Hi im putting together a new system and was wondering if a couple of things still hold true. I plan on canabalising a couple of my drives from the current pc i own which are sata ssd's. (Both samsung ) and my new build will contain an m.2 drive. My question is. Apart from initial loading times are there any real improvements to be had by having my flight sims on the m.2 drive, or should i leave them on the current sata ssd and transfer the drive to the new pc. My os would most likely go on a sata ssd as boot times and general operation are quick enough for my current needs,as the new mobo has 2 m.2 slots i can always add another drive at a later date …

Hello, I plan on buying a laptop for FSX and P3D v4 (I'm not sure, I already have a plenty of paywares for FSX so that's why I want to continue with that old sim). The specs are: - CPU: ryzen 5 4600H up to 4.00 GHz - GPU: nvidia RTX 2060 6GB - RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3200MHz - SSD: 512 GB PCI Express -Display: Full HD IPS 144Hz Antiglare Now I own a notebook and running FSX pretty good honestly (i5 7200U up to 3.1GHz, Intel HD 620, 500GB HDD, 8GB RAM DDR4 2133MHz). The reason I want to change is the low performance using payware scenery, that photorealistic very nice looking graphics. I currently use only ORBX products (not…

Issue: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 crashes to desktop My system: Win10 Pro 20H2 I7-10700K Motherboard: ASUS PRIME Z490-A 32 GB RAM SSD 1TB VGA: RTX 2070 SUPER EVO 8GB VRAM Monitor: GIGABYTE 3440x1440 With my previous display 27’ 1920*1080 my VGA was powerful enough for FS2020. With new one, VGA reaches 100% VRAM usage in high density scenes of FS2020. As a result - crashes to desktop. So, I’m choosing new, more powerful VGA. Two options: RTX 3070 8GB VRAM or RTX 3080 10GB VRAM I need community opinion – Is RTX 3070 8GB VRAM will be powerful enough for FS2020 with my new display?

Starting with what I run: P3D v4.5; PMDG 737 NGXu; Active Sky P3D; Rex Environment Force; FS2Crew; ORBX Global Base Pack; Maybe a half dozen payware airport sceneries from Drzewiezki designs. My system from Jetline: Windows 10 64 bit; MOBO Z390 Aorus Pro wifi LGA 1151; Intel 9th Gen Core i7 9700K (4.9 GHz Turbo) 8 core; Corsair hydro H60 120mm liquid cooling; 16GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super GDDR6; 480GB Corsair Force MP510 NVMe M.2. 3 monitors; main one a Dell 1440p. I feel my sim settings are fairly conservative and I run smoothly, normally in the 30's fps, often much higher depending on the conditions. None of my setting sliders are maxed out. Terrai…

Hi Folks, I know we see these posts a lot, but things change fast around here. Considering todays date, what is the best new build you guys can think of for around $3k, just for the computer alone. No need for monitors et al. Should I go AMD or Intel ? It doesn't need to be exactly 3k, can go over a little bit. I'm just looking forward to finally switching to MSFS after being on FSX for years and years......and years. I built my last pc, but its been nearly 7 years since then. So, if anyone wants to chime in, can you please outline what i'll need for a great new rig to run MSFS on settings almost maxed out. Oh yeah, I'm also interested in getting into VR with this bu…

Good Evening everyone and Happy new Year! It's that time of the year, where I'm about to order a new Rig. I'm doubting if 5900x with 6900xt, or 5900x/10900k OCd with 3090. Both will be on liquid. There will be 32gb ddr4 4000 and 2x NvMe PCI4 plus some other SSDs. Mobo ASUS STRIX Formula or something similar. Anyone has seen any comparison of the 5900x/5950x vs the 10900k on p3d? I will mainly use p3d... and I really don't know how the 6900xt will behave. I'm willing to take a bet but any thoughs? Thanks!

Hi, I m looking for some recommendations for a new set of USB (preferably wired) headset. My TurtleBeach PX22 headset with microphone is beginning to shows signs of age after 6 years so am looking around at what else is out there in the market. Criteria for me are: Headphones primary use is for Windows 10 PC and Flightsim Should be comfortable to wear for time periods lasting 2-3 hrs - padded headband an advantage Good quality microphone for speaking to online ATC, FS2Crew etc, P2ATC USB connection in order to split ATC and other environment sound channels out (prefer wired but not 100% against wireless) Preferably over …

I am running a Home Cockpit with 4 PCs. On one of those clients I am using a number of USB devices, basically all joysticks, throttle, rudder and a few input/output cards. In total around 15 devices on different self powererd USB Hubs. On booting this PC - sometimes - not all devices are identified. For the last weeks everything was ok. Since a fewa days now, the issue is back. The strange thing is, when I then turn all the PC's off and powering up that specific PC again first, all USB devices are usually detected. I already got new USB hubs with more Ampere (5a), but it didn't help. Could the issue be related to the PSU of the PC itself? I haven't checked yet,…

Most of the information has already been leaked several months ago, but now Intel have finally confirmed that the Rocket Lake-S CPU line-up will be based on the Cypress Cove architecture (backport of Sunny Cove/Ice Lake to 14nm). Intel are claiming "double-digit IPC improvements", the leaks suggest ~10%. As expected the line-up will have a maximum of 8 cores and 16 threads, new Xe-LP integrated graphics and PCIe 4.0 support for both the current 400 and the future 500 series motherboards. According to leaks, those CPUs will be able to hit boost clocks of up to 5.5GHz, but will of course consume more power than comparable Comet Lake CPUs. Q1 2021 is the target rel…

Hey everyone. Long time FSXer, finally making the switch to MSFS. Would love some advice. I’m building a new PC and wanted some expert opinions here on the Avsim boards. My goal is to be able to run FS2020 at 1440 in the 30-40 FPS range. I’ve purchased some components but still waiting on others. Here’s what my build is looking like: GPU: RTX 3060 Ti (already purchased) CPU: AMD 5600X or intel i7 10700k MOBO: GIGABYTE B550 AORUS ELITE RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance DDR4 3200MHz 32GB (2 x 16GB) (already purchased) Storage: SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2 1TB SSD (already purchased) Power Supply: CORSAIR RM850x 850W (already purchased) Monitor: A…

So I have P3D v4 and for the most part am ok with the frame rates I get. The only problem I have is that I live in LA which is very dense and if I try to fly out of KLAX I get under 10FPS, so I don't use the airport. What would be the best thing for me to upgrade, so I might be able to get enough FPS to fly around the area without lagging too much? I figure the CPU would probably be the best but don't know what is compatible since I'm not sure what the chipset is. Also, what site do you think has the best prices. My current specs are: CPU: Intel I5 quad core 4460 @ 3.2ghz GPU: Nvidia Geforce 750ti Memory: 12GB 2TB SATA SSD…

Hey All, I am looking to upgrade my PC, specs below. However, It's only 3 years old - so I don't feel the need to upgrade anything other than the SSDs (2012 - which are some 8 years old now) Has anyone got any experience running these on a PCIE 3.0? The 970 Pro's are £70 more expensive each and I need 2 x 1TB (One for OS and Adobe Suite & the other for P3D/FS2020) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-7-000-Internes-Solid-MZ-V8P1T0BW/dp/B08GS7748F Obviously when there's a Mobo/Processor out on Intel that does PCIE4 - It'll be a quick upgrade.

Hi I'm just finalising my new build, which is probably massivley overkill but i don't plan on doing another new system for several years. I'm really happy with my spec but just wondered if i've missed anything that i could add at a later date. Hello, I am eagerly waiting for my new PC to ship later this month. Due to the budget, I only got 1 tb SSD NVme 2 drive. I know the MB can handle 2, so if I want to add one, should I leave windows on the current HD and then install MSFS on the other? Should it be just like the first SSD? Thanks for any help!

Hi I am looking at new gaming laptop with I7 10750H processor. It has to be a laptop and my current rig (specs below) give quite acceptable performance in V5. I have choice of GTX 1660 TI 6GB or for £100 more RTX 2060 6GB (not super). A comparison I found says: Bottom line: there is no clear winner here, but if you can swing it, the GeForce RTX 2060 is still the best upper midrange card (or lower high-end card) that we have seen since the GeForce GTX 1070 Ti. This is especially true if you plan to play at 1440p. However, if you plan to only play at 1080p and/or need to keep the GPU budget under $300, the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti is a very close second. …

It's Noctua's new "fanless" totally silent cooler. But don't be fooled, this guy is still an efficient cooler. https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/noctuas-upcoming-fanless-cpu-cooler-gets-teased-and-promises-not-to-blow/ Might not be enough for the most power hungry CPU on the planet, overclocked to the max, but for those of you not overclocking, and after a silent machine, could be just the job.

Hi all, I don't fly since 2016 or before. I have an i7-2600k processor which is a very old one with more or less 8 years. I stopped in FSX with all addons like Aerosoft, ORBX, FlyTampa, PMDG, AI Traffic, Weather programs and so on. Never used P3D... I want to be back to flightsim, maybe with both P3Dv5 and MSFS, which means I need a new system. No money problems, but if I can stay between 2000 and 3000 euros as a final price, that would be ideal... For this price, I am just counting CPU, Videocard, Motheboard, Memory, Storage devices (at least one for OS and another one Flightsim and other things), Cooling, Case, Power Supply and minor needed things…

Was fixing up a loose M2 drive and after putting everything back together the PC just fails to post. Can see that either the Dram or CPU red led light is coming on on the mobo. Think it's the CPU one. Both were working fine earlier though. I tried using one or the other RAM in all slots but getting the same result. Unfortunately don't have any other RAM I can test with. Don't have anything I can test with the CPU. Is it more likely I've somehow shorted the mobo? Tried removing everything to see if there was any objects inside but couldn't see anything. Any ideas? Thinking I might just bring it to a local shop to help narrowing down the problem.
