Howdy Folks, I have a 3080Ti, unopened and ready to install but will hold off til after the pending perf update. For 3090 users who at displaying at 1440p, what does it take to see VRAM exceed 12Gb in use? I know it's absolutely possible to go over 12Gb by increase Render Scaling, but short of that, what's it take, what plane, what scenery, etc. My 8Gb 2070 Super is quite decent overall but in dense scenery I need to run many sliders at High instead of Ultra, w/ Object LOD around 110, Terrain LOD around 150 or soand quite frankly it still looks quite good. In the air over areas like Los Angeles frequently VRAM is hovering around the low 7Gb mark and all the w…

Hello all, Just a quick-fire thread to hopefully get some pointers of where I can or should go for my new PC build. I'll be honest, I get a bit overwhelmed with PC specs and configurations, what works best with what etc. and without sounding lazy, I am just too busy with everyday life to learn about it quickly. I am returning to the simming world after a 4-5 year break, MSFS has pulled me back in. I don't own a PC currently as I game on PS4/5 so I am looking for a complete build or guide of what to buy. Like most, I want good frames in built up areas (EGLL, KFJK, Downtown NYC etc) with AI traffic on high settings but I am aware that may not be possible unti…

Most of the the topics I read about hardware upgrades are talking about improvements in FPS, texture and scenery quality. Or, the ability to run at higher options settings. But - the tremendous improvement I have seen is in my control of higher performance / more responsive planes like the P-40 Tomahawk. Prior to the upgrade - I had serious difficulties controlling the heading of the P-40 on the runway as the tail wheel lifted and the P-Factor exerted it's effect. Every takeoff and most landings were a white knuckle experience. Now - with my significant hardware upgrade - the P-40 is easy and fun to fly. I have great control on the runway and in flight. The …

Hey forum, I am beginning research for my new PC, my current one is 5 years old and I'm expecting another year of research and saving for my next build. Currently my primary sim is P3D 5.2, MSFS 2020 is not quite where I want it yet (with available addons), but by the time I can make this new build a thing, MSFS will hopefully be where I want it to be but the specific addons I use on P3D will likely not be on the new platform yet, so I am expecting using both sims for a while. Is it feasible and realistic to have one dedicated SSD for P3D and all of its addons, and other SSD for MSFS and its addons in the new build? One of the two will probably share storage spa…

One question guys, I have a new Samsung 970 Pro 512GB NVMe and an old Samsung 960 Pro 512GB NVMe where P3D is installed since end of 2017. Should I use the new one (supposedly better) to the P3D or to the Win10? (and then the old one will get the Win or stay with P3D) What will benefit the most? Thanks.

Remember the tool from Microsoft that was supposed to test your systems compatibility with windows 11? Remember how it didn’t work correctly and had to be withdrawn? Well, Microsoft’s shame is complete, as a freeware tool now does what their own tool (still) can’t. You can download it here, and it will very helpfully and in detail explain why your system does or does not meet the specs to run the new OS. WhyNotWin11

I'm considering a desktop (finally, after 8 years of flying in laptops). While for GPUs I had to settle for a 1650 (not willing to pay today's prices), I'm trying to decide between an Ryzen 7 3700x and a Ryzen 5 5600x. While both appear to have the same performance, the former is 8-core and the latter is just 6-core, but apparently has better single-thread performance: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i5-8300H-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-3700X-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-5600X/3254vs3485vs3859 There's no 5700x AFAIK, and going to a 5800x is out of my budget. Cost here is around $50 less for the 5600X. I intend to use it for P3D4, FSX-SE and maybe maybe MSFS (if I give them anot…

Hello guys, I have updated my PC from the i9-7900x and EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3 to the AMD Ryzen 5900X and EVGA RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra. With the A320 at default EDDN, I get some 40+ fps (at 4K, not all settings to max). Usually I see that in Dev Mode it says that it is limited more by the main thread. The CPU load is at 22-25% (5900X is in OC) and GPU between 90-95%. Can be achieved in this configuration 60 stable fps? I mean are my settings too high for 60 fps with this system or have to tweak somewhere else? Thanks! These settings are also used by Chewwy with the RTX 3080.

Hello! This question is driving me mad. I am trying to spec out a new PC for FS2020 with an ASUS RTX 3090 ROG STRIX OC, and I cannot for the life of me make a decision on which CPU to go for. There is so much conflicting information online. I've seen benchmarks with the 11900K ahead, and yet I've also seen benchmarks with AMD ahead. Although many are slating the 11900K, I think Flight Simulator is a unique piece of software. I don't know how much of a difference it makes, but it seems the 11900K can clock much faster. Any thoughts on the best CPU specifically for FS2020?

While I haven't yet decided on which simulator(s) I'll be running, I have come to the conclusion that my current rig won't cut the mustard. Hey Forum. I am doing research for my next computer build and I am thinking I want to go with a rocker switch to power on the PC. The power button on my current 4 year old case is starting to become worn from the many times its been pressed and now I have to find the sweet spot and hold it for the PC to fire up. Like it's no longer aligned with whatever button is under it. I had the idea of using a rocker switch but it springs back to the off position once its been pressed on. The simulators at my college use them and they feel fantastic. How can I implement this feature in my new build? If the case I want to use does not have a rocker power switch is there some…

Hello altogether, in June I had posted a table comparing the hardware recommendations for FSX, Aerofly FS2, XP11, P3Dv4 and P3dv5. Now I have added the MSFS: By the way: I prefer to spend my money in aircraft addons and scenery addons (photoreal sceneries), not in extremely expensive hardware. It's the addons that make the quality and immersion in your Flight Simulator. Always safe landings Torsten

Hi guys, just wondering what kind of improvement I can expect to see going from a 3700X to a 5950X at 1440p still paired with my 2080 Super FTW3. I managed to get a 5950X just now for retail as Amazon somehow had them back in stock finally. I've been eyeing one for a while not just for games but for other use so yeah I know I could have saved a bit on the 5900 for example. I actually wanted a 3900X instead of the 3700X at launch but couldn't get one and settled with the plan to just drop the next gen in which turned out to be the 5000 series instead of a 4000 naming scheme.

Hi, I tried to load FS2020 on my D drive because its empty, but it winded up on my C. I'd like to know if for future add-on's can I use the D drive? Like Orbx or whatrever, and if so, is there any drawbacks from doing so? Because FS2020 has basically filled up my C drive with 150GB. Thanks.

Hello. I want to start trying to overclock my system. I have a Maximus XII Apex mother board with a i9-10850K processor , I have a triple fan Corsair water cooler Supposedly my CPU runs at 3.6 with turbo mode of 5.2 I would like to get in the range of 5.0 My question is in regards to the Cores. Should I overclock all cores to the same Ghz? or Should I do cores zero and one and leave the other ones slower. I only use it with P3DV5, but I also have MSFS2020 which I will use probably later when Prosim 737 is working better with MSFS. Thanks in advance. Juan

Well' I've built my new rig: AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, GTX1650 (until the GPU crisis is solved) and 2x8GB DDR4 3200 RAM. I did some performance tests (while I'm setting up everything), but the temperatures were a bit high for my liking (75°C at the stock 3.7 GHz). This is with the stock AMD Wraith Stealth cooler. I understand and accept this cooler was designed with other goals, and that, if I want to overclock, I need a better one first. I don't feel comfortable using water coolers (even AIO), so I'll go with an air one. However, I don't know what to compare. I mean, I know TDP for my 5600x is 65W, and that the Wraith Stealth can deal with up to 80W. I may compare usi…

Just noticed that my cpu is running pretty hot with p3d v5 and sliders to the right. It's lows are in the high 70s and the highs are in the low 90s. The average is 82. Im not used to my pc running this hot. Im using a Kraken x3 watercooling pump, and I have it set to performance to increase the cooling. My pc is noticably working much harder with p3d than it is, say, with MSFS on ultra settings.

Hi guys So today I purchased Gamepass for PC and installed Xbox App and FS2020. The game is installed in D:/ (Samsung 960 EVO 1GB) Medium Settings: with AA and Motion Blur OFF Live Air Traffic Playing on 2560 x 1440 144Hz My specs are as follows: [email protected] (Adaptive Mode) 64GB DDR4 3800MHz GTX 970 Stock speed When running the game I was getting 11-13FPS and the following message: "Limited by Main Thread". I opened up HWinfo and noted CPU was at default speed of 1.2GHz. CPU-Z was also showing same speed of 1.2GHz. It appeared that game load was not forcing CPU to turbo boost to 4.7GHz. However when stress testing CPU with y-cr…
