  1. Hi, I was interesting in getting some recommendations for motherboards. My 6 year old flight sim computer died, so need to build a new one. I have normally went the Intel route, but a friend suggested looking at AMD, so I am considering a 3700X to save a little bit on the total $$$ for the build. From what I have read, the current AMD's perform well and there isn't the huge performance gap that used to exist. I also am looking at an RTX 2070 Super for the GPU. On the FS side, the computer will be primarily for the new MSFS and P3Dv4 (had not upgraded to v5 prior to my crash). I also had FS9 on the old pc... not sure if I will reload that. Will also d…

  2. Hi all, I'd really appreciate some opinions. I currently have an Alienware Aurora R5 which has an i7-6700K, GTX1080 and 16gb of 2133mhz memory. I am not able to upgrade anything on the system except for the storage which I have already done. It does a good job with P3D but I believe it may be time to replace it. I use it with a Dell U3415W monitor which runs 1440p. A friend shared the following possible replacement... Alienware Aurora R10 Ryzen which has a 3900X, 5700RX and 32gb of 2933mhz memory. Most importantly it has some upgrade possibilities and much newer hardware so hopefully better performance for P3D and FS2020. I have always stayed with nvid…

I guess yet another upgrade question... But need really some basic advice after having read many posts. My system is relatively old (spare the details on the SSD and HDD): i2600K OC 4.4 Ghz 16 Gb RTX2070 Cooler : Noctua NH-D14 I intend to upgrade in the next 6 months. I have seen the option to go with Intel (10900K) or Ryzen processors Obviously new motherboard and 32 GB But, importantly, I would like to keep the current Win 10 installation and not re-install everything on the PC so reusing case and other hardware (e.g. cooler). Which configuration would you suggest aiming at the best hardware minus one of two notch …

Windows 10 Professional (64-bit) Memory (RAM): 16338 MB CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz CPU Speed: 3397.7 MHz Display Adapters: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 Motherboard: Intel Corporation DQ67SW I run all of the usual add-ons. PMDG, ActiveSky, Orbx, Airport Sceneries, GSX etc. I bought my PC second-hand a few years ago and it was not intended for flight simming. I have the sliders around medium to low and usually get around 20 fps in the flight deck and 30-40 fps (limited) outside. Although at some of the larger airports the frames drop below 15 fps, which is especially annoying on the approach. Ideally I'd like to have a steady 20 f…

My original P3D build was a decent setup back then and I always said I was going to upgrade it a few years in but never did. Now with the new FS coming out I want to get a good system (maybe not top of the line but up there). I'm trying to follow the sales to see if I can save a few bucks so I'm wondering what I should be looking for. Is the i9 1090k the best CPU available right now for FS? Looks like the 1070k is good as well for a lot less money. I'll be waiting for the 3000 series GPU to come out as it appears performance is solid pending pricing RAM is there anything specific I should be looking for? Read on another post that anything above …

Hi, I want to build a new system for MSFS and different windows applications that I use. The most hardware intense besides flightsim would be rendering HD vidz. I would like to use this thread for random question to avoid starting a new thread for every new question. Right now, I am looking for a case and wondering if it's smart idea to spend a bit more like 160 euros / 190 USD for it. Is it worth paying that much when you consider using it a long time for hardware upgrades etc? It's important to me, that the case operates quietly or is able to make the hardware not hearable. How is the be Quiet! Dark Base 900 ATX? Are there alternatives?

Hey all, i would like to hugely upgrade my *very old* PC. I am using P3D at the moment, but its kinda safe that im going to switch to MSFS once its out. I am thinking about this hardware components: CPU: i7-10700k or i7-9700k (not 100% sure yet) Power Supplies: bequiet! Straight Power 11 650W ATX 2.4 Mainboard: MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Plus (not 100% sure, depends also on the CPU) CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 Memory: 2x Corsair Vengeance LPX black 16GB, DDR4-3200, CL16-18-18-36 Graphic Card: I still got a 1070 and would like to wait with a new buy of a card until the 3000er series is out SSD: Samsung 970 EVO 500GB, M.2 (got another 500GB SSD already)…

Before I begin, let me start by acknowledging that laptops are and always will be inferior to desktops, worse value, and next to impossible to upgrade. 😶 For my circumstances however, a laptop is the only option really as I plan on moving around a bit in the next couple years and lugging around a desktop setup to other continents isn't an option. 🧳 That's why I am not investing any money in my current desktop setup in anticipation of FS2020 and am instead researching what laptop to purchase. I wouldn't say I have a tight budget, I'm definitely looking for an RTX 2080 graphics card, but I also am not willing to part with €4000+ for a Razer Blade Pro 17. The…

Aloha this is Apoapsis requesting help to build a simulator. I am a coder but I am only a software guy. I know how to put pcs together but I have never picked out the parts before. The computer I am building is for a friend who is ex airforce so he wants his rig to be top notch. He runs flight sim on it and nothing else. He has played every flight sim since dos, and he wants to completely max out the sim. He tells me that for each of the previous versions of flight sim that they continually release updates or patches which beef up the game play requirement at max settings. He wants a rig that will be able to handle all of the upgrades continually for 2020 flight…

My current system is: CPU - i5 4690 ; RAM - 16Gb 1666Mhz DDR3 ; a very old motherboard ; GPU - Nvidia GTX 1060 Gaming ED Using CS 767 (a frame rate consumer) and getting about 25 fps with cloudy weather, default scenery and most sliders set at LOW to MEDIUM using P3D v4.5. I am looking at upgrading to: CPU - i7 10700; new MB Gigabyte B460M; RAM - 16Gb 3200MHz DDR4 and keeping the GTX 1060 Will this give me a decent increase in fps using CS767 with higher graphic settings? I am not able to upgrade the graphics card at this time. Trevor

  14. My build is a few years old: i7-6700K, GTX 980 TI, 16GB ram, a bunch of 256 GB SSDs, BenQ 4K monitor For MSFS 2020, the specs are right around what they're recommending, but I'd like to upgrade in the next year. If I were to upgrade now, I'd be looking at: CPU: 10700K, 10900K, or Ryzen 3900X GPU: 2070 Super 16-32 GB Ram 1TB SSD Sounds like it might be worth waiting for the 3070/80 (or for the prices to drop on the 2070/80). I could also wait for prices to come down on the Intel chips or for the Ryzen 4000 series. Any thoughts? I could get a larger SSD now, and wait on everything else. Or just upgrade the CPU/mobo now and wa…

Hi fellas, I've not been around thje forum for a while, and to be honest, I have not been doing very much simming either. After 12 years, the flame of FSX and P3D has been fading. However, with the newly to be relased MSFS2020 on the horizon, it has certainly stirred in me some small excitement. With this in mind, I have decided, depending on advice received, whether to upgrade my hardware or not. I'm currently running and i7 6700 with 16gb of RAM and a 1080ti. There is no real advantage IMO of replacing the fantastic 1080ti, certailny not with a 2080ti which would require a mortgage, rediculous price! Anyhow, I may, yet to be convinced upgrade the RAM to 32Gb, will have …

  16. Hello, I’m planning to upgrade from my current i7 7700k to the i9 10900k whenever I can actually buy one (Intel, take my money!) In the meantime, i was looking at a ram upgrade from 16gb to 32gb for my current rig assuming I could use it in my new setup. I’d likely buy my new motherboard at the same time so i have it. Based on what I can figure out, both my current Z270 and future Z490 motherboards use DDR4 ram. My question is, within the realm of DDR4 ram, would ram generally be compatible with both Or would the new chipset likely drive the need for different ram? Before buying I’ll of course check the motherboard manufacturer’s compatibility list but before…

  17. I heard that the 30xx series ampere GPU may require a new PSU with a new 12 pin connection. I really hope this isn't the case, as I just bought a brand new PSU and expensive cablemod replacement cables for my new build. I just hope we can just run our existing 2x6 pins into the GPU instead. I don't see why NVIDIA needs to do this, it's totally unecessary. It reminds me of Intel where they make ppl upgrade motherboards every time they release a new CPU. This is ridiculous.

  24. Hello everyone. I´ve just ordered a 1 TB SATA III SSD drive, to replace the 256 GB SATA III SSD I currently have in my laptop. It will be used for storage (documents, music, installers), FSX-Steam and XP11. Windows 10 is in a M2 SSD that won't be affected by this change. In NickN's Bible, he says that "mechanical hard drives that are NOT Windows drives can be formatted to 64K File Allocation". When formatting the SSD for using it, do you have any recommendations, or the default values are OK?

Hi All I am possibly looking into upgrading my gaming laptop, I’m currently using a Asus ROG GL502VSK (7700HQ, 1070, 16GB Ram), and the primary use will be P3DV5 with an eye on the upcoming MSFSThe decision I have is that I am quite keen on the 2070 Super but due to OEM restrictions that essentially ties me to Intel and the 10875H which I know is a great processor. However I can get a configuration that has the desktop AMD 3700X or the 3900 processor but is only available with the standard 2070 So I just wanted to hear people’s thoughts on whether they would go for the stronger CPU or stronger GPU?
