Hello all, After being out of flight simming for several years due to starting a family I’m finally able to get back at it. I need some help with a new build. I have never used MSFS so I will be easily impressed. I plan on running at 1440p (High/ultra-settings) and eventually move to 4k. I typically fly PMGD/highly detailed aircraft and use add on scenery (Flight beam, Fly Tampa, etc.) I have put together a new rig and would appreciate any feedback. I don’t need to have the “top of the line” or bleeding edge. CPU Intel: Core i9-12900K 3.2 GHz 16-Core Processor CPU cooler: Noctua NH-D15S 82.52 CFM CPU Cooler MB: As…

Hello My question is about the power consumption of the hardware for flight simulation. I have a computer that I use only for flight simulation, with a processor: Intel Core i9-9900KS 8x4GHz and a GeForce RTX 2080 graphics card. Together with the 37 inch 4 K monitor I measured a power consumption of 400 W per hour. This makes the flight simulation computer the „hungriest power consumer" in my home. That would makes 4 kWh for a 10 hour flight in real time from Europe to the USA.Just yesterday I got an electricity price increase from January on - from 28 ct/kWh to 67 ct/kwh. By changing to another provider I could reduce it to 50 ct/kWh.I have now the idea to redu…

Hi! Everyone, I am thinking of upgrading the CPU in my PC system which is a RYZEN 5 1500X and handles MSFS2020 quite well at medium settings. The question is if I upgrade to RYZEN 5 4500 ZEN2 CPU six cores and 12 threads, will it increase the performance without upgrading the graphic card which is a NVIDIA GTX 970. With Kind Regards.

I have a 1TB SSD drive for MSFS that currently has my Community folder with all the add on scenery. I have been slowly buying add on scenery since the release of MSFS and its now almost halfway full. It won't be long before it is full. I noticed a local retailer has an external 8TB USB hard drive for not that bad of a price. This would offer plenty of storage for the foreseeable future. I am not sure how MSFS would react if I started putting scenery on this external hard drive and somehow linking it to MSFS? I thought I had heard it does not like this but never tried it. Right now I am okay but thinking of the future. Its this or hopefully soon I can get an e…

From TH -- https://www.tomshardware.com/news/ryzen-7000-cpus-get-price-cuts-in-china-up-to-27-percent-lower-than-us-msrp. For example, the 7950x is now $557 down from $765 (China pricing). US MSRP is $699. Wonder when this will hit the rest of the world?

hello, My current config is X570 Aorus Ultra / R5 3600X / RTX 3070 / 32 Go DDR4 I imagine upgrading my CPU soon to balance the setup. I target R7 5800X even if 5800X3D seems better but more expensive. What do you think ? An other question : Do I have to upgrade BIOS before the change or after ? Thanks for answer Franck

I just installed this one and took some pictures that I posted in the screenshot forum (due to the screenshot limitation in regular threads). The main reason I got this PSU was to get rid of the need to use the infamous power adapter for the 4090.

I plan to build a new system for flight sims (and games). First my current system is 4770K @4.5 GHz 16 Gb RAM 2200 MHz 2070 Super all these components I intend to upgrade I use VR in flight sims and have a HP Reverb G2. I use MSFS DCS P3D5 XP11 (maybe XP12 later) I have narrowed down to these three CPUs and find it hard to choose which one. As I see it the main pro and con for each of them is 5800X3D with PRO The reports of good performance in MSFS because of big L3 cache Least expensive system CON Old platform no upgrade possibility Lowest CPU frequencies 7600X PRO Highest CPU frequencies DDR5 memory Seem to have best upgrade …

Kind of neat. Wonder how accurate it is? Seems reasonable for the games I tried. Thought I'd share. https://pc-builds.com/games/bottleneck-calculator Edit: Sort of another one here. https://www.gpucheck.com/gpu-benchmark-comparison

After years of no-flying I'm looking for a desktop to restart this hobby with msfs2020. I've been looking at the Lenovo T7 and woud like to play msfs at very high-max graphics, very good fps, fluently and with addons like pmdg, fenix and hq payware airports with traffic. The T7 has: i9 12900K, RTX3080i, 64 GB RAM, 2TB SSD. Will this rig do the job? What are your thoughts or experieces? Thanks for your advice.

Looking at all the benchmarks coming out for the 13900K, it wipes the floor against the 7950X. Even with MSFS it gets a noticeable fps increase. https://youtu.be/tPA9B-Dfzac For those of us running triple 4K monitors, this paired with the 4090 could be a lifesaver!

I'm curious if anyone is running FSX with this supposed super fast single thread performance CPU. Depending on your cpu jump, did it change your 15fps at a heavy airports to 30fps? Feedback please. Note: If mods want to move this, whatever, but it is specific to FSX only.

Greetings! My current flight simming rig is about 5 years old, so it's time for a new box. The two sims I spend the majority of my time with are P3Dv4.5 and IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles. I want to have a rig that can run those and MSFS as well. Here is a build from CyberPower that I put together today. I would appreciate anyone's opinion if this would be a solid build - thanks! The good news: It’s looking like the 5800x3D is still king so those in the market for a CPU upgrade will be able to save some significant money with AM4 platform and an older generation CPU. Those who need latest and greatest get to wait until Intel or x3D 2nd gen improves. The bad news: We likely aren’t getting a generational leap with CPUs this year. I doubt intel can beat the x3D in MSFS so we will wait to see if AMD releases 7000 series x3D. Some rumors say Q1 2023 but others say Spring 2023 Reviews: https://videocardz.com/138525/amd-ryzen-7000-zen4-raphael-desktop-cpu-review-roundup

I did a complete reinstall of Win 10 and noticed this on the motherboard CD as an optional driver to install. I ask because for reasons I don't understand I cannot get MSI Afterburner/RTSS to display Frame Rate, whereas it does display other values I'm after. W/ the prior install frame rate did display. I've used two different version of MSI-A to no avail. Framerate is greyed out so non selectable. I don't recall if I installed in previously, but didn't this time. Cheers

I currently have a 10900K @ 5.1GHz, 32GB RAM and 3090. I have 3 4K screens and the new multi-view set up. DLSS set to balanced. Running around 20-30 fps with FPS counter saying "Limit by CPU thread". Changing DLSS to performance makes no difference. I assume this means putting in a 4090 won't make a difference and I need a CPU upgrade? Maybe to the next Intel 13900K or AMD 7950X in a new PC?

You know what's going to happen don't you boys and girls. There will be a truck load of people on forums throwing their hands in the air, whimpering and blubbing into their hands because they just discovered their 7950X runs at 95C with a 360 cooler... not realizing its normal for this architecture and designed to run that hot. 😏 So I wonder what TJ Max is?

Well thus far it seems my 97 degree temps with the 12900k were purely due to the extremes of Cinebench R23. I've read lots of reports of R23 generating crazy temps and not just with the 12900k. Currently running Aida64 stress test with AVX and temps are in the 60's and low 70's with the D15S. Absolute max peak I saw was 77. Will run Aida for 30 mins and then try another stress test. Result: 4.9GHz Temp: 60's to 70's Voltage: 1.26 Watts: 177.5 Motherboard Temp: 21c. Samsung SSD Temp: 39c. Aida Bench Score: 116990. 7th place, with no overclocking.
