Hi all, Has anyone noticed that the maximum cpu temperatures when running P3D are much higher than any other gaming /process and even cpu stress testers?? I have a 10700k overclocked to 4.9ghz and I can easily hit a maximum temperature of mid 80s, this is with an AIO liquid cooler (NZXT Kraken). Thoughts?

Hello, Building new sim PC. Starting from scratch, since old hardware is pretty old at this point. Just wanted to get a 2nd opinion on the planned parts. Current gen NVIDIA GPU prices are just insane here in India, so I can either get a new 7900xtx or a open box 3090 in my budget. Another thing I wanted to confirm is does RAM speed really matter for MSFS ? 6000MHz kits are fairly reasonably priced, beyond that prices increase exponentially. Will this build be good for VR as wel? I don't have a VR headset yet, but definitely want to get one if it can run on this hardware. CPU - AMD Ryzen 7800x3d GPU - AMD 7900 XTX / RTX 3090 MoBo - Gigabyte Aorus U…

  3. This month I upgraded from a 10900K @ 5.2, 4090FE and 32gb DDR4 4000 running Windows 10 Pro to my current build running Windows 11 Pro, see specs below. The problem I have is when I’m a few miles out from large airports, I am getting pauses like something is loading for a few seconds. I can be at 100+ FPS on a 3-mile final and hit a 2 sec pause, FPS will drop to like 50 and then it resumes like nothing happened. The airports range from KMDW by DD, KATL by Asobo or KDFW by Asobo just to name a few. When I ran my 10900K/4090 combo I had smooth approaches into these airports. My FPS ranged from 75-100+ with frame generation on and DX12/TAA. I was even able to …

  4. Was considering upgrading either my rtx 3070 to a 40 series, or my 10700k to 13700k. After reading countless posts here at Avsim and some further research I finally decided on the AMD 7800x3d, Gigabyte b670 Mb, and Corsair 5600 Vram. Results are as follows: It was the correct choice. Previously fps ranged from 47 to 52 fps on 1440p mostly high settings with Kodiak Amphibian and AirManager in use on two monitors. 'Mostly' meaning my Terrain Lod was only at 70! (Note: 71 fps if AirManager wasn't enabled and flying a 172). Now running 4k dlss performance (upscaling from 1080p) almost everything at ultra (had to reduce textures to high to prevent exceeding avai…

I have a Masters in EE, a long time ago but I don’t think volts and amps have changed much… I can not figure out how to properly size a backup battery / UPS. My PC with an Nvidia 4080 and a 850 watt PSU is plugged into my CyberPower 1000VA UPS. The only other things plugged into that UPS are a printer which is mostly hibernating, and a network external drive that is almost never accessed especially when flying. I would think 1000VA would be sufficient (although the battery also says 530 watts which doesn’t compute to 1000VA), but I keep getting a warning tone. How do you size a Backup battery / UPS or do you just not use one. Thanks!

  6. Yesterday, at Las Vegas using high end animated mod in daytime, computer crashed then rebooted (frame rate about 40). Today, tested it again same area but at night, frame rate dropped to 25. Checked drive with system managed page file (nvme) and it has over 800MB available. Out of curiosity I set another system managed page file on my large nvme drive that has msfs on it. In game frame rate now exceeds 60fps (using vsync locked to 60 fps Tobi micro-stutters without it). This system has 32GB of 5600 RAM but the pagefile seems to be very necessary whether it is used or not. Thermaltake level 2gt, Gigabyte b670, 7800x3d, Noctua D15, 1GB and 4GB Nvme M.2, TCL 65in, LG 32…

This is a story of sadness, desperation and eventual salvation---the best kind of story. Yesterday I awoke with the burning desire to fly the Comanche and F28. It was imperative that this happen. But, MSFS was suddenly running terrible: I was seeing 9 FPS no matter what aircraft or location. I tried all the things---rolling back to previous drivers, clearing caches and so on. I spent most of the day trying everything I could. No difference and no improvements. I tested with another title (Aliens: Dark Decent) and it too was a lagging pile. Hum. A clue. So, after a good nights sleep I awoke with the idea to check Precision X1 (the EVGA software that 'helps' with …

  9. Several years ago I purchased a rather nice second-hand computer. This one I did not build, put together, or install (system specs are below). Somehow the boot manager became corrupted, and I cannot fix the error. I can go into further details when needed, but it seems that one of--if not the main--issue is a lost RAID 0 configuration. The original drives were C, D, and E. D and E drives are 500GB HDDs, while C was two 250GB SSDs in a RAID 0 configuration. Earlier this year I added a Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2, using a Sabrent NVMe M.2 SSD to PCIe X16/X8/X4 card with an aluminum heat sink to the PCIe X16-2, which became drive F. When I try and repair the …

I just purchased a new game computer w/ i7 12th generation processor, 32GB Ram, RTX 3060 12GB. Reinstalling MSFS 2020, checking FPS it seems to be locked at 20 FPS. But there are other numbers, GPU seems to peak at 30% usage. MSFS ran on my old I5 6800 Nvidia 8GB 32GB at 25-35 FPS. I am not sure how to interpret what is going on. I don’t have any stuttering, but was expecting to have much higher FPS. Any ideas? Thanks!

  14. I'm planning to upgrade if my current CPU continues to falter. My Phanteks case I see has space for 3 fans up top (there are two 120mm fans currently installed) so I'm guessing that is where an AIO cooler should go. What should I expect in terms of temps at load in MSFS with a 13900K cooled with a good cooler? Would I need to do any custom overclocking, or just rely on turbo modes or what have you? If my 9900K holds out til Raptor Lake Refresh arrives I would go there very likely. AMD is still an option but just unfamiliar with them personally. Cheers

  15. I'm looking for a mobo that will allow me to have two m.2 NVMe drives, both with an OS installed, such that I can toggle either on or off in the BIOS. I mainly want to keep the 2nd drive installed as an identical clone of other drive, and weird stuff happens when you have them both active. Thanks

  16. My CPU temp has rather suddenly increased by about 15-20% and this does not have too much to do w/ the summertime we're in here. The temperature is not considered high, there is no throttling and well shouldn't be, but still, about 15-20% higher than previous. I've checked fan speeds, case and component cleanliness etc, and all looks great. I 'm down to wondering if, despite 3y of predicable stable temps, this sudden change might have to do w/ the thermal paste I used back when I assembled the parts. It would be especially useful if you did this for similar reasons, replaced the thermal paste, and how it turned out. Thanks in advance!

  17. So, I have just replaced my previous CPU (7600X) with the 7800X3D. Before switching the chips, I have made some screenshots showcasing similar scenarios on all simulators I have installed. The scenario is simple: Flight-Deck and Spot pictures of high-end Airbuses (Fenix, Toliss and FSLabs) at EGLL on RW09R with live AI traffic (PSXT + RT with about 70 aircraft), at 12:00 with clouded skies. All sims are configured with high/very-high settings and the only thing that changed significantly between the tests was the CPU. Here are the results, initially with the 7600X and then with the 7800X3D: 7600X + RTX 4090: MSFS (latest official version) …

Hi guys! I'm so excited, I find myself in a position where I have a budget of £4000 for a new shiny PC. I've been rocking an i74790k, 16GB and 1070 for years now, it's time to part ways. I'm looking at an i9 13900k, 4090, 32GB RAM, NVME drive combo. After drooling over all the frame generation vids on YouTube I want to be in Flight sim heaven of more FPS than I ever need flying into London, New York with all the trimmings up full. I will be buying a 4k monitor as well just for completeness. It would be amazing if this combo gave me glorious FPS using the Fenix A320 which I consider to be the most demanding aircraft (on performance) to fly in the sim. Wo…

I’m looking for recommendations for a mid size case that can accommodate a 4090. Full size is not possible because of space constraints. Preferred make is Fractal Design but others will be considered. I should also add I’m not interested in flashing LEDs or other lighting features. Please include the make of your GPU since the length varies.

Hello all! Man it's been AGES since I last came here and posted. I have been super busy but finally resumed real world flight training and thinking of setting up a new flight sim PC for training on days the weather keeps me grounded. I would like to go the VR route though, so I would need to hear from you guys as to what type of CPU, motherboard, GPU, RAM, and VR set would be a good build. Also, is MSFS 2020 the go to sim now? For instance, I wanted to save a cold and dark flight with the C172 at a certain location in the airport, but every t…
