Hi, what is the best option when using a 1 TB SSD NVMe M.2 and a regular SSD 512 GB + external 4GB HDD: What I need to to. Install Windows and Linux. Install P3D/MSFS/XP. Backup for videos and pictures. Different software. How should I split it? I thought I could use the M.2 SSD for my video and image ediging and when I am done, move it to the Backup drive. Otherwise I am unsure, how to proceed with the other software. Is it enough, when I dedicate P3D, XP and MSFS on the 512 GB SSD? Are 512 GB enough? Does the drive speed matter? Should I install Windows and Linux on the M.2 SSD (with 2 different partitions)?

Hello, I want to buy a new laptop, and I'm between these two options: Lenovo Legion 5 - 17.3" FullHD (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Nvidia RTX3060-6GB) - 1400 € MSI GL65 Leopard 10SEK-241XES Intel Core i7-10750H/32GB/1TB SSD/RTX 2060/15.6" - 1300 € On the one hand, the Lenovo has a bigger screen and a better GPU (I think). On the other hand, the MSI has more RAM and a i7. I don't know if the i7 is better than the R7, the reviews are mixed. My idea is to use both sims with 'normal' graphics, I'm aware that I cannot run both sims at its maximum. Kind regards

Hello, so I want to start saving up to get a new computer that is able to run MSFS on medium settings but don't know what I can expect to spend for one. I run P3D v4 on my current setup but have to keep the settings at around medium to get decent FPS, and it doesn't meet the minimum requirements to run MSFS. I am starting a full time job soon so would like to get one prebuilt if possible. So can anyone give me some recommendations as to what I should get or where I can get it? Luckily I already have a TB SSD in my current computer that I can use to install Windows and the sim. Also, I live in the US if that helps. Thanks

Hi, Building new computer for MSFS. Just need the last advices for RAM: 1) 3200 CL14 14-14-14-34 or 3600 CL16 16-19-19-39? (The second one is cheaper) 2) Which is better for overclocking with XMP profile? 3) What are the differences in performance (frames per second) between using XMP or using RAM at stock speed? I also have MSI MEG Z490 ACE, i9-10900K and Asus Rog Strix RTX 3090 24GB OC.

Hi I prefer to start a new topic because computer ideas are changing in a question of weeks... Now that I finally (!!!) got my videocard "problem" solved I can start looking for the other computer devices. A brand new Asus ROG Strix RTX 3090 OC 24GB will arrive in some days. It seems to be number 1 in all videocard reviews I have seen. Now, the next "battle": i9-10900K or Ryzen 9 5900X? Does MSFS use so much cores and threads? After choosing this, I need to decide between Z490 or X570 motherboads, since I don´t know if it is possible and better to use Z590 with i9-10900K in terms of performance. Suggestions are welcome.

Hi, After some months I got the most difficult component to get, the gpu. It is Asus ROG Strix RTX 3090 OC 24GB. Now, I would like to get another round of opinions to complete my build: 1. i9-10900K or Ryzen 9 5900? (the same endless discussion...😊) I think Ryzen 5950X is too expensive... 2. AIO or custom loop? Is the last one useful to get temperatures as low as possible? Something like this but not so expensive... https://www.corsair.com/pt/pt/Categorias/Produtos/CORSAIR-iCUE/Resfriamento-personalizado/XH-Custom-Cooling-Kits/p/CX-9070005-WW. Suggestions are welcome. 3. Which type motherboard? Z490 or X570? I am not sure if one can use Z590 with an I…

Hi guys, first time posting in this forum. I had a question for you. I read all the time in these forums and others about updating vid cards, some buy a newer card every year it seems. Personally I have never done that. I was under the impression that unless the CPU is generally upgraded too, the overall systems wont perform well. This is the idea of a 'balanced system'. I just got done reading a post from a guy who has a 5 year old I5 chip and went from a 1070 to a 1080 and saw 'amazing performance increase'?? I felt that both those cards way overmatch the CPU. Am I missing something here? What are your thoughts. Thanks

Hi All, I believe I have posted about the potential of building a new PC on here in the past, however I am now in a position where I am actively planning to upgrade my current system in the coming months. I am looking at a small form-factor (micro-atx, small tower) PC to make transport easier in anticipation of my starting Univerisity later this year, with a substantial increase in my current level of Performance. I have a decent amount of money with which to finance this though I would ideally like to avoid going too far over GBP1000/USD1400 For detail my current setup is as follows, which I use to run P3DV4.5 at 1080p & 30fps: CPU - AMD-FX 8350 …

I am considering buying a prebuilt PC coupling a Ryzen 5900 series with NVIDIA 3090 graphics card. I do not think I need the 5950X. Two options then are the 5900 and 5900X. According to an article I read I quote: "Ryzen 9 5900 is essentially the power-optimized version of the Ryzen 9 5900X. The Ryzen 9 5900 retains the same 12-core, 24-thread design with 64MB of L3 cache as its counterpart. Unlike the Ryzen 9 5900X's 105W TDP, the non-X model is restricted to 65W. With a stricter power limit, the Ryzen 9 5900 obviously arrives with lower operating clock speeds. The processor has a 3 GHz base clock, which is 700 MHz lower than the Ryzen 9 5900X. The boost clock,…

I am in the process of buying an Intel/Nvidia based PC and would like some knowledgeable CPU advice please. I currently have a i9-9900K/2080ti setup and I am looking at a i9-11900/3090 combination. The question is do I want a 11900F or 11900KF? The KF is obviously faster but requires liquid cooling in the solution I am looking at. The KF does multi-threaded better but single-threaded performance seems fairly comparable. The 2 sims I use most are MSFS 2020 and DCS (single? multi? threaded). So would either of these sims take serious advantage of the KF or would the F be a reasonable choice. Input is appreciated. Thanks

Hello everyone, Been in the middle of trying to upgrade my 4 year old machine for a year now. (And what a year it’s been.) I’m primarily a P3D user, eventually getting into MSFS. I’ve been primarily using Intel for the last 10+ years on my machines, having been extremely disappointed by AMD in the past. I had been considering a 5900X as an upgrade to my 7700K (@4.8), but they’re simply not available in my area like most others’ experience. Considering AMD again was something I have certainly been debating recently. However, it seems 11900K’s are starting to pop up in limited numbers locally. Something I’d at least have a chance of getting my…

So, I have a Ryzen 5 3600 on an Asus motherboard. Not sure what model. Came with 8 gigabyte adata DDR4 XPG Z1 @ 3000mhz. I would have liked a modest 8 gigabyte increase, same ram. Everything comes in 16 gigabyte packages though. However, I have found 32 gigabyte packages, same ram model @3200 mhz. I am wonder if I can just drop in faster ram without any extra setup or if even my system can use faster ram. Any advice?

Hi, I have a i5-4460, with 8Gb ram and a GTX 770. This gives a playable MS2020 Sim with what I feel are traditional graphics but not the photo realistic type stuff I have seen on twitch / youtube etc. I usually run 1080 but would like to get to 1440. I have just ordered another 8Gb ram, and have been considering a GTX 970, but unsure as I am guessing the CPU will become a bottleneck and I'll be no better off. Grateful for thoughts on the best value GPU upgrade, and options for a stepwise upgrade path. My current mobo is https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z97P-D3-rev-10/support#support-cpu and Im not sure a CPU upgrade will do a huge amount unles…

Don't try it at home folks, it's soldered. Seems the solder TIM is very thickly applied, so much so that De8auer managed to knock 12 degrees off the temp. That's the sort of temp drop we see when delidding a CPU with a paste TIM between die and IHS. Silly Intel, applied as a huge gob of solder. May as well have used paste if you are going to do that.

Hello, I will shortly be upgrading my CPU on my system. I have 3 options, and I would appreciate your views on the matter. I really only 'play' Flight Sims (Prepar3D, MSFS2020). Both options will require motherboard changes. I will not be overclocking CPU, as I will get B motherboards Current PC: i5 7500 (4C/4T) 16GB 2133mhz DDR4 RAM (Will be the next upgrade) 2070 Super OC Option 1: i9 10900F Base 2.8GHZ Boost 4.5GHZ 10C/20T Option 2: i5 11600KF Base 3.9GHZ Boost 4.9GHZ 6C/12T Option 3: i7 10700KF Base 3.8GHZ Boost 5.1GHZ 8C/16T Having searched through this forum and others, people seem t…

I usually build a new flight sim computer every four to five years. My last build was about five years ago, so I am researching components to build, considering my age, probably my last computer. I have budgeted $2500 for the system, not counting the nonexistent graphics card. I have a RTX 2070S that I will use until someone who has less money than Jeff Bezos can afford to buy a 3000 series GPU. I am leaning toward the i9 10900KF CPU. However, all of the motherboard choices are rather confusing. I know that I should get a Z490 chipset. I have looked at the Asus ROG Maximus or a Strix because I have used Asus in the past and have had good luck with them. However, I w…

Hi all. I am buying a new laptop so I can scratch my "away from home but still want to fly" itch. Getting an MSI GE75 Raider with Core i7-10875H, RTX 2070 Super [Mobile], 32 GB DDR4 3200MHz Ram, 1 TB NVMe SSD. Panel is a 17.3" 300 Hz 3ms display. I already own FSX:SE. Curious if suggestions would be to install and enjoy that, or go ahead and try MSFS2020. While on the road, I will be most interested in "Low and Slow" GA flying, so graphics presentation and performance will be important. Thanks in advance for any insight!

I priced out a good but not the latest computer at cyberpower pc for 2k, i7-10900k, 32 gigs ram, gtx 3070 8 im thinking about getting the Xbox series x - a whole lot cheaper. Of course everything is sold out and I’m not paying over $500 for one. thoughts, ideas? im only interested in bush flying, and light GA flying, I don’t care about jets. Im wanting a computer but more in the $1500 range...

I'm building or... I should say upgrading some parts in a RIG that I had a lot of help from this forum about 5 years back. I would like to upgrade the CPU to an i9-10900k and would like your thoughts on if a Noctua NA-D15s would suffice to keep it cool? I am a Noctua fan (no pun intended) and would prefer to stay air-cooled over liquid. Also contemplating upgrading the MOBO to ASUS ROG Max XII Z490. I appreciate your knowledge and vast experience. David Bell.

I have two identical 2Tb m.2 NVMe drives in the box, and am going to clone the main drive to the 2nd drive. The main drive contains P3D and MSFS, and their addons, and a few other programs and games. The usual recommendation is to remove the cloned drive physically prior to booting after the cloning operation. I see it is possible in the BIOS on my MSI motherboard to disable any drives. So my question is, will it be 'safe' to disable the cloned drive in the BIOS, or the main drive when the clone is preferred to boot to, instead of physically removing the 2nd m.2 drive? Thanks!
