  1. Hi, I am looking for any advice from anyone who is willing to offer me some. Thanks. I am going to build a new PC by the end of this month. Mostly for MSFS and maybe DCS. I was planning on buying an AMD 5800x (8 cores) but I am now thinking of going with my former plan of buying an Intel 10850k (10 cores). I might be wrong, but since I only have experience with Intel cpus in the past, I am more comfortable with Intel, but I would get AMD if you think it's more worthwhile. I am worried about the availability of the 5800X in a few weeks, too. I have a microcenter nearby so I can easily get the 10850K for $400 instead of the 5800X at $450. Can anyone fau…

  2. Looking to try and take advantage of some Amazon Prime deals and looking at a new MOBO and CPU. I found this Prime Deal on a AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT packaged with a MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk MOBO. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08K3FDVWS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1 One of the guys in my iRacing group recommended looking at an i5-10600K since it has faster processing speed and will save me some money. https://www.amazon.com/Intel-i5-10600K-Desktop-Processor-Unlocked/dp/B086MHSH2C/ref=mp_s_a_1_17?dchild=1&keywords=10600k&qid=1602637106&sr=8-17 I'm clueless when it comes to computer hardware. https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2020-10-08-amd-announces-ryzen-5000-desktop-cpus-to-challenge-intels-gaming-dominance "AMD claims that their new processors offer better single-threaded performance - and therefore better gaming performance - than Intel's best parts, and that would be an exciting turnaround if it's borne out in testing. In Cinebench R20's single-threaded benchmark, AMD showed the flagship 5900X beating out the Core i9 10900K by a significant margin - 544 vs 631, a 16 per cent advantage." Certainly interesting.

Anyone know if the new Radeon 6000 will be as good as RTX 3080 for MSFS 2000. It seems that the RTX card is impossible to find, the Radeon cards will be cheaper and hopefully more available.

So I am really excited as I have permission this year to actually get a Flight sim PC from my better half as we had no holidays this year due to lockdown. This means I can go top of range (well for me). I'm not interested in VR but do want to go 4k. Should I wait a month or so to see what the AMD 5950 and 6000 combo is like compared to the i9 10900 and 3090 route, or does anyone have any info yet that would help? I understand the 5950 is not released until 5th November but I have been so out of touch with "good" PC's for a while now that I would welcome any input. Regards Graham

Is there a utility where you plug something into a USB port in order to see what version the USB port is. Like USB 3.1, USB 3.2 Gen 2, etc?

I have always built my own computers but as time goes by, have lost a little confidence in getting the right choice. Any advice would be welcome. I hope each component fits the other components to provide a solid machine based around Microsofts recommended requirements but also minimizing the cost to around £400. I shall be using my current hard drives, case and power supply. 8. NZXT.com's configurator shows AMD Ryzen 9 3950X (16-Core 3.5GHz) with NVIDIA RTX 3070 would provide 61 FPS at 2560x1440, but if I switch to Intel Core i9-9900K (8-Core 3.6 GHz) I'd get greater performance (66 FPS). Is this true? Does this mean MSFS is better optimized for Intel chips?

I am running out of drive space on my rig. I have a M2 slot on my mobo as well as another hard drive tray open. I found a SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2 2280 500GB at a price I can afford and it's only about $10-15 more expensive than an equivalent storage SSD. I'd like to migrate my Orbx installation over to a drive setup that would give the fastest and smoothest loading. What's the best way to achieve this? Do I clone my OS and P3D install to the new M2 or do I use the M2 strictly for my Orbx and other scenery? current specs: Win7 Pro 64 · CPU: Intel® Core™ Processor i7-6700K 4.00GHZ 8MB Intel Smart Cache LGA1151 (Skylake) · CPU / Processor …

I bought a Seagate HDD and thought it would be just simple plug and play. Its an IronWolf 8 TB Internal HDD listed as NAS 3.5 inch SATA 6Gb/s, 7200 RPM 256 MB cache for RAID network attached storage. Is this drive somehow ONLY for use in a special context related to networking and RAID? I just thought it would work as a stand alone drive for data storage? Is there something special I need to do to get this puppy working? My reading says that I should be able to use this drive simply for data storage just like any other drive. Bryan

It might not happen, but 80% sure I'm going to opt for a custom loop in my next build. Not far away. Not going for rigid tubing or any of that stuff, will be black flexible tubing. Being a custom loop noob, what do you recommend for best manufacturers for tubing, reservoirs, radiators, fittings? Will be a D5 pump no doubt, so any advice on that front welcome too. Not sure if it will be the EVGA RTX 380 ( if it ever arrives) and CPU to cool or just the CPU. Might be a Ryzen 5900X. MIGHT be a Mini ITX build but not sure yet. Any advice from Mr Freeze or anyone else who's a bit of a custom loop expert welcomed.

To all our I.T. Experts out there.....I have an Nvidia 1080ti, 11GB. I love the card, but I still get an eventual breakdown in P3dV5 after flying continually for over 200 miles or so. I also have 32GB of Corsair DDR4 SDRAM - 3000MHz. Members of this forum know that I have voiced this concern several times in search of a solution. I use an Intel 8th Gen Core i7 8700K six core processor (overclocked 4.8GHz). I was wondering if there is some tweak or step one can take to reduce VRAM usage or execute a specific setting that would help me with this eventual V5 breakdown. My breakdown is characterized by plane textures disappearing and then stuttering/pausing so inten…

  15. Instead of getting a 2nd display or screen since I have very little space on my desk, I'd like to get a laptop mainly for flight planning software such as PFPX, aivlasoft EFB, Little Navmap, Simtoolkit Pro, moving maps to be used alongside with MSFS 2020. 17. I got my MSI x570 Unify but it came damaged so I returned it. I see that the new Asus ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Dark Hero will be available the first week of Nov. and wondered if this would be a better way to go. It is about $80.00 more but seems it has everything I would need for my MSFS build. I will only have two 1 Tb M.2 drives (operating system & MSFS 2020) and two SATA (1Tb & 2Tb) for backup and storage. The SATA drives will be updated when needed. This will be my last rebuild for a long time so trying to get a decent system together. I will get a Asus TUF 3080 20Gb when available and a AMD 5900X for the CPU. Both motherboards would be fine but…

Hi, Currently looking at purchasing a PC exclusively for flight sim. At the moment it will be for flying the FSLabs airbus series in P3D V5, with the obvious upgrade to FS2020 at some point in the near future. I'll be running P3D on a single monitor at 1024x1024. I'll be getting the 10700K, but I'm stuck deciding between the 1080ti, 2080s and 2080ti. What does everyone think? I've heard that the benefit from the 1080ti to the 2080ti is marginal in P3D, and the price difference is huge... Thanks, Oliver Mitchell.

I have an entry level gaming pc. It is a Ryzin 5 3600. Asus motherboard. Came 8 gigabytes of DDR4 SDRAM @ 3000 mhz. So I would like to try out Xplane 11 or even the new FS 2020 for Christmas. I know I need more ram to run either well. My question is would my DDR4 SDRAM be 280 pin? Could I buy 16 gigs and put them in with 8 gig stick I have? Thank you.

Hey guys, So I've been a member of the flightsim community for 15+ years now, and have spent that time tweaking and building custom PC's predominantly geared towards running FS. Infact, its my love of FS and aviation that got me into PC hardware in the first place, since our builds are some of the only ones out there aside from workstations that really really do benefit from top end hardware and overclocking, both on the cpu, ram, and gpu side. I've been working on growing my youtube channel Hardware Lens, its focus is on reviewing PC hardware, testing games and flight simulators, and showcasing custom builds. The time has come to retire my 4790k. I have decided to switch to AMD and the Zen 3 looks pretty impressive. In terms of processor work out, MSFS2020 is going to be the big test for my new rig. I know they aren’t out yet so haven’t been tested, but does anyone have any thoughts between a 5950x vs 5900x for msfs20? Based on the 3000 series it looks like the 3950x has lots of cores sat around doing nothing while others are maxed out in msfs20, so the extra £250 or so for a 5950x over a 5900x could be a waste of money for flight simming. I do want to future proof though, so if Asobo are likely to develop the sim to be spread more evenly over cores that may temp me to sp…
