation on which option would be best? I currently have a i7-7700k oc to 5ghz with a nvidia 1070 card and I'm running P3d v4. I assume I'll eventually upgrade to a Nvidia 2080 card if that helps. Thanks Bill

  14. as part of the move to P3D I have upcoming, it appears that to "get the most out of the sim", I will need a faster GPU. Forum surfing has me zeroed in on the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 Gaming. Apparently, people buying these and similar cards in bulk for mining cryptocurrency has driven their market price into chaos. eBay is full of used ones that were used for mining at $600 or less - a price I can't touch on a new one. I've never bought a used computer component. Is this worth it ? Cheers, Jeff

Hello everyone, just wanted to give some quick feedback on my experience from a GTX970 to a RTX2080. Quick disclaimer... I had an issue with my RTX2080 where Nvidia surround was NOT working, so I was unable to test with my standard setup which consists of (3) 24" dell ultrasharps. So I tested with only one @ a resolution of 1920x1200. I have since sent the video card back for an exchange so I cannot do any additional testing until the replacement arrives. But I would like to share 2 saved flights that I tested. Lets get right to it shall we.... So the first flight was over Anacortes, WA with fairly high settings, shadows, traffic, ORBX scenery and a setting…

I knew this was coming and it appears Samsung has delivered a "consumer" viable 8K TV/monitor … however, before you drop you're $6,500 on a 65" 8K version (Europe only) and more $$$ on the 85" 8K US version (apparently that's the only size available for US market) … it's HDMI 2.0 (so limited to 8K 30Hz) based?? They didn't opt to use HDMI 2.1 that I thought was already ratified/certified? But on the plus side the Q900 does include some HDMI 2.1 specs such as support for Variable Refresh Rates (a must have for simmers/gamers). So line up and start making those pre-orders 🙂 Don't toss out your 4K monitors just yet, I'd recommend waiting for the HDMI 2.1 8K monito…

  17. https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/intel-nvidia-pre-ordering-bad/ Biased benchmarks are nothing new, but that doesn’t make them any less misleading. The last couple of months have been exciting times for those looking to upgrade their PCs. SSD prices have continued to fall and both Nvidia and Intel have showcased new hardware that is more powerful than anything they’ve ever released before, especially when it comes to games. But in both the debut of the Turing-powered RTX 2000 graphics cards from Nvidia and the reveal of Intel’s 9000-series CPUs, we’ve been fed benchmark information that exaggerates the advantages of the new hardware. Just over a month…

Hi, I've been playing around with a few things since I've encountered blurrie issues GSXL2. One thing I have noticed is that I only use about 25-30% of my VRAM. Are there any settings I can change/add in the cfg to shift some of the load from the CPU to the GPU? I'm using a pretty vanilla cfg right now. I know it is a CPU intensive program, but I have also seen many reports of people using around 50% making me think something is up. Perhaps my CPU can't push enough to the GPU, but I'm not really sure what I should be expecting. The GSX issue is very slow loading textures and blurries. BTW, I am running HT and I have tried AM of 84 and 253 to see if it made …

Hi fellas, I made the mistake of looking at a friend's rig with a curved 34-inch (what I assume was 4k) monitor the other day, now daddy want one. What I'm wondering is, what resolution can I run reasonably. I currently have a 27-inch 1080p, and I can pretty much max everything out and it runs wonderfully. Am I asking too much of my rig if I upgraded to 4k? I mostly fly GA piston singles, so I'm not asking for LAX in a 787 with 100% traffic, etc. And frankly, if a 1080p or 1440 curved 34-inch is a better choice, I'm fine with that. I just want the extra real estate on the screen and a good experience. I'd very much appreciate any thoughts!

  23. So I ended up ordering a 2080ti. Not necessarily the one I wanted, but the one I was fast enough to get before the zillions of people competing with me for the card managed to hit the buy button. I sat and watched for days, refreshing the screen, leaping to my computer every time NowInStock hit me with an availability alert, and again and again, anything over 45 seconds meant somebody beat me to it!! 😢 Finally I "won" and I have a card pre ordered. (At like 4am in the morning, after my nowinstock alert, which I had at full volume, woke up everyone within 5 miles) Did everyone go through this? Did you get exactly the card you wanted, or only what was av…
