Since I don't have enough usable kidneys left to afford building a new system for MSFS, I'm pondering an "interim" upgrade to squeeze a bit more life out of the old girl. She's an "off the rack" i7 7700 @3.6GHz with 16Gb RAM and a generic GTX 1070 with 8Gb. MSFS runs "okay" with a reasonable expectation of performance from PMDG, payware airports, FSTL, etc... "Reasonable" meaning living with 10-15fps slideshows on the ground and in the pattern at mostly medium settings. I'm considering bumping the RAM to 32Gb and going to an external SSD (USB) mainly because both of these can be purchased without having to compromise my morals on a street corner. I'm not looking for a mir…

Hey guys, so I am purchasing the 7950x3d but not sure what mobo and ram to get ? preferably 6000 cl30? So I’ve read lol. I currently have a 9900k and a gigabyte z390 master mobo and a 3080ti surprim x which has served me well. i do not overlock apart from stock boosts. But I do prefer a solid mobo even thou it’s overkill. Appreciate the help thanks mike

Hello, Anyone upgraded from a I7-10700K to a AMD 5800X3D ? What can I expect at 4K ? At the moment I am running the I7-10700K @ 4.8GHZ all cores and 3600 memory CL16. Around 800 euro is the cost to upgrade to the 5800X3D (including mainboard). And maybe I can sell the I7 and motherboard afterwards. But what can I really expect. Yes I know al lot of YouTube benchmarks but would really like to know from real simmers in this forum. Thanks.

Shalom and greetings all my pals, Just bought a new laptop for general use. It is very powerful but only with 16GB ram. Do all of you think 16GB ram is enough for general use such as internet surfing, Photoshop editing, Paint Shop Pro Ultimate editing, video streaming, and anything non flight sim related? Regards, Aharon

Hi everybody, now I feel is the time to look for a new computer. Over the last years I have followed many interesting discussions on the forums and seen very good and experienced advise, that´s why I look for such as well. Hi all, My 6700k has served me quite well for 7+ years and I'm looking to start a complete rebuild, only keeping some SSD's. Looking for a high-end system running most likely a 4090 @ 4k. For now, I'm on P3D exclusively due to all my airliners and some of the limitations of MSFS such as no weather radar. However, I'd like to start transitioning to MSFS in the next year or two. Looking at the AMD X3D series, the upcoming 7800X3D looks like the way to go, although the 4.2 base clock (4.4 if moving up to the 7900) could be a problem for P3D, as it's very core speed-dependent. I'm not sure how the core boosting on the AMD works, i.e. is it just one at at time or could it…

First reviews are out and it looks like MSFS is once again more cache hungry than Mhz hungry. It seems a lot of reviewers are starting neglect MSFS as a benchmark game but Eurogamer.net and TomsHardware whose previous results seem to be most in line with what people were seeing in real everyday MSFS use have tested again. https://www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-2023-amd-ryzen-9-7950x3d-review?page=2 They took some of their old reviews offline and rightfully so because they were using test results over a year old and the sim performance has changed since then. Although, CPU usage is arguably unimproved. Either way, they mention that MSFS got 99 FPS in their T…

I am starting to plan my next full flight sim computer upgrade (AMD vs. Intel, what GPU to get, etc.). The one part that I don't understand is the difference between a nice, but lower end motherboard that costs $150 or so and the high-end one that costs $600 or more. I can see differences in the audio output (optical audio out) and the presence of Thunderbolt 4 ports... but those should not really make a difference in performance. And are they enough to make a motherboard cost 4x the price of the lower end one?

Is anyone runing the AMD 7900 X3D chip yet and if you are what motherboard are you using ? I don't normally have a dilemma in choosing one but I really want to get this one right if possible. I have a 4090 and I normally lean toward the AORUS motherboards as they have been great in the past. Would love to hear your suggestions.

Ladies and gents, So.. ordering a 4090 has put me in a bit of a predicament. I was planning on using my o11 Dynamic case for the new build. But it seems it is lacking the space for the GPU. I have two options. Get another case (don't really want that tbh as I like the case I already have) or mounting it vertically. Thing is, though. What kit would you recommend for the vertical mount. Another thing that kind of irks me is the fact that the vertical kits seem to cost about half of a new case such as the o11 Dynamic Evo (that should fit the card) making me kind of pondering if I shouldn't just get the darned case and try to sell current build as is with case and …

Okay, this has happened to me twice, with two separate PC's. I always switch off my PC at the wall when not in use, not during the day, but certainly over night. 1. About 6 years ago: Occasional loud pop/crack noise, that I felt was coming from UK 13 amp wall socket. Being handy with home electrics, I replaced the socket. No dice, still happened. Happened again, and seemed to kill surge protector strip, thinking that was the issue, I replaced it. Nope, still happened intermittently. Then finally, it happened again and the PSU was dead. RMA'd the PSU and all was well. That was it, faulty PSU. But couldn't figure out how the noise seemed to be coming from th…

In his latest 7800X3D benchmark Pauls's Hardware showed the 7800x3D clearly outperforming the 7950X3D in MSFS despite the 7950X3D's slightly higher clock (by 200 MHz = 7%) and slightly more v-cache. this doesn't make sense and more detailed benchmarks from other testers show the 7950X3D indeed slightly ahead of the 7800X3D, albeit only marginal and probably not noticeably in game. these misleading higher fps numbers of the 7800X3D might be the result of a bug in AMD's core parking driver. obviously false benchmark result: ......................................................... here is why, and it is not Paul's Hardware fault: Ryzen 7 7800X3D Ben…

Hi all, My current computer is a 6700K from 2016 -- it's served me extremely well, but it's time for an upgrade! I've always built my own systems but in the 7 years since the last time I've decided I'm too old for that nonsense. 😀 Does this configuration seem reasonable from CyberPowerPC? (I'm especially wondering whether the 240mm water cooler is likely to be adequate cooling -- I've also never had a build with watercooling before, so I have no idea...) BTW, my sim is MSFS. Appreciate any insights from the experts here! James CAS: CyberPowerPC KIRA II 241V Mid-Tower Gaming Case w/ Tempered Glass Side Panel + 4X ARGB Fans Included (White Color) CPU: AMD R…

So currently my CPU meets the very minimum for MSFS. I have the i5-4460 at 3.2ghz but my GPU is under the minimum as I have GTX 750ti. I was thinking about upgrading my GPU as well as my RAM. I have 12GB which I plan to upgrade to 16GB. I am curious if anyone else uses this CPU and what your performance is like and what GPU you have. I’m not expecting to run MSFS on high I’m just hoping I can run it on medium/low and get 30-40FPS. I can actually still run the game now and while it looks better than P3D I can tell I’m not getting the full experience, since my card is under the minimum and I would be happy just to be able to get the base graphics to look correct. …

I order a new laptop that arrived today, an Asus ROG Strix G16. The laptop comes with a 1 TB NVME drive by default. I had acquired a 4 TB and 2 TB M.2 2280 NVME drive planning to completely ditch the 1 TB drive that came with the laptop. I booted windows, pulled the Windows registry key, then opened the computer up and placed the two new drives in the two M.2 bays, removing the old one. I was able to boot in to the Windows USB install media, but when it came time to select where to install Windows, no HDD partitions were seen. A bit tedious, but replaced the old SSD, keeping one new one. Started windows, and then with disk manager created a GPT drive, and qu…

Do a simple test for me? I'm curious how it handles a TLOD of 200 vs 400 at 4K resolution, all else being the same. A comparison of FPS using a scenario similar to this would be especially appreciated: NYC area with PG on; A320 NEO; 5000 ft, live weather and traffic off. TIA!

It never occurred to me that the differences would be so noticeable. I believe maybe back in the day it wasn't, but obviously with newer computers and memory, things have changed.
