I'm not in the mood to build a new computer. It's just a PITA now to be honest. The Jetline's are pricey, but having someone do all the work and make sure the system is functional would be nice. I've never had a build failure, but years ago the amount of parts were more limited. It's way too much work with compatibilities now. Is this a crazy idea? 😄

I'm wondering if many here have made this upgrade and whether they found it a cost effective boost to MSFS performance. I'm in two minds on whether to make the leap on this or put the money towards the next Motherboard/CPU upgrade. At the moment I'm leaning towards putting the cash towards the next major upgrade which may be the 7800X3D depending how that plays out.

As I mentioned in my quick tests in the other thread this chip is a beast and just a few % off from the 7950x3d and smokes Intel in MSFS. Scroll down to see MSFS charts. If the 7950x3d was available where i'm at I would have just got that but Its not so I went for this chip and its really amazing in MSFS. If you have a 5800x3d , id wait till the next gen x3d tbh, 15% increase isn't worth the upgrade to am5 platform. If coming from like a 5900x or lower do it. one other thing id like to add: during MSFS the power consumption of this chip is only 60w + 170-225w for the 3080. pretty amazing if you ask me! https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-ryzen-9-7900…

I have just retired my 9900k and few months ago retired my beloved 1080ti . Is just me but were those two a marriage made in heaven for us, a little long in tooth simmers of P3D /Xplane . They were king and queen of this Hobby and if you had them you looked on in envy and you felt like a simming prince. Doyens of frame rates, late nights and empty bank accounts. alas times move on , with the ever more greedy power hungry sims my trusty old lumps were showing their age. Having passed them both on to my youngest son ( with some unwillingness) i asked him to take care of them both like elderly relatives. Now he tells me he plays Cyber witch craft , call of duty the bats f…

  6. Hello, Thank you in advance for your time and suggestions! I am enjoying P3D v5.3 and MSFS thoroughly. I am constantly amazed at the graphics in MSFS despite its faults. P3D continues to be my 'go-to' sim with many scenery addons, the Q400, big Boeings, FSL A320 family, and the iFly MAX. Here is my predicament: My current system is an i7-10700K, GTX 1080 (left over from an old Alienware system), 32gb 3200mhz ram and Seasonic Focus GX-750 power supply. I have been going back and forth on upgrading the video card however I know I am restricted by the power supplies limitations. If I keep the PSU that will rule out the 3080 and maybe even the 3070 TI. Off…

  7. My current rig is 3850XT on X470 with 32G RAM and 1080 from 5 years ago (CPU was 2600 from start), it's not top edge then (bought 2nd hand 1080 for quite cheap as a start for that) let along now. The really aging part is that 12 year old windows7, yes 12 year without reinstall, and it took quite effort to make it even work with this rig. It's not broken, but things are staring to move away from me, iFly737AS/MAX for P3Dv5 only, FSL 320 for win10 1808 and above only (and upcoming Concorde for sure), and XP12 of course.... I said this so you can see where I'm heading....I really like things that lasting loooooong.... Anyway, while I do have win10 instal…

Hello everyone, below are my current PC specs. My computer has done a good job for the last few years, but in times of 4K and MSFS it is no longer up to date. I would be happy if you could give me some tips on how I can finally fly the MSFS and the Fenix smoothly with my 4K monitor. Currently I scaled down to 1280x1080 and on the near lowest settings. Feel free to throw a few modification options in the pot. Money should now be pushed into the background. Please move my Topic to the right subtopic - thanks. Many thanks for your help! 12. Right so my PC is really struggling to maintain a decent frame rate, sometimes it’s 30FPS which I’m very happy with, but in some areas of the sim like at the big airports like O’hare, JFK and Heathrow the sim is dropping to like 20-25FPS or lower sometimes, then other times it can fly (no pun intend) to like 40FPS in some areas that are AI generated I noticed that when I was flying out of one of Pakistan’s airports, but otherwise it’s normally 30FPS. I used the Nvidia GeForce experience to optimise the sim and fly on medium settings. I’ve asked on the sims official forums but some people are saying get a better graphics card but others say get a new CPU, I don’t know much…

Hello, I've stopped simming couple of years back due to having some other priorities and my computer being too old. P3D with all the addons was slow and MSFS as well. Currently still have 6700K, not overclocked now, but was before to 4.8, and GTX1080ti, 32GB RAM. I am thinking of getting 13700K, a Z790 board with DDR4 RAM, 1000W PSU and RTX 4080 FE. Why DDR4? Because my current RAM is quite fast, two sets of G.Skill 16 GB DDR4-3600 C16 (F4-3600C16D-16GTZ), and the appropriate DDR5 would be ridiculously expensive to get better latencies. I also believe 13700K is correct, as I think i9 is more for workstation work, while i7 is more for gaming, which is O…

My new system is dedicated to flight sim and I'd like to optimize it's operation for MSFS 2020. Would I do better with HT turned on or off... or would it not matter? That said are there any other BIOS or Windows settings I should be using? I haven't bothered to try to overclock, and frankly, I'd like to keep it simple. But I'd try something that's not too complicated.

*RANT* So, I figured I would replace my three year old Corsair H150i 360. After some research I opted for the Arctic Liquid Freezer II with a 360mm rad. Got the product from an online reseller. I installed it as per instructions and booted the computer. Everything worked super! I had *WAY* better temps than before. Idling at 35C. A two hour flight in MSFS kept my 5900x <70 degrees C where the Corsair could at times visit way north of 80. Very, very happy to say the least. Two weeks later the computer started dying on me while idling at the desktop. Booting into BIOS I watched in horror as the CPU temp slowly climbed up to ludicrous levels before either I shut…

I've been trying to overclock my Intel i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz to run at 5GHz. I followed a number of videos online, however in Windows it still says 3.6GHz and in part of the BIOS it also says that. In the BIOS I set Ai Overclock Tuner to XMP II and CPU Core Ratio to Sync All Cores. You can see the Target CPU Turbo-Mode Frequency is 5GHz at the top. See page one of my BIOS here https://imgur.com/xVBv8Qi I set Core 1 to 50 which then synced across all of the other cores https://imgur.com/nujILBg And then I set DRAM frequence to AUTO to ensure it could keep up with the new processor speed (should I set an exact amount on this?). But as you can see in the Hardware …

  24. Good day, I built a gaming pc last month, with 11700kf and a RTX 3090, mainly for flight simulations (DCS World, MSFS). In MSFS, it’s difficult to handle 4k@60fps, probably due to single thread issue of the game. Acqually I have gpu load about 40-50%, cpu similar but with single core heavy workload in windows task monitor, and the warning of Main Thread Limit in dev mode. I’m using TLOD/LOD around 80-100. Actually I see fps drop when rotating virtual view in cockpit (it drops to 40-50fps, then returns to 60 once view is fixed) Do you think upgrading from 11700kf to 13700kf (13900) will change this substantially, or not? I chose the 11700 because I thought th…
