Hi, I'd like some advice over choosing a new 24 inch moniitor. I am about to buy a new coffee lake computer, principally for flightsim via an Oculus Rift, but I'm also interested in photography and do some photoshopping. I intend to have a two monitor desktop, so I wouldn't want to make a bad choice of two monitors! I'd also like good value! 😉 Thank you for any suggestions. Jim

  2. I'm looking at the Samsung 49" 32:9 monitor for using on my cockpit setup for FSX and was hoping to get some advice here. I'm currently using two AL2216W Acer monitors. I hate the bezel in the middle and like the idea of having one continuous curved screen across the front. I have a roof from the interior of an SUV that I picked up at a junk yard that appears to have the same or similar radius that this monitor has. I'm wondering how the picture quality will fare with this new unit compared to what I have. I'm also wondering how the screen will fill up using FSX. Would there be black areas on the ends? Would the picture be stretched? Existing monitor sp…

My PC is a i7 6700K @ 4.9 Ghz with a GTX1070 video card. Is this good enough to run P3Dv4 on a 4K TV/Monitor? My previous monitor was an ultra wide screen 3440 x 1440 and that was fine, will a 1070 stretch to 4K resolution or is that pushing it a bit too far?

Hi all I am considering upgrading my GTX970 to a GTX1060 https://www.arc.com.au/product/59591 I of course would prefer to go to a GTX1070, but at the moment they are too expensive. My question, would I see much benefit in going to a 1060 from a 970? I might be interested in going down the VR route, but not in the immediate future. Thanks for any answers. John

  8. Hello A small tip for anybody wondering (Like Me) Why your GTX Graphics card is over heating when Idle just surfing the Web. I have a 980ti and noticed with EVEGA Precision opened my Temps were heating to 75 C just browsing the web really. Initially I couldn't figure out why my card was getting so hot, It should Idle at 39 C with no fans running at all. It turns out I had "Preferred Maximum Performance" turned on in the NVidia Control Panel (Gaming Mode) This was set in Global Settings and not to an Individual Program, Meaning my card was always running on Maximum Power (Maximum heat) I turned this back to the default "Optimal Power" and re…

I am about to purchase a 4K TV for P3D, likely in the 49 to 50 inch range. My computer is an 8700K with 1080Ti video card. I have two questions that I need some advice on. 1) On every TV I look at, I cannot find any reference to it being able to run 30 Hz. They all say 60 or even 120 but nothing about 30. Can I just assume that it has this mode but its not listed in the spec document? 2) What is the recommended lag time in ms ? i see TV's from 1ms all the way up to 9ms and have no idea if this makes a difference for Flight Sim use.

  10. With FS2004 I have smooth taxi and runway lines. The aircraft look good as well. With FSX the taxi lines have a "barber pole" effect as I move around. When my view is perpendicular to a taxi line the line breaks apart completely. The default aircraft look nice and smooth in exterior view. Payware aircraft in exterior view have the "barber pole" effect on their paint and panel lines. I've tried all sorts of AA settings and scoured the forums trying to figure out why this is happening. I can't find a setting that smooths out the taxi lines and the textures on the payware aircraft. I've tried settings using Nvidia Inspector and I've tried using just the Nvidia Cont…

  11. Hi, I have a decent system, 1 yr old Alienware Aurora, I dont have the specs in front of me but had it designed for flight sim. it runs nothing else. I have 3 monitors running, & all seems good but I cant get over seeing screen shots on Steam pages for FSX-SE with users with very crisp clear images. I'm starting to think the three monitors running decreases the clarity of the program, any advice? Thanks much.

  12. I'm still reeling from the last phone call I was on so I will keep this short. I Sent my LG 34'' 21:9 Curved display in for Service March 14th. I have been promised a 10 day turnaround. I have called and called, first they said they needed a part. Then they told me the tech hasn't worked on it yet. A full month later and now I got to the bottom of after telling them to cut the crap. Well, you could see it coming, LG LOST IT. They shipped it to someone not even in my State and its now gone. After raising hell I now have $1500ish to spend on a new display. What should I get? https://www.pcmag.com/review/349921/lg-38uc99-w Or https://www.pcmag.…

  14. I'm currently running a 4790K with two 980s in SLI with 3 1080p (27 inch) monitors. One of my monitors is crapping out and I've been thinking of getting 3 1440p monitors and switch to a single 1080ti card. What are thoughts on this switch? Will the 1080ti be able to push those 3 1440p for decent frames or am I going to go backwards in fps. Anybody have a system setup with 3 1440p monitors and happy with their fps? The monitors I'm looking at are ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278QR 27" 2560x1440 1ms 165Hz G-SYNC Regards, Norm.

Hopefully im not breaking any Avsim rule by posting this thread twice in different subforums. Hi there, i have a simpit that consists of 3 monitors in surround mode with a 5040x1050 resol that counts as one display and 4 other accesory monitors for 2d panels. In total 1 surround display+4 All 7 monitors are connected to 2 Nvidia cards (3+4) With fsx ive had to switch off one of the 4 accesory due to FSX not starting with 5 displays, only with 4 ( 1 surround + 3 accesory) I let it be knowing that in p3dv4 there is no limit and i can have as many monitors as my 2 NVIDIA graphic cards support but selfish developers are not thinking about 2d panel …

  17. I'm not particularly tech savvy, so I'll apologize in advance if this is a dumb question. I currently have two, 24" ASUS 1080p monitors, both rated at 1ms. I have an opportunity to add a third 24" ASUS unit, which is rated at 2ms. My questions are whether mixing the two different performance ratings will cause any problems, experience and ease of set-up and use assuming I'm operating FSX SE or Prepar3d (4,x)? My use is primarily GA and corporate flying, with ORBX and REX, Thanks folks, Brian

Hi all- My TitanBlack after many years of good service is now...out of service :>( Off to VC heaven I guess, or wherever they go. I'm looking for a replacement and have done a cursory search of the 1080ti. Those that are available are pretty expensive. My Titan was less and could handle pretty much everything I could throw at it. Anyway, if you have any suggestions or experiences you'd like to share regarding your card, please do. Thanks! Mark

Hello, I've been dealing with a strange issue lately. My GTX 1080 Ti doesn't put its performance out when playing P3D v4.2. See attached picture. https://imgur.com/a/omYwX It doesn't even use boosted core clock and usage is around 30 %. My fps are fine in flight (36 on the screen), but it was kind of struggling at OMDB. Also Chrome is lagging (Facebook refreshing and so on). I remember that in the past the card was being used a lot more, temperatures were up as well, fans roaring. Now it's quiet. What could be the issue? I've got the card selected in P3D settings and I think that I have the latest drivers through Nvidia Experience. Thanks in …

  22. I have relocated this post to the "HARDWARE CONTROLLERS, JOYSTICKS, ...." forum. (I don't know how to delete this original post) Sorry for the confusion. I have a "Desktop Aviator model 2450B" gps unit (with the vga screen) that I'm contemplating including in a new cockpit build. I haven't installed the unit before, and have a few questions, should anyone here be familiar with these units: (1) Sim compatibility: I understand they are compatible with FSX. I would like to know if they work with FSX Steam and/or Prepar3d? (2) Reliability: Before I make up a place for it in the cockpit, I'd like to know whether these units r…

I've been doing a lot of reading about what the best video card setup for P3Dv4 is. At this point I'm totally confused, and don't really know what I should do. Nobody seems to agree on anything. There's a lot of talk about the 2000 series cards from Nvidia, but I've seen nothing official about a release, only speculation. You can't even get a 1080ti from Nvidia because they're always out of stock. I'm having a new flight simulator computer built in June, but I still don't know what to do about a video card setup. Is a 1080ti SLI the best way to go, or is a Titan better, or maybe something else? I don't mind spending the bucks, if I can get a lot of horsepower. I'd apprec…

I have a GTX-580 Classified Ultra video card. The cooling fan has quit. My temps go up to well over 65 Deg. C. The fan is supposed to come on but it does not. I have used an air can and it is free to turn. I don't know if it is the fan motor or the driver. I see the fan can be removed and replaced. The fan motor is on E-Bay for about $25 plus shipping. Would it be worth trying to repair it or get a new GTX-1050 4 Gb card at $270. Has anyone used the GTX-1050 4 Gb card on FSX. If so how does it work. Thanks, Bob.

Looks like several folks have spotted in-driver device references to nVidia's Volta based GPUs (GV104) for the "consumer market", no HBM2 (900GB/s) but will have DDR6 (768 GB/s). Much higher GPU frequency than the Volta Titan V. Pricing speculated at 2070 ??, 2080 $699, and 2080Ti $799. No delays so release is expected no later than March. As far as performance with drivers aimed at gaming, 132% increase over Pascal (DX and Vulkan). Seems like good times ahead for lighting (PBR, Dynamic Lights) and VR in your simulator platform or platforms of choice. Cheers, Rob.
