Hi, I am new to this forum. Up until now I've been playing FSX Steam Edition on my Surface Pro 4 (i5, 256GB model) which, as you can probably imagine, is not exactly an ideal setup. I cannot push the graphics too high and the device gets very hot during use, which surely cannot be good for it. I have therefore begun to investigate self building a PC to use instead. However, I do not have the required funds to splurge on the highest quality components such as Core i7's, high end graphics cards, feature-packed motherboards etc, so I have compiled the below list of more "budget-friendly" components which, according to my own research, I believe would still meet my requi…

I'm deciding whether or not I should spend $200 on a PFC UPS for my new computer. There have been times when the power randomly goes out while I'm using my computer and that really scares me because I'm afraid of data loss and file corruption and possibly hardware damage. With that being said, I plan on getting the Cyberpower units, probably the 1500 model, not sure if I should get PFC or AVR models. The former is more expensive and pure sinewave and the latter is simulated. Not really sure if there's any benefit of spending more for the PFC model over the AVR. My last UPS unit from them lasted me about 3+ years before it died out on me. Do the majority of you g…

Downloaded MSFS. It's truly a beautiful sim in all the ways FSX never was. I'm looking at components now for a new build. This will be my first, and I'm approaching it with enough budget to go a little overboard. I don't play anything else so this will be 100% a flight sim rig, and I'd like to optimize it for that. Has MSFS fixed the Intel preference that FSX always had? It may not have been true in all cases, but everyone I knew who built for FSX always said that AMD's chips just don't run as well as Intel. Given the price/performance of the Ryzens now, though, I'd 100% go that route if both will perform equally well. Here's what I have so far on the par…

Just got another 16GB (2x8GB) to bring me to 32GB of DDR4 3200. At $58 prime on Amazon for a set of g.skill ripjaws (what I already had) shipped to my door by Saturday, there's really no reason to fight with 16GB. I was thinking upgrading would be around $120 but the prices have apparently dropped a ton. If you were thinking it'd be too expensive to do right now, maybe revisit.

Hi guys, I know the difference between the two, but I’m more interested in seeing what your guys thoughts are on whether there would be enough or any improvement picking up a Nvme drive for MSFS over a SATA SSD? I know load times are improved for other sims but how about actual in game performance/loading? Thanks!

Another question please. I7 8700k running on an Asus ROG Hero board, 32Gb RAM, liquid cooled. Asus AI suite has the CPU oc’d 32%. While running P3Dv4.5 my CPU usage fluctuates between 60-80%, averaging around 60-70%. The temperature varies between 62-80c averaging in the 62-75 range. My frames are locked at 32 and remain consistent on the flight deck at 29-32 even at add on airports with AIG traffic. I realize this is good. But does anyone know if this is too much stress for the CPU running for 4+ hour flights - should I back the oc settings down a bit? Would it better to ask on an Asus board where they aren’t as familiar with P3D. Thanks for your help on my vari…

Would someone recommend a good temperature monitor for my i7 8700k. I'm not concerned about an overclocker since that's already been done. Simply a CPU, and perhaps GPU and even motherboard, monitor that preferably can be placed in the corner when running P3D v4 or v5 in full screen mode. Thanks.

Hello, I am about due to upgrade my 5 year old system. I have an I7-4790 processor with a GeForce 1080TI I have a B737-800 homecockpit, with Prosim737. I have three 2K 32" monitors, clocked at 30 Hz, and it is quite good while on the air. But a lot of screen tearing while at the airports taxing. I am planning on getting one of the new I9 processors, and a 3080 TI as soon as it gets out. I have a question since I have seen two different processors for the i9-10900 one is a a 2.8 Ghz and the other a 3.7 Ghz. Both advertise their Turbo Boost Speed as 5.2 Ghz. Is this correct? What would be the difference then in buying one over the other? T…

Hey everyone Up to this point I’ve had 2 SSD.S (PNY 480GB). As well as a WD 1TB HD. I had one if my SSD,s for the OS. Another for P3Dv5 and the 1TB HD for XPlane and as a storage driver. I purchased an M2 SSD (for MSFS 512GB Intel). As soon as installed it and turned my PC on I started getting a BOOT error. The error would not go away so I was forced to re install windows. But then after doing all of that I noticed my bios was not detecting one of my SSD,s. So I went to the partition manager. Unplugged the SATA for the one that is missing and then it appeared. I formatted The SSD then changed it’s letter. Now the original SSD that was being detected is not…

Saw it on buildapcsales https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232218 Going for a good mid-top tier build once the new sim comes out. Does this fit the bill? Ram still confuses me a bit but I’m trying to read up.

Hello, After using pretty modest systems for the last couple of decades, I decided to do something I've never done and upgrade to a high-end gaming machine. The performance in P3Dv5 doesn't feel much different from my old system, however, so I'm wondering what I should do boost my FPS/performance. Right now I'm getting around 25-30 FPS at Orbx airports. Specs: Are my settings just too ambitious? I was thinking this system would be able to handle anything I threw at it, so I'm interested to know what I'm doing wrong, or if 25-30 FPS is the best I can hope for at demanding add-on airports.

I'm wanting to put all of my P3dv5 stuff onto a new M2 ssd. Both ssd's are Samsung. There is cloning software available to move from one to the other. My question is would it be better to delete P3d from the smaller ssd and reinstall on the M2 or give the cloning software a shot. My gut tells me to reinstall. Thanks in advance, Bill W

I'm scratching my head on this one... My Mobo is a gigabyte aorus gaming 7 v1.0 with the original bios installed. I bought it October ish 2017. I upgraded from corsair vengence RAM (16GB 2x8GB DDR4 3000 MHz 1.35v) to... G.SKILL ripjaws V (32GB 2x16GB DDR4 3200 MHz 1.35v) When I put in the new sticks, the PC wouldn't post with a C1 error code. All it would do was cycle on and off. I switched out each new stick of RAM and put in its place an old stick. When I did this, it posted. I was able to go through this process to find that one stick would consistently be a problem. I thought, ok, this sucks but I will just go back to microce…

Hi all First of all sorry if this in the wrong place. I’ve currently got a 4790k 4.0Ghz, 16 GB and 1070. I’m holding off until release to see what mileage I can get out of my current PC but I know I’m due an upgrade. I was waiting in particular for the release of MSFS to gauge the requirements. I don’t for one minute believe the recommended or ideal specs. I am in a fortunate position that I can shell out up to £2500 on a new PC just for the base unit, no monitors etc. I will be using a 1080P resolution and I'm not a graphics junkie, I would like to fly HIGH settings with all the bells and whistles turned on - if my new rig allows ULTRA with 30FPS or higher…
