I wonder if anyone could offer any advice on setting up storage options for a new flight sim pc. Is it best to have the OS on it’s own dedicated “small” 250GB PCIe SSD and the simulations on another separate large PCIe SSD? And for the scenery, I use XP with orbx true earth for the U.K. and California which is probably about half a TB in itself , would this be ok installed on a 3rd large SSD without reducing performance and causing stuttering, or is it beneficial to install it on the same PCIe as the simulation and get a large PCIe SSD? The PC will be for running XP, P3D, DCS and maybe MSFS almost exclusively in VR. I’m specking up from scratch to ha…

Hey team, my current Windows 10 machine is starting to show its age with an i7-770KCPU @ 4.2GHz and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti all on an Asus motherboard. Anyway, my thought is to upgrade to this machine. Lacks Thunderbolt, but I'm liking the specs otherwise for flight sim as well as for video and phot editing Permiere and Phostshop- Lighthroom . https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1659393-REG/msi_aegis_rs_11tf_223us_aegis_rs_gaming_desktop.html/qa

Hi All, Now that I finally found a bit more time, I was thinking of building a desktop that will be able run the sims on slightly better graphics. Previously I was running FSX on my razer blade 14 (GTX1060) on low graphics setting and no add-on and was not doing much simming. I'm currently looking to build a desktop that will be able to support MSFS 2020 and maybe either Xplane or P3D and was wondering if these specs are any good. Any thoughts on the following set-up? CPU: AMD 5600X MOBO: ROG Strix B550i Gaming RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200 32GB SSD: Samsung 980 PRO 500GB CPU Cooler: Cryorig C7 or Noctua NH-L9x65 Case Fan: be Quiet! Silent Wings 3 120m…

I'm very happy with my modest iBuyPower system bought when MSFS first came out. Sorted by Price low to high, all but the first (cheapest) one will run MSFS. The last one (most expensive) should run at 4K very well. I bought this brand because BestBuy user ratings put that brand (iBuyPower) at more stars in general. I didn't know where there were more user ratings to consult than BestBuy. iBuyPower is a big volume seller now days in America. They seem to always have lots of parts in stock for making their systems, but not for parts sales alone. https://www.ibuypower.com/gaming-pcs/prebuilt-gaming-pcs ==== A real quality custom build at decent prices might be…

I know how to replace a small drive with a larger one, I've done it with hard disc mechanical desktop HDD's. And also on a laptop (using a USB to SATA converter dongle to plug the new larger SATA laptop drive into one of the laptop USB ports, so that the clone software could see both external and internal drives. Cloned the smaller to the larger and swapped it into the laptop and of course it worked fine. My problem: I have a desktop that only takes an M2 drive which snaps onto the mother board. But there is only one slot. So how do I get the clone software to see both drives to clone one to the other? Both drives are M2. I have no clue how to temporarily plug in the…

Apparently these two are very good cpu coolers for small cases: The M22 Kraken water cooler provided the lowest temps. But the Noctua NHU12S was very much quieter. (NHU12S will only fit into some larger SFF cases). The Kraken is smaller and more likely to fit @6:32 graphs show about 2.5 C lower temps with Kraken at 100% fan speeds (not a whole lot cooler). And graph shows Noctua was 8 decibels quieter (actually that is a lot quieter). He recommends at 3:22 to remove motherboard to mount Kraken impeller head onto the cpu, because the backplate behind the motherboard at that point will be loose. But I don't think that has to be an issue. Here's a method I used rec…

Hi all, I am looking at getting a PC for the new MSFS 2020. I am unsure about what build would be good enough to run it at 1080p or 1440p on high or ultra settings with around 30+ fps at most times. I have found a PC with these specs and I would appreciate any opinions on it. Thanks! PC BUILD: Processor - Intel® Core™ i7-11700 Processor - Octa-core - 2.5 GHz / 4.9 GHz - 16 MB cache RAM - 16 GB DDR4 (3200 MHz) - 128 GB maximum installable RAM Graphics card - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 - 8 GB GDDR6 Storage - 2 TB HDD (7200 rpm) - 512 GB SSD …

Hi, I have a 256 GB SSD M.2 (disk E:) dedicated to my MSFS addons (only data, such as aircraft, scenery, etc. - no programs) and I would like to replace it with a larger capacity (1 TB) SSD M.2. I was thinking to copy all the contents of the current (almost full) 256 GB M.2 to another disk (for example, disk D:), replace the M.2 for the larger capacity one, and then copy back all the data files from disk D: to the new 1 TB M.2 disk (that I presume it will be still disk E:). Is that a feasible route? Or do I have to use a disk image program as Acronis (that I am not familiar with)? Thanks!

Hello fellow flyers, I currently do have I5 9600k clocked at 4.6 with CM 240mm AIO Cooler and RTX 2060 Super. I consider going for a 9900k and a 3080 TI without having to change my mobo, ram and so on. Do you think it'd be a worthy upgrade ? I'm running X-plane 11 and P3D5 at 1440p resolution with high-end settings. Thanks in advance

I am installing an I9-11900k in an ASUS TUF Gaming Z590 motherboard. I have a Corsair RMX850 power supply, ATX 2021 version. I built my last PC about 2 years ago with an I9-9900 and on that TUF biard, there was a single 8-pin CPU power block. That was a Z490 board, I think. This Z590 mobo has CPU power connector blocks with an 8-pin block and a separate 4-pin block. The power supply has 8 pin cables, but no 4-pin cable. My question - is the four pin block optional? Do you plug four pins of an eight pin block in it? Haveany of you used this same mobo/cpu combination? Thanks for your help, Jeff Callender .

Traditional HD storage device sizes have been taking a recent jump, fortuitously, just in time for the enormous amounts of data people are being asked to store. But how much storage is "Enough", and how much is "Too much?" Especially as the prices of these huge new drives drop. Would you buy one of these newer super-drives? Best Internal Hard Drives 2021

All too often I read stories about PC's going kaput because of a surge or an unfortunate short circuit that cooks the PC's components or people suffering heart attacks when their PCs shut off immediately during a brown/blackout (Ok, not really, but it does cause the old heart to skip a beat or two, don't it?). Fortunately, there's a solution: the battery UPS or, Uninterruptible Power Supply. It's exactly what it sounds like: in the event of a blackout, your PC will keep running off the UPS' battery seamlessly, as if nothing happened. This allows you to save whatever needs to be saved and shut down properly. It'll also obviously protect the PC from those errant surges…

Hi All, I have a new BBI-32 from Leo Bodnar that has arrived. I plan to make a small overhead for FS2020 that will include various toggle switches. So far I have installed the relevant software and connected a single toggle switch. All is fine except when I assign landing lights or wing lights, for example, the toggle on the simulator vibrates and clicks rapidly almost like it hasn't quite switched into position. This also happens with my Thrustmaster Airbus quadrant on the engine starters. Has anyone had the same thing or can anyone advise if I am doing something wrong please? Many thanks, Dan

"The i9 12900K put in a score of 11,632, which isn’t far off week’s guesstimate of 11,300. That’s very nearly double the 6,419 achieved by the preceding i9 11900K Rocket Lake flagship, while being the 11th fastest CPU tested, only falling behind Xeon, Epyc, and Threadripper processors." https://www.pcgamesn.com/intel/i9-12900k-benchmark-vs-rocket-lake

Hi folks, I’m slowly starting to dip my feet into a new upgrade and doing some searching/research. In my limited knowledge of computer systems, I’m wondering what anyones general thought is on this system.. (note I have a budget to follow, so I need to give and take), also, only sim I use is msfs. Intel i7 10700F - GeForce RTX 3060 - 16GB DDR4 3000MHz - 1TB Intel M.2 NVMe SSD - EVGA XR1 Capture Device This is a pre-built system. Id probably upgrade the ram on it. My current system is in my sig as an fyi. thanks
