I'm 83 and I have been with MSFS, and all the iterations, from the beginning. My previous builds were not state of the art, but state of what was affordable. Not this time! Not all components are the very very best, but those that count are. The performance is all I could hope for. Ultra settings on an ultra-wide 3440x1440 monitor makes flying in MSFS so immersive you can smell the hot engine oil. Really! I ended up getting a Founders Edition RTX 4080 at Best Buy at MSRP. The 4090 may help in VR but the 4080 renders MSFS with room to spare in my opinion. Here is my list. Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow, white, 6 fans CPU: Intel Core i9 13900K MB: Asus Prime Z7…

I've currently got a 8 gig 2080 and a 750W power supply. All works fine. Considering since the prices are coming down a 3090. Will a 750W power supply be sufficient? CPU is I9-9900k, 32 gigs ram. Thanks.

  3. My upgrade journey for the newer generation of flight sims has been incremental - the 'GPU/CPU upgrade shuffle'. In both MSFS and X-plane 11 in VR, even a large upgrade in one of those two elements usually quickly hits the next restriction with the other one. This particular step was the Ryzen 7 5800X to the new AM5 socketed 7700X. And that meant a new motherboard - and ASUS X670. And that motherboard needing DDR5, meant new RAM, etc, etc. Familiar story? Against the sound advice and words of caution from most sensible and knowledgeable folks, I decided to see if I could succeed in the undoubted risky way of keeping the present M.2 SSD boot drive and…

I grew up obsessed and ended up working for a helicopter flight training school about 10 years ago, and it killed my passion, and now im 36, married, 2 kids, living oversaes in the philippines, renting a house, lots of bills, crazy wife, addicted to work. My boss got me a xiaomi 34 inch 3440×1440 curved monitor and i think it will make simming amazing, provided that the high resolution doesnt force me to spend myt entire budget on just a graphics card. So my entire budget for jstu the case and internals is abotu 900-1000 usd. Ive been using an online builder fr…

  5. Hey Guys. Just was doing a bios update and had a couple questions. For some reason I forgot to write down my bios settings before updating. I know for sure I had XMP on, but felt like I had some others changed. Any best practices? Mostly just use MSFS in terms of heavy lifting. Other than that just basic office work stuff. -SMT Mode. Are you guys finding it's best with this on or off? Thanks.

Hi everyone, While it seems the 5800X3D is pretty much the best processor for MSFS out there, with plenty of benchmarks and bar charts suggesting it trades blows or exceeds Zen 4 or Raptor Lake; I can’t seem to find much data on P3D. I’ve only seen a small handful of posts, as I’m searching to cast a wide net for opinions and feedback. I was wondering does anyone use a 5800X3D with P3Dv5 who could share their experience? I have a 5900X paired with a 3080 10GB on a 1440 panel with a birthday coming up, and am on the fence if I want to ditch the 5900X for the 5800X3D as an interim upgrade before having to change platforms entirely - maybe buy another year or two…

Good afternoon. 15 years ago i used to play FS9 for couple of years. But now 15 years later i want to try it again and i dont have to space in my house to set up a pc anywhere i want to buy a Game laptop and i want to play Flightsim sometimes because i dont have to time to do it everyday so i dont want to go above a budget of €1000 euros. So i saw a laptop its called the MSI Katana GF66 11UC-813NL - Gaming Laptop - 15.6 inch - 144 Hz. Here are the specs. https://www.msi.com/Laptop/Katana-GF66-11UX/Specification Would i be able to play MSFS 2020 normally on this laptop i dont have to have 100fps but that i can play the game smoothly…

  8. Hi all, I am planning to upgrade my computer step-by-step. Currently I am limited by main thread with my old 8700K. Both in 2D and VR. My first plan is to upgrade my CPU and mobo to something fresh. Thinking 13900K. Even though my 1080 ti is an old GPU I am hoping the CPU upgrade alone will give me many more FPS! But what about VR? Do you think I will see some improvements there as well? I am sure the GPU will be the new limit after this upgrade but since my CPU always was the bottleneck then I don't really know how much the 1080ti can do in MS VR. What do you think? Ps. In about a year or so I will upgrade the 1080 to 4090 when (hopefully) the price …

I know there a lot of topics about this CPU. There are a lot of benchmarks but they are all different. So are there any FS2020 simmers who upgraded from a I7-10700K to the 5800X3D in combination with a 3080/3090. And was it worthwhile ? Less stutter and more FPS ? For around 300 euro I can change my system into a 5800X3D system. (selling the other I7 parts)

Hello everyone. I had my PC running this morning when it suddenly switched off. No programs running at the time. It was idle. I don't know if it was some kind of power surge/cut but when I tried to restart it, nothing happened. The green motherboard light is on as are the RGB motherboard lights. When I press the power button all I get is a "click" sound and nothing else. I tried a different power cord, connected to a different wall socket. I discharged the cappacitors by holding the power button while the PSU power button was in the off position. I built this system in 2020 and has been running fine since then. Is there any tests I can …

Hi all, I have the opportunity to buy a used 9900k cpu. My Left view pc currently has 8700k cpu running @ 5 GHz GHz. GPU is a 3090. 4K. When banking I sometimes see small stutters so perhaps the 2 extra cores might help with faster terrain loading. This is the last upgrade possible before buying a new cpu/mobo. Anyone upgraded from a 8700k to a 9900k ? What was your experience regarding performance? This is the what I found ( 8700k vs 9700k ) :

If I wanted to upgrade, keep things reasonably inexpensive, up my MSFS performance, what route would you take. My current rig is below. It runs the sim ok, although I get freezes that I cannot pinpoint to a hardware issue so I’m not even sure that’s the cause. I can get 30fps on mid setting with LOD of 100-150. Current rig: i5-6600k, gtx 2060 super, 32gb ddr4 2133, sata 6gb/s hdd. Thinking of doing a new mobo and processor but keeping the ram and video card (upgrade vid card later), and going to 2 m.2 hdd. Was thinking an i5-13600 and an asus z790 plus mobo, along with 2 2tb m.2 2280 SSD drives. Could I expect some improved performance ou…

  15. I just bought a new prebuilt PC for MSFS with 13700k and an RTX 4090 (asus z690 tuf gaming plus wifi motherboard and 32gb ddr5 ram). I notice in MSFS that if I fly in a demanding areas like Chicago or NYC on default ultra settings, my CPU instantly thermal throttles back to 4.5ghz. I notice my temperatures are hitting around 100 degrees forcing this to happen. Is this normal? In TimeSpy I notice my score is really low for my CPU (17,218) and I can see the temperature shoot up to 100 degrees celcius in the tests as soon as the CPU test is run in the benchmark. I have even tried undervolting the cpu today and it made my results far worse. The PC comes with an MSI MAG C…

Anyone have any clues why my onboard audio isn't working after installing my RTX 4080? Power is on, my three plugs (green, black, orange) are in the correct jacks.... speakers are turned on. No sound at all. Ok and I fixed it whew. For some reason when I plugged back in my monitor it enabled sound directly from that... On this moment I am having an older i9-9900k and 2080ti. Tripple 24" 1980*1200 monitors (60hz). Somehow I have flights that a re pretty choppy, so I wonder if an upgrade is something good. I did read and viewed several hardware reviews and I came to the conclusion that the 13900k is beast of a processor. I also have to live with the electricity company. Electricity is nearly 1 euro for 1 kwh (like in in most spots). The 13900k is also a beast in consuming electricity. I have seen that for instance the 5800x3d from amd is a nice contender too. Both lighter on electricity but also a bit down on fps. But what I saw is that the AMD CPU is delivering nice frames…

  18. Hi all guys, I've been reading you for months now, and thanks to you I finally got to buy the new pc, I hope in the best possible way for msfs at the moment. In April 2022 my pc broke on which I flew thousands of hours in fsx. Since then I stalled until yesterday, and finally decided to buy the new pc with I think the best current components for msfs. It stands to reason that you can always wait a few months for new hardware to come out, but at that point you don't buy anymore! I stalled for the release of the rtx cards and the new Intel ones, and the wait was long. So I decided and bought the following: Cpu: i9 13900kf GPU: rtx 4090 MSI suprim x Mb: Z…

HI guys, the wife has given me permission to upgrade ( 🙂 ) and im a bit lost as to what to do now... lol I don't have unlimited funds so a 4090 upgrade is not on the cards - however, a 3090 certainly is... My system specs are in the sig, so im wondering what the best upgrade for the CPU would be? Ill need a bigger case as mine wont fit the 3090 due to its length... a beefier PSU i believe...and possibly MOBO... i can salvage my ram and fans.. it all starts to add up and i know that i wont be upgrading for a couple more years.... im primarily wanting it for VR flying... Open to thoughts and thanks heaps!

This is something that didn't happen as much with the default bios, I can't use that one as I'd be stuck with the base clock on my 5800x3d. Anything I can do to keep the fans from doing this constantly when at idle or when just web browsing? CPU and GPU temps are fine. I run a 240mm AIO cooler. No idea what triggers it. Obviously I expect louder fans when gaming but they shouldn't be running this much when not doing anything. Unless my 4090 is producing so much heat it's causing it.

Built a new system about a year and a half ago (May 2021) for flight sims (Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 & DCS) & other gaming. For flight sims I use only VR. For non-flight sim games I use a monitor. AMD 5950X ASUS Crosshair VIII Dark Hero GeForce RTX 3090 Over the past year and a half the system has worked great at regular gaming (Like Cyberpunk 2077). However, for DCS in VR I am GPU limited and it struggles. Common problem. DCS is always a battle for more GPU and turning up graphics options 😉 I'm considering an upgrade to a 4090 for this. For MSFS 2020 I am CPU limited. I've spent the past couple months trying everything I could to get…

I have a Toughbook 33 that I use at work. It is running Windows 11. Lately, my pen and touchpad will stop working at the same time and the only way to fix it is a reboot. If it was just one or the other I'd have a clear idea of the problem, but these are basically two different input interfaces. The touchpad on works like a mouse. The touchscreen works with the pen (or a finger). When I have the problem both of these stop working at the same time (pen and touchpad). I can still use the keyboard if it's attached to tab around, etc., but in my line of work I really need that touchpad and/or pen to be working. Anybody have any ideas?

Hello All, I've always done full clones but because of how inconvenient it is to get to a 2nd m.2 NVMe drive I've decided to just keep the one 2TB stick in and image it in the event of a catastrophic failure I can restore my current install. I do own Macrium so if you've done this can you do a quick review of steps to image and restore my entire one 2TB drive? Thanks in advance!
