I have now this system Haswell 4770K @4.5 GHz 16 Gb RAM 2200 MHz NVIDIA 2070 Super which I use in VR with a HP Reverb G2 My research so far make it doubtful that an upgrade to a 12600K for example would make things significantly better in MSFS. That because in MSFS I am reported to be almost always GPU limited and my GPU load is almost a solid line at 100% while CPU is less than 100% But what about other sims like P3DV5 XP11 (and future XP12) DCS ? In P3DV5 my first CPU core is around 100% and the second very high although the other two cores show very low load.

Specific issues to MSFS, hence not posted in the Hardware forum. After solving this issue, Lost all aircraft sounds but ATC sounds unaffected. HELP! I have a new problem. Or problems. Firstly, enabling XMP in my BIOS results in CTDs every time I start a flight, every one of them (bar one) between roll out and the wheels leaving the ground. The other time was when the sim had been sitting on the home menu for 5 minutes or so. As my sig shows, my RAM is 3600MHz, not officially supported by the mobo. The BIOS sets it to 2133MHz and XMP sets it to 3600MHz (there's only one XMP profile). Manually setting the frequency, 2700MHz seems to be the highest for stabili…

Hi Since there is no General Hardware Forum and my question targets CPU and GPU, I went along and created this thread in the CPU Section. Apologies if this was wrong. I currently use the following Rig mainly for Prepar3D V5.x and increasingly MSFS 2020: CPU: Intel Core i7 8700K --> Overclocked @ 5.1 GHz RAM: 2x 16GB Corsair Vengeance, DDR4, 3200 MHz, CL16-18-18-36 MOBO: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS HERO X GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 1080 TI STRIX 11G (No Overclocking) PSU: be quiet! DARK POWER PRO 11 650W Monitor: 2x Dell Ultrasharp U2720Q (Only 1 used for flying with native 4K Resolution) Overall, I'm quite satisfied with the Performance of the Rig, however I starte…

Weird question - my previous rig's PWR button required me to push and hold it before it would turn the entire PC off. My current one - just a simple press of the button and poof - it turns off. This is bad because sometimes my baby walks over and presses it lol. Is there a way I can configure what the PWR button will do? Is this a BIOS thing?

Hi All, I currently have an i5-9600K paired with a 1080TI & 32GB DDR4 3000. I have been thinking about upgrading to the i5-12600K. I have a friend who is looking to buy my CPU, motherboard & RAM. I would love to hear from any of you that have this CPU, from what I have read the single core performance is close to 45% faster than that of the 9600K which should yield a nice result in MSFS 2020. I plan on sticking with Asus motherboards and I am looking at the Asus Prime B660M-A (Although I'll gladly listen too any recommendations). At this point I am not sure a DDR5 board is worth it. Initially I plan on keeping the 1080TI and will see what happens this ye…

I'm looking for an easy to pack 14" laptop that can run P4Dv4.5, a few Orbx sceneries and a few business jets (eg. Carenado). Preferably in the U$1000 range, minimum 512 GB SSD drive, and a discrete GPU. It doesn't have to be the latest models but it has to be 14 inches or less. Thank you.

Hello there! I am new to this forum (so I'm sorry if this is not the right place to ask this question) but not to flight simulators, since I've played fsx for a while now. I am planning on buying fs2020 asap, but the fact that it requires 150 gb is a problem for me, since my pc has got a 256 gb SSD and a 1tb HDD. I could install it in the HDD, but I'm not sure that it would run smoothly. If you know the difference between these 2 disks, can you please tell me if that is a real issue? Installing it in the HDD might be a problem for the performances? Thank you for the attention (and sorry if I made mistakes, English is not my native language)

I hope this is the right place for this query. Time to take a big step up and try MSFS after a long time away. Wondering about an I7-11700 CPU and a RTX 3080 with 16GB RAM and a SSD HD. The sim has been out for a couple of years so hoping there are some solid benchmarks from you all here. There are so many options to chose from it is confusing. John

I have been using my i7 4790k for flight simming since 2016 and it has served me very, very well in fsx and p3d v4. I have been pleasantly surprised at how well my i7 4790k, rtx 2070, and ddr3 32gb ram system handles msfs. It gave me new life in the fs world! That said, I have been contemplating upgrading to something like an i7 12700k and ddr4 ram while sticking with the rtx 2070 for a while. My question is has anyone done a similar upgrade? And how much performance improvement can I expect, especially in heavy scenery areas? I'm trying to decide if the improvement will be worth paying $700-$900 US to upgrade... Fyi, I fly with most settings on …

I recently upgraded my computer system (GPU, GPU, MB...). However, the Virtual Fly Devices (Rudder and Yoke) are not recognized in the USB ports (v3.2, driver error). Has anyone experienced this with the Z690 MBs? Are there any solutions to this problem? In the BIOS, USB ports are configured as "legacy mode." Thanks for any suggestions-- Robert P.S. WIN 10

Ok so I was previously 110% all about my flight simulation. This was roughly 8-10 years ago though. However, now that my kids are grown and off being adults I want to get back into it. Basically I would like to know what is my most basic option of PC that will run fsx on it's lower settings. I'm not looking for excellent settings or running on ultra. I don't have a fortune to spend either. So what I need to know is if I buy a 500-600 computer from say, Walmart, will I be able to run fsx on low settings. Eventually I'll upgrade equipment so that it'll run better. But for now I just want basic, low settings. Can someone PLEASE HELP ME? There's so many options I can't decide…

Hey Folks, Most Motherboard manufacturers have released new BIOS supporting the AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors. https://www.asus.com/news/qccufpijbaobykxo/ While tidying up my Win10 update last weekend, I checked the ASUS website for BIOS updates and found a new version just released. And that new version adds support for the Ryzen 5000 series processor to my Asus X370-Pro motherboard, a motherboard I bought in 2017 when the Ryzen 1700 was brand new. A quick check of the AMD website showed an also just released update to the X370 chipset driver package. And a search of the fav computer stores showed the Ryzen 5800X on special for $140.00 of…

My i5 2500K OC is now starting to struggle a bit with the latest games, it's had RAM added and the graphics card replaced and SSD fitted but it is 10+ years old and I've putting off replacing it for years; waiting for graphics card prices to come down and the next big thing to arrive but I think I just need to get it done! I use the system at 1440p for MFS, gaming (COD WZ, Cities Skylines, Planet Coaster, Forza, GTA:V), Photoshop and occasional bits of video editing - I might go superwide at some point in the future. Also want it cool'n'quiet as the current rig can sound a bit breezy. I want the system to last and have some scope for upgrades in the future. Would app…

Hi, I have a ssd NVMe M.2 samsung 960 evo PCIe 3.0, Sequential Read Speed Up to 3,200 MB/sec. exclusive to msfs. And I was wondering if these new generation PCIe 4.0 with Read/Write Speeds 7000 MB/s would bring some noticeable improvement to msfs.

Hi! So I just bought a new PC. Here's the details: CPU: Intel i9-12900KF COOLING: ASUS Ryujin II AIO OS: Windows 11 Home 64 bit MOBO: ASUS Maximus Z690 Formula GPU: RTX 3080 Ti PSU: ASUS Thor 1200 W RAM: G.SKILL Trident 2x16GB DDR5 6400 SDD: 3x Samsung 980 Pro 2TB CASE: CORSAIR iCUE 7000X The Chipset idles between 63 and 69C! Comparatively, the GPU has a 45C idle with a 55C load in MSFS with every slider to the right. The CPU has a 35C idle and 50C load at the same settings and the SSD's are sitting at 45C during heavy writing. Any thoughts? I've heard ASUS doesn't provide thermal paste / pads for the chipsets sometimes and I haven't poped open my MOBO to l…

Hey members! Looking for your feedback and comments in order to decide. Last year I built a PC with the following specs: CPU: Intel i7 10700KF @4.9 GHz all cores. RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance RGB PRO 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3600 GPU: ASUS Dual RTX 3070 OC. MB: ASUS TUF-Gaming-Z590-PLUS-WIFI (DDR4) – ignoring all other PC parts. Currently I’m highly interested in buying the i9 12900K but as we all already know, that will require to change the MB to support the 1700 socket with the Z690. So here comes the question and the decision… Is it better/recommended to upgrade to DDR5 and Z690 (considering how expensive it is the DDR5 sticks now) or just stay with DDR4 an…

My current system is CPU Haswell 4770K @4.5 GHz RAM 16 Gb 2200MHz Video NVIDIA 2070 Super used with a HP Reverb G2 VR set If I keep the video card and upgrade the system how much improvement to expect mainly for MSFS but also XP P3D5 DCS ? One thing that I find strange is that in MSFS I see the GPU being a solid line at 100% which is not the case in other sims or games. Could I actually be GPU bound in my current system meaning an CPU upgrade would not make much difference ? Do you also see this GPU load on your system ? Has anyone upgraded from haswell with a 2070 Super ?

G'day captains, I'm putting together an upgrade of sorts from the parts bin for MSFS. The current rig is very old and running P3D3.5 (i7-3770K, 1070, 24GB DDR3, SATA SSD) I have the following hardware to work with, just trying to find the optimal combination of hardware for FS because even with the sim being out for 2 years nobody has concluded if this sim is CPU or GPU bound, at least in the last half hour of research I've done. - Asus H270 Prime + i7-7700K + 32GB DDR4-2666 (8X4) - ASRock Z390 + i5-9400F + 32GB DDR4-3000 (16X2) - GTX1070 8GB (re-used, has a ghetto but extremely effective Noctua setup strapped to it) - GTX1…
