Now that my new build is up and running I thought I'd post my initial observations: - As a quick and dirty OC, I used the ASUS built in AI overclock tool. It set me at 5.1 on all cores - In MSFS the recommendation is now for Ultra preset, up from high - On ultra I did three test flights: - ORBX KORS: FPS were in the high 60's and smooth. Previously on high I was getting high 50's low 60's smooth - CYTZ/Downtown Toronto: FPS were in the mid 40's to low 50's, smooth - Torture test time, KLGA and overflying Manhattan: FPS were low 40's and smooth. CPU temps were in the mid 50's, "CPU Package" Temps were 67-68. I'm not sure what the diffe…

What temp ranges are people experiencing? With an AIO 240mm, I get CPU temps running FS2020 of 55-58 C, and coolant temp of 39 C. Anybody else?

Forgive me if this is a dumb question.... I'm looking at a new PC and I'm checking out individual components. The first thing at the top of the list is the I7 107000, but I am a little confused (not a hardware kinda guy!) the specs on the website say 3.80GHz Clock Speed 5.1GHz Single Core Max Turbo So does this mean if I want to run it with turbo switched on, and take it to 5Ghz with the appropriate cooler, it will not run with hyperthreading on and only run on a single core? If this is the case, it makes a bit of a mockery of things doesn't it? Advice appreciated, thanks.

Hi all, I'm still rocking an old 5960X overclocked to 4GHz on all cores with a GTX980 and 32GB of RAM. FS2020 actually runs ok at 1080p on ultra, I get a solid 30fps in most areas and 20-30fps in larger cities. I've recently borrowed an ultrawide monitor however, and 3440x1440 is unplayable at under 10fps with heavy scenery. With the RTX3000 series on the horizon, I'm wondering if a GPU upgrade makes sense to tide me over, or will the CPU be a bottleneck? Is anyone out there running one of these older 8-core chips with a 1080 or 2080? Just wondering how this chip scales with faster GPU's. I'd like to hold off on upgrading the rest of my system for at least 6 mon…

Think I found my laptop. It's an msi raider 75 17 inch i7-10 and rtx 2070 super. I have been doing lots of research so I hope this is the one to get. I don't know if msfs requires different specs and requirements than a regular shooter type game. So it's kind of tough to find a review that specifically mentions using msfs. Do you think that this will run the game with lots of future addons.

Well the excitement over my new build was short lived. I got everything assembled after far too many hours, and when I went for my first boot up to my surprise the computer turned on as soon as i flicked the power switch on the back, without me using the power button up front. Then it turned off a few seconds later, then on, then off etc. There was a click each time it turned on and off. The only way to get it to stay off was to kill the power with the rear button. Any ideas? A google search netted me mainly topics where it wouldn’t boot or it booted then shutdown, but I couldn’t find much about continuous power cycling or the computer turning on without pressin…

A common question I know. My motherboard only takes DDR3, so any increase is limited. I currently have 4x4 gig 1600. The question is would I see any benefit upgrading to 4x4 2400 or 2x8 2400. V5 runs well. My only nuisance problem is the texture loading, changing from inside views to outside and back. Does RAM affect that? Thanks for any input.

My old machine is running P3D 4.5 very well at the moment but I can't help but wonder if I increased the 8gb ram to 16 or 32 if it would help scenery loading? (primarily ORBX) I have 4 ram slots with 2 slots currently filled with GSKILL Ripjaws V 8GB (4GBx2). I would like to keep the budget to under $100 if possible and supplement the two 4gb cards with two more identical ram cards. I'm not the sharpest guy when it comes to computer internals so is this a wise, viable plan, or is there a better way to spend the money I have budgeted? I have a Verizon router. Since this game/sim is downloading data while we fly would a better router help? I assume some routers are faster than others. I know nothing about routers. What make of routers do you pilots use? As long as it doesn't cost more than $300. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What's more important for a top performance in this new SIM? GPU, with 6gb/8gb? CPU, with 5mhz + RAM 16 or 32 and what speed SSD? Or PCIE at 600 oops? Is the sim CPU dependent like FSX. Or GPU dependent? What would people choose if upgrading from a 7 year old FSX PC? Thanks.

I currently have the following key components in my rig: CPU: Intel i5 6600K GPU: NVIDIA GTX1070 RAM: Corsair 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 2666MHz CL16 Vengeance LPX CPU Cooler: be quiet! Pure Rock PSU: Corsair CX650M I bought the new MSFS2020 and find that the CPU is under a very heavy load and I don't get the nice simming experience that I'm looking for. I have a couple of questions before a potential upgrade to a new CPU: 1) Will I benefit of going for the i7 10700K instead of the i5 10600K? I don't run any other very CPU demanding applications on my computer. 2) The GPU load is not 100% in MSFS, even at very high graphics settings. Most …

My system is dated but surprisingly not all that bad at least I tend to think so. I built it back in 2013 with at the time was considered upper high end hardware for the most part. Pretty much all I have done with it is play FSX and P3D and it worked very well with these programs. Looked at building a new dream system for FS2020 but quickly hit $2,000 and still had more stuff to buy for a completely new build. Since I am currently unemployed over Covid 19 such a build is currently a fantasy. So my main priority will be an interim system upgrade so I an run FS2020 minimally then in 6 months to a year when everything blows over and hardware gets a bit better I will the…

I am uprgading my RAM to 32GB. I have now 2 8GB 2400MHz. Is it worth the money to upgrade all 32GB to faster RAM or just add another 16GB? Is there a noticable benefit from faster ram? My MB is MSI Z270-A PRO, it supports up to 3800MHz. Thanks!

Hey gust upgraded to the i7 10700k O/C to 4.8ghz GTX 1070ti stock 16GB corsair lpx ram at 2400mhz. For the first time even i o/c the ram to 3000mhz at stock voltage (1.200) and it seems to be working well. im looking to O/C the 1070ti, ive heard it can run well close to 1080 performance, anyone ever done this before ? Im hoping the 10700k is good enough for fs2020 as we are super close to release now. thanks

Hello fellow avsimers... I’m pondering an upgrade in the next little while and I constantly read that building is much cheaper than buying a pre-built. I’m not so sure about that, I went to newegg and would pick out a couple pre-built packages, I would then individually price the components and the math doesn’t add up that it’s noticeably cheaper? Example, A pre-built I was looking at was roughly 2k. The Gpu in the system alone is 1000-1100$? Then you have to add In the time it takes to build Which essentially can be worth something as well. How is building cheaper than buying a pre-built on say newegg? I must be missing something.

Hi guys I bought a new rig a few months back and I got one that could be overclocked to increase performance. I have never overclocked before so as you can imagine I wish some advice before touching anything. I got a Gigabyte Z390 motherboard which has an Intel i5 9600KF processor. 16GB RAM and an Nvidia Geforce RTX2070 graphics card. Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks

Hi all! I've been reading some other threads, but haven't found an answer, so I'm posting a new thread. (Sorry if I missed this somewhere) I bought a CyberPower computer for MSFS2020. It shipped with a SSD 250GB and a good ol' spinny 1TB sata HD. I just ordered a 1TB PCI NVME of Amazon. Seems like the prices on these are starting to be more reasonable. As I understand, I shouldn't have any issue running all 3, but my question is, would it be better to move MSFS2020 to the NVME, and leave the OS on the SSD? (I don't have discs to reformat, so I'm not sure and haven't researched how to reinstall or move the OS to the new drive) In the old…

Hi, I read from time to time that AMD chips operate rather instable compared to Intel. A friend of mine said that AMD is rather for people who like to experiment like linux users. Is this statement still true in 2020? Will you get headache when buying a AMD system compared to Intel?

I have an i4790k since about 2009 and looking to upgrade to AMD 3900. I was thinking of building all new, but like the case it is in. I was wondering if I can re-use my CORSAIR HX Series HX750 750W power supply https://www.newegg.com/corsair-hx-series-hx750-750w/p/N82E16817139010?Item=N82E16817139010 with x570 motherboard? That power supply probably got barely 4 hours of use a month for the last 11 years.

Yes it's a stupid question but I'm new to gaming PCs. I have about 1.5 TB free out ot 1.81 TB (D: Disk) (HDD) and 174 GB free out of 232 GB (C: Disk) (SSD). the requirements in steam says I must have 150 GB free storage, so by downloading it on the SSD would it work smoothly or not ? cause I might be wrong but won't the game download additional files while playing it as we will use live tracking for the weather and other stuff like that so it might exceed the 150 GB over time? or should I just download it in the HDD to be safe ? I am planning to buy the premium deluxe edition if that makes a difference, these are my PC specs: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit CPU: Int…
