Hi there, I'm looking to upgrade my system in the upcoming weeks in order to a) improve performance in P3D v4 (I just bought v5 and ran out of vram straight away and it was so buggy; very regretful) and b) get myself more inline for the MFS2020 specs. My current build: i5-6500 GTX 1050Ti 16GB RAM 1TB SSD I'm looking to upgrade both my CPU to an i7-9700k and my GPU to a 2070 but I can only do one at a time. So, do I go for the CPU (+ mobo) upgrade or the GPU upgrade? I have no idea what to do! Thank you :)

  4. Looking to run MS Flight Sim with Prepar3D. Primary focus of this machine will be for Flight Sim. Going to download advanced scenery of USA / and alot of add on airplanes. I have about 250 gig of other movies / files / etc that will be in addition to the computer. Looking to spend $1500, $2000 tops for all the parts. Not afraid to buy a prebuilt either, but ideally would prefer to build individually. What would you recommend?

  5. I decided to get a 1TB nvme SSD for my main Windows drive on my new build. Do you guys recommend I partition it or use the entire drive? I'm not sure what to do. I heard that partitioning it and installing windows solely on its own partition will make it easier to perform clean installs later if need be without losing all your data. My new system will have a 1TB nvme SSD as my main Windows/Program and Apps/Downloads/Documents/Pictures drive, a 2TB SATA SSD for games, and a 4TB HDD as a backup drive. I also heard that I should be using GPT (GUID Partition table) vs MBR format for all my drives if possible. Just want to get it right the first time, so would like t…

Hello, hopefully I can get advise here as I am pretty shocked by my current CPU temps. I'm using P3D v4.5 with a 1080ti and an i7 9700k at STOCK speeds. Before moving to a 4K screen temps were 70C-85C (I have an Arctic freezer fan cooler, did not bother to buy a fancy cooler since I am not overclocking the CPU) However in a test flight using my new 4K screen all cores went up to the max of 100C! I am using coretemp to capture the temperatures. 1. Does the above make sense even if I'm not OCing? 2. What is the recommended cooler from your experience and what change in temp should I expect? 100C as a starting point is already too high... …

  7. I had my 8700K delidded for me about 18 months ago. I have overclocked to 4.8 and have been running without any issues all this time, on liquid cooling with Corsair H115. Recently (somewhat coincidental to the install of P3D v5), I have noticed my temps are running higher ..... cores reaching 80 to 82 C before falling back into the 70's while flying.....and all of a sudden I am getting CTD for P3D v4 which had not crashed once since install. There are several culprits but one is ntdll.dll which I know is suspected of happening with unstable overclock. So my question is this...does the liquid metal degrade over time?.....I sitll have a tube of Arctic Silver so should I…

Hi all! So this is my first post on AVSIM. I've been an avid simmer for years, but I had been running FSX (along with a medley of addons) at about 15 FPS on a 2015 Lenovo desktop until 2017 when the processor literally melted. Three years later, I've bitten the bullet and bought a pre-built PC (my tech skills aren't quite up to building one myself). The specs are: AMD Ryzen 5 3400G - 4-Core 3.7GHz, 4.2GHz Turbo 1TB Seagate BarraCuda SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 7200RPM 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4/3000mhz ASUS A320M-K: M-ATX Motherboard 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU630 2.5" SSD GeForce GTX 1660 - 6GB Obviously not looking for any criticism or suggestions …

  9. Hello. I´m planning to Setup a new Rig for P3D v4.5 and the upcoming FS2020. The Flightsimulator will be used exclusively in VR ( Oculus Rift S ). The PC itself will serve as a platform for Flightsimulators only, no other Applications will be run on this System. Primary, the Simulator will be used in conjunction with PMDG 747 / FS2Crew / complex Scenery ( Airports ) / Active Sky / Ultimate Traffic 2, so basically in a classic Airliner-Environment. At present, my System consists of the following Components: i7 4770k MSI Z45 Gaming 16GB RAM Gigabyte 980ti 6GB VRAM WIN10 1803 The Performance with the current Syste…

After some advice as a noob please. i9 9900K, Noctua NH-D15, MSI Z390 Gaming Plus, RTX2070 8GB Super, 16GB 3200Mhz RAM, Corsair TX750M. I have been reading and watching plenty of information on OC'ing the 9900K and i have successfully OC'd my last 6600k to 4.5Ghz previous to this. Problem i have is the CPU VCore seems to be pretty high under load (OCCT, Cinebench, Intel XTU) and i don't really know why when i have set the CPu Vcore manually in the BIOS. Also i am stuck at 4.9Ghz and cannot get to 5.0Gz without freezing seconds into OCCT. Current OC settings where i am stable but the VCore getting high. CPU Ratio - 49 Ring Ratio - 46 AVX offset…

  12. Since my computer crashed few months ago, will be getting new setup in July I have been flying for at least last 15 yrs with Fsx. In the past I have always been an intel buyer I do plan on overclocking, is there any reason why I should use a Ryzen processor over an intel 10700k or even a 10900k ?

  13. I'm thinking of upgrading my computer for FS2020, currently I have 16GB ram and the GTX 980Ti graphics card. I was thinking of upgrading my ram to 32GB and leave my graphic card as is, as new cards seem to be very expensive. A few questions I was hoping someone could help me understand, the 32GB ram, in theory that should help the game run faster/smoother, while a new graphic cards would allow me to run on better settings. Are there upgraded graphics cards that are more cost effective (I'm new to figuring this stuff out and trying not to be awed by all the shiny new cards!). If I had to pick on or the other, is RAM the first priority and then graphic cards? Appr…

I have an i7-8700 oc/d to 4.7 and a GTX 108ti overclocked which provides adequate frames in both P3Dv4 and P3Dv5. For several years I've been running the HT off thinking this would hold down heat while running the simulator. But today I read that running with HT off makes no difference since P3D is a 64 bit program. Will turning HT back on increase the heat, and is there any advantage having it back on as far as P3D is concerned? Thanks.

  15. With MSFS 2020 coming later this year I am starting to think about a new system, one that doesn't kill the budget but also at ideal specs provided by MS. Question, is there any difference between the i-7 9800x and the i-9 9900k? Thanks for any input?

Ideally I’m after a PC that can give me good performance with addons etc (good quality aircraft and scenery) So. The investigations have begun. And from looking on Chillblast, a good bundle has been found. But I’m unsure if the specs will give what I’m after. Can anyone shed some insight on this set up? Hey guys, I'm looking to build a new PC for P3D - am about to graduate college and have nothing to do for the summer so I feel like this is as good a time as any. I wanted to know you guys' thoughts on this build - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Dv69p8. I'm trying to keep costs in the $1000-$1200 range. I'm hoping to run P3D V5 well (and MSFS 2020 in the future) with addons and decent but not super crazy performance. What do you guys think? Any help is appreciated!

  24. MSI MPG Gaming Edge mobo w/ an AMI BIOS. I'm experimenting w/ the idea of running P3D's main thread at 5gHz, and the texture loader logical processors in an HT enabled 9900K at around 4200mHz or so, and this practice to reduce total heat is all. I can choose the Per Core option in O/C Expert settings, enter clock speeds per core, but when I get to the desktop they're all running at the lower clock speed of 4200mHz. There must be a trick to getting the Per Core option to work because it is an option after all, but don't know what that is. SpeedStep is enabled as is TurboBoost, though I don't know if the latter matters since I set the clockspeed manually. Thanks in…

  25. Please take the poll to post what vCore it took to achieve stability in P3D for your 9900K@5Ghz. Not 5.1Ghz or other, but 5.0Ghz please. Round up to the next 100ths of a volt please. I thought I had it nailed down but had a couple of what appeared to be overclocking-related crashes just in the past week and would like to know what it took to achieve stability in P3D.
