I have decided that FOR ME this is the best time to abandon my old Z97 platform and invest in something much newer. I don't want to spend a lot of money (also, honestly, as long as the system guarantees 30FPS in MSFS and Prepar3D for me is enough). I'm keeping the old 1070 for now but I'm thinking of buying a 3060Ti or equivalent in the future. Oh, and I have a 1440p ultrawide but I usually use P3D in windowed mode. I imagine it will be the same in the future when (and if) I migrate to MSFS. I don't want to wait for DDR5, new platforms or new graphics cards! So I was thinking about these two systems: A Intel I5 12400 MSI PRO B660-A mot…

Hi In all my gaming years I've only ever used Playstations but I want to play MS Flight Simulator and wanted some advice as to which of the current Xboxes would be best suited. Is it possible to play it offline or do you have to be online and pay a subscription? Can you help? Thanks!

So Im in the process of upgrading my CPU/Mobo from an 8700K (5.0ghz on water) to a 12700K (probably on water too) I wanted to know if there is really any point in overclocking 12th Gen CPU's for MSFS. I always OCed fpr P3D/FSX and I left the OC for use with MSFS but this CPU is getting old. Will it make much of a difference with the newer Gen stuff? Cheers

Hi guys, I am thinking about upgrading my system and I could use some advice. My current system is a 6600K oc@3,9GHz, RTX 1070 and 32GB ram. I am mainly flying P3DV4 but wouldn't mind either switching to P3DV5 or MSFS, although I would be happy staying on P3DV5 with better frames and better graphics. As I am working from home, I have a 49' screen with a restitution 5120 * 1440. When I recently took the FLS Labs out for a spin, I had an average of 15 fps at Aerosoft's Frankfurt with Active Sky and AIG traffic running in the back. I am mainly looking for a better GPU but would also look into adding a new CPU, if you think this might also help. I would like to spend les…

I am thinking of a new build, not quite sure of components yet but I do have a question about noise. My last build 8700K overclocked with Corsair H115 water cooling is really noisy. I was really expecting water cooling to be quiet. So is a quiet build possible today? Do you even need to overclock the CPU anymore? Interested in the comments here.

Hello all, I am hoping for some advice. After 10 years without a desktop PC, I will finally build one most specifically for MSFS plus some other games which don't require extravagant performance and therefore left out of the equation. Although by no means under a strict budget, I don't want to go over budget as I feel the law of diminishing returns seems to be taking place. I am not going to put on price numbers as I live in a completely different country(Greece) than most, with different VAT and thus prices don't align with the majority of other countries, I will only say that things are a bit more expensive here. I will speak in relative price terms to avoid …

Was wondering on whether people think this is a good system to run FS 20 to a high detail and very smoothy with some addons and high scenery and weather etc. Looking to spend under £1000 but am really keen to run this sim without any lags or issues. Haven't tested yet. But looks like me EVGA PSU is kaput. Have been getting freezes while idling for a while, reboots etc. Now no response at all from button on case or start button on board. Start button on board is illuminated though. So I'm thinking it's generating enough juice to do that but nothing more. Anybody else had PSU failure but still LED on board illuminated?

FYI - AMD announced their latest gen 7000 series processors last night. They appear to be about 30% faster in single threaded performance over similar 5000 series SKUs. (e.g. 5600x vs. 7600x). The new processors require a new motherboard (new socket) and RAM (DDR5), so even though the price points are similar, it'll still be a sizable investment to upgrade. Recommendation: If you are long overdue for an upgrade and need to upgrade your mobo and RAM anyway - this is a good time to do so. HOWEVER, if you can wait a few more months, the X3D versions of these processors are rumored to be available in Q1 of next year. These versions will have a much larger cache, whi…

  12. I now have a Haswell 4770K @4.5 Ghz with 16 Gb 2200 MHz RAM and with a 2070 Super which I use with a HP Reverb G2 VR headset. I have descent performance in MSFS with average fps a little bit above 30 fps but lowest fps always drops below 30 fps. MSFS states that I am almost always GPU limited. Which I find strange. I would expect to be CPU limited with such an old CPU. When I consider upgrading this system for flightsims (MSFS DCS XP P3D) I first came to the conclusion that a 12600K would be the best choice considering cost. But I have start to think about a 12400F since that would reduce the cost with more than $200. And it seem that the 12600K does not make a…

I have recently bought a Corsair iCUE H150i PRO XT and have been using iCUE to control it. However, iCUE seems to leave the fans running at high speed, even after the CPU is down to 27C, which can only be stopped by forcing an upgrade to the firmware. I decided to try it without the iCUE software and to my surprise, find that the motherboard is making a far better job of managing the H150i, the fans make less noise and the CPU is running cooler. Is this something that is to be expected and do any of you find the same?

  15. I have a system almost 10 years old, with a 12 GB system RAM limited motherboard. My question is...for MSFS (and truly the other two....) if one would install 64 GB's of high speed, System RAM, would any of the three major flight sims, MSFS, P3D, and XP11/12, fully utilize your 64 GB System RAM potential? Is there a top limit to what MSFS can 'see' and utilize? I won't have 20 programs running, spread sheets, this and that...and only would be populating that much RAM, for if any of the mentioned flight sims would use/fill the capacity. Also...what about Video Memory? Would grabbing a 3090 with 24 GB's of video memory be advantageous to any of the flig…

Gents, I'm running a 17 9700k on an Asus Z390-E motherboard and a RTX 2080. I, for obvious reasons, wish to upgrade to a 30 series. Does anyone know if the 30 series is compatible with my mobo? I understand that if it is and I do upgrade that I will have a bottle neck at the CPU. I'm willing to live with that until I build a new rig. In the meantime, I'd like to run the Latin VFR and other PBR heavy sceneries and the enhanced atmospherics without running out of VRAM. Any insight would be appreciated!

I don't think a 5800X will make much difference so it seems to be a choice between the 5900X, 5950X and the 5800X3D. Please could anyone with any thoughts or knowledge in this area provide their views, opinions, etc. Thanks p.s. 22. Hello, what‘s your advice regarding a cpu upgrade from intel 8700k? I think about getting a Ryzen 9-5900x or 5950x, but after reading some good reviews an intel alder lake may also become a candidate. The cpu will be used for MSFS and P3D (maybe XP12 if that becomes a good sim). GPU is a MSI RTX 3090

  23. So I have a Dell G7 gaming laptop, that I bought three years ago. It was the fastest that was available from Dell at the time (without going with their Alienware). Processor: i7 with 32 GB RAM, 2.2 GHz, turbo up to 4.1 GHz Graphics: GTX 1060 with 6 GB memory At a small airport (3G4), I can get 39 fps using just one screen. At KOSH with Airventure scenery loaded, I can get 26 fps With three screens, the fps drops to about 9, which makes the game unplayable. I'm thinking of upgrading, but I need to stick with a laptop because I travel a bit, and use flight simulators in aviation classes. I used to lug around a desktop back in the old days, and I d…

  24. So I watched the Asus video on Youtube about how to flash bios and followed the instructions for doing it in windows with the Asus Easy Flash 3 tool. It did not work, I still had the same old BIOS version after doing all that. Next I tried the flash bios from inside the bios (instead of in windows). And it worked perfectly. To flash Bios from inside BIOS, you need to download the new Motherboard driver and put it onto a USB thumb drive (because BIOS can't read files on your Windows computer).. Asus megatrends bios flash screen asked me to write down the bitlocker code before updating. How to do that: type CMD in windows search box and then right…

  25. ...in the BIOS? I'd like to be able to do this as a cleaner/safer dual-boot method. I have two identical 2TB NVMe m.2 sticks and like to clone to one but it's tricky and can be messy to try to do dual-boot thru the boot manager. For my next motherboard it would be nice to have m.2 slots that are controlled in the BIOS, but I don't know if they exist. Cheers
