I recently had an issue with my HDTV and that 30fps just did not look like 30fps. Turns out I was dead on because turning on vsync and triple buffering with my GTX 680 completely fixed the issue. However, I now have a new problem with really sparsely populated airports where fps are always great, I do get great fps but also extreme stutters. This is probably due to my frames jumping around rapidly from 50-115fps. Setting a fps limiter works but I don't wanna have to keep switching between a limiter and no limiter when flying o different levels of density. Any ideas?

Hi All, I'm considering getting a new graphics card, as mine is now over a year old and not quite up to scratch compared to the rest of my rig. I'm looking to spend £150-£200 ish but budget is slightly flexible. Currently got an ATI Sapphire HD 6790 1GB card. I'm flying the NGX mostly and using lots of addon scenery, would like to get about 30FPS at all times but often this slips - The rest of my rig is somewhat quick so my reckoning is it's time for the new card! I'd like to stick with ATI, but could be convinced to go Nvidia if someone has a compelling reason for doing so... Many thanks, James

Here's the thing. I had FSX running great with FTX Global, REX, AS2012, PMDG 737/md-11. Then my mobo was damaged while outside the case. Got a new one (Same one) Installed it all in the case. Did a new win 7 install. Did a new FSX install. And i just cannot get more then 15fps stable... With higher settings it even goes down to 3/4 ish. It always ran smooth. Hi guys. I just recently updated my nvidia driver to 331.65. I notice that I can still see tear now when panning around cockpit. My nvidia inspector still the same setting which is 1/2 refresh rate. Any ideas? I did however changed 8XSq to 8XS and 2SSGD to 4X Super sampling. I am trying everything again to get the best performance out of FSX. Here's my spec for what it's worth. Please feel free to suggest FSX setting and tweaks. 6. Could use some suggestions as to the best 3D settings to use with my GTX 650 card while running Fs2004 on a Win7 64-bit system...Is the saved pofile for FS2004 on nVidia Inspector the best or does it need to be modified further? Also, I've been told I should re-intall the runtimes for Directx9. Do I have to remove Directx 11 first then replace it with Directx 9 or just run a Directx9 install to re-install the runtimes? I'm looking to resolve some issues with FS2004 since migrating my XP FS2004 backup to my new Win7 64 bit system (detailed in a post on the FS9 forum)...

  7. I have been flying for hours. Changing planes in mid air. Windowed to fullscreen and back. 4xSSAA and 8xSSAA tests. Jumping to airports and changing planes and exiting and coming back into the sim. CTRL+C to fast exit. End Flight and exit. It all works. No fatal errors. So far no problems. And with BP=0 I seem to be locked at 30 at ORBX KSFF in the Duke v 2.0 I am impressed. They said they would fix and they did. Good one AMD. Nice indeed. Now I can get the boost in my other games and enjoy FSX as well. Remember... Full uninstall current driver with Catalyst Install Manager and reboot before installing the new driver. Charles.

  8. Thought everyone might be interested in this news! Nvidia has announced the price of its new graphics card, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 Ti, will be $699 when it hits shops on 7 November. The new card - the specs of which still haven't been revealed - will come in above the GTX 780 so accordingly that card will be getting a price cut, dropping from $649 to $499. Likewise the GTX 770 will drop from $399 to $329. http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2013/10/28/nvidia-geforce-gtx-780-ti-price-and-release/1 B. P.S. Well looks like I was right and wrong. GTX780 Ti is higher priced, but GTX 780 (regular version) gets a nice price cut. Glad I did …

  10. Hey everyone, The point of this thread is to advise everyone that the landscape of the current video cards and pricing has started to change dramatically for the better for both ATI and nVidia fans alike! AMD has released a series of new cards and the latest is the R9 290X. It is averagely faster than a GTX780 and in some cases matches the Titan. This is of course dependant on game, resolution tested, website tested at (do they lean one brand or the other) and so on. But still, it is averagely faster than the GTX780 no matter where you look. SUMMARY: 18% faster for $100 cheaper. But!!! a bit louder and hotter than the GTX780 by all accounts. Not so much in qui…

Hi guys, I have been doing some long haul flights to test my VAS usage. Used Process explorer to monitor VAS during several flights. During those flight my VAS steadily goes up by about 100Mb per hour. (even if I do a holding at the same spot over default FSX scenery, VAS goes up from 2.5G. to 3.5Gb in 10hrs) I dont like what I am seeing (VAS creeping up) yet I believe this behavior is normal. (Word Not Allowed posted it is normal for VAS to keep rising as well) Just how much VAS increases during a flight depends on how many and what addons you are using. Recently someone commented to me that the size of GPU memory has an influence on VAS as it is "sha…

  13. I recently tried the 13.11 Beta 8 driver. While it ROCKS allot of other titles, it causes an issue with FSX in DX9 mode. Basically in DX9 mode, FSX will CTD (Crash to Desktop) as you use the menus. Current best driver for FSX DX9 mode is 13.4. Good news is that they know and it has been passed on to the driver team. Below is a response to one of my posts on their driver forum from one of the moderators. Marc@AMD has posted a message entitled Catalyst 13.11 Beta 8 still crashing in FSX. Fatal Error.. The following message was posted on: Friday November 01, 2013 09:27:35 AM One of my colleagues manages the Issue Reporting Forms. He was able to reproduce the iss…

Hi Guys, I finally got my fully enclosed Cessna 152 flight simulator up and running. Everything looks great on my 42" Sharp Aquos, but I'm looking for the best settings for FSX... Could you guys tell me or point me in the right direction for settings? All this motion enhancement, film mode and color setting stuff have my old head spinning! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Sam

  15. Hello, I am in a desperate attempt to build a new PC before the PMDG 777 comes out and before certain VATSIM events. The main question is if for my graphics card I should use the NVIDIA GTX 660 or the Gigabyte Radeon HD 7870. The 7870 appears to be a better card overall however I have heard posts about the AMD's/Gigabytes not working well with FSX. I have also heard that NVIDIA might be more compatible with certain crucial modules of FSX. The processor I plan to pair this with an I7 3770K. Thank You

Hello Ladies and Gentleman After much deliberation (and a good discount), I bought XDisplay to use with FSX. The problem I'm having is, as soon I move any panel (even the default Cessna GPS) to the IPad my FPS drops to 1. I close the panel, the FPS return to normal. Does any have successfully used XDisplay with FSX? Note; I'm aware of the bug with NVidia cards, and I successfully applied the workaround. The thing is if I use this method, the lag is too much. I've seen a video on YouTube of a Guy using with almost any lag. Thanks for any help I can get. Regards,

So here we go again. GTX 780 will be needing another trim on the pricing. The $399 R9 290 should be hitting the shelves some time this month and is roughly the same performance as the GTX780 which is selling for $519 now (reduced from $649 when the R9 290X arrived last week LOL). I predict $449 for GTX780 by December if not sooner. Depends when AMD Board Partners start announcing SKU's for Christmas Season. AMD is waiting to see what the GTX 780Ti comes out like. Faster than R9 290X is almost guaranteed. But it better not be $700. Not worth that. Should be launched at $649. But that is still way beyond my budget for gaming. $399 for GTX780 performance is bang …

  18. Hi all I just saw on Windows Update that there's a new update for my NVIDIA drivers. Now, I don't really trust Windows Update with my drivers and stuff, so how should I install the new NVIDIA drivers from now on, since NVIDIA no longer lets you update from the NVIDIA Control Panel? (You used to be able to update straight from the NCP, but now, the idiots at NVIDIA removed this function and force you to download some "GeForce Experience" crap that I DO NOT want on my computer in order to update your drivers.)

I have a pretty nice system 2600k 4.8ghz and a GTX680. I get really high frames but for some reason, FSX just does't seem smooth. I have used the "tweaking tool' that everyone uses on they're CFGs and get very good frames but my eye sees some stutters. I was thinking maybe my memory but I feel like I have good memory at DDR3 1600Mhz using 9-9-9-24. I feel if I was using a computer monitor instead of an HDTV maybe the intangible "smoothness" would be better. The only time I see true smothness is when I'm at Midway Island and I get 200-ish FPS. Yeah, I know that's a lot of FPS!

For my home cockpit , based on the Ifly 737 NGX , I wanted to see if I could use an SLI setup to get better fps. 23. Hello avsim community! So my question is, can I connect my Lenovo Y500 (specs on profile) to 2/3 monitors. I put the slash because it depends on what I can do. If 3 monitors that's great, if not then 2 monitors. I mainly want it for 3 Monitor FSX flying. The thing is I only have an HDMI, VGA, and 2 3.0 USB ports. If possible, no more than $100. I know about triplehead2go but its pricey. If I could somehow work with out it GREAT if not, that's life and I will buy it (if it works). Thanks in advance and hope to hear some answers!

  24. I am having fps of 10-14 whenever there is heavy cloud in weather. My GPU is single GTX660Ti running 6026X1080 in 3 monitor nvidia surround. So I would like to check if anyone here use the GTX690 or GTX780(single) for surround 3 monitor setup? Putting the cost aside, will GTX780 better than GTX690 in surround mode?

  25. Just upgraded from GTX 580 to GTX 780. Both tested with same cfg settings ( using Word Not Allowed's tweaks ) and same in-game graphics settings with every slider maxed out except for water. Running at stock Intel Core i7 3930K @ 3.2 Ghz with Hyperthreading on.
