  1. Hello Everyone ... I'm getting pretty serious with MSFS these days and also would like to explore City Skylines 2 once it's not as broken which I know is another resource intensive title. I'm fine with my current setup at high settings in General Aviation aircraft but if I use add-on scenery combined with an airliner near say NYC or LA I struggle to get 30FPS and also get frequent stutters (the worst part) so it's time to upgrade the CPU and GPU. From what I've been able to tell researching GPU's a 4090 is likely overkill for me just wanting to do 1440p at Ultra Settings so I'm eyeing the 4080 Super as my GPU upgrade. First, would everyone agree the 4080 Super is t…

I see a reputable custom builder using a DDR5 5200 along w/ an MSI board for this CPU. The one I'm looking at is this one which has decent latency. Is there a compelling reason to aim for faster RAM? Most important to me is stability and reliability. 3. I just placed an order for new parts including 7800X3D and just learned audio pops/clicks are happening for some, but not sure if this is when headphones are plugged into the mobo's stereo jack for headphones. Some report this with BluTooth phones. If this is the case I need to STOP this order from shipping NOW as there is no way I will l put up with this issue.

  4. Have assembled my own PCs since Pentium days, always Intel. I don't like what I read about heat/energy for Intel so have settled on AMD this time around. Seems like most use water cooled systems these days but I've never done it, and quite frankly don't see the need unless cooling needs are extreme. I care much more about power/temp than those few+ percent increase in performance one might get going for the reigning king. The benchmark is MSFS, and we hear tell MSFS 2024 will come with substantial improvements in CPU performance thru better multithreading, so this argues against prioritizing performance for me. I have read AMD is easier to cool and less power hun…

  5. This is really important to me and I just placed an order for 7800X3D before learning about this issue that some have. Please go to the link below and vote if you have 7800X3D or other 7000 series CPU. Mods: please leave this here for a day or two as that's about all I have to be able to cancel my order at Newegg. https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/643640-poll-audio-popsclicks-using-headphone-w-ryzen-7000/ Thanks

Hi guys 😃 I'm thinking of converting my old PC into a new PC in the near future, i.e. buying a new PC, which means I'll order the hardware and assemble it myself. Now the big question: What do I need for a graphics card, does it have to be a RTX4090 for 4K (4K in any case) or is a RTX4080 16GB also possible? But I don't have the idea that the MSFS should always have the best settings, such as LOD 300, and not everything has to be on Ultra, sometimes high is also possible, I'm not the super demanding one. The PC should mainly run MSFS, Photoshop, Lightroom and the like. What do you think, I look forward to a tip or two. cheers 😉

Apparently, there's a new type of virus that infects the UEFI (commonly called the BIOS). No antivirus software can fix this type of virus. The system will be hosed. So far there have been no outbreaks of such virus but the vulnerability has been discovered. A complete prevention is to have installed the latest BIOS update for your brand of motherboard. Not all models of all brands of motherboards has a BIOS update yet to prevent this. But some do. I updated my BIOS just now. When you go to your motherboard brand's webpage and look at the BIOS versions available, the description of the version should mention if there is a fix for this new type of virus. Loo…

  9. Hello - My RX 6800 died after 3 years and I’ve managed to safely remove it from my “newer” 3 year old computer (I’m a little tentative about touching computer innerworkings but did install the 1070 into the 2015 Dell I’m currently simming on 🙂 ) Lovely spouse says just drop $2200 on a new rig, but being thrifty and since my 3 year old 10900K 32GB system is otherwise just fine and the new system’s single core speed isn’t much higher, I’m thinking I want to just get a $300 or less card to get me through to the next system. I’m eyeing either the 3060 12GB or the 4060 8GB. I really want to go back to Nvidia as even my ancient 1070 is providing fluid performanc…

I’ve had my build for a year now. Brand new build and I installed a clean copy of w11. Things looked to be functioning as I would expect them too back then. I recently installed the block 2 version of the fenix and I also use the pmdg 737 and other default GA planes. When I built my PC. I followed the guide from AMD to make sure the 7950x3d had all the correct drivers. I verified core parking was taking place when MSFS was being used. Now, core par…

Hi All, First post for me, so please be nice :) I am in the (early) process of building something 737-ish - intended to end up something like THIS - or at least that's the ambition!! At this stage, I am working through the software side of things, before getting into the hardware, and I've two (hopefully easy) questions; The first question is about Control. I obviously need a PC to run Prepar3D (V6).... But then the all the hardware (ie MCP and two screes running EFIS), FMC, Radio Stack, possible Throttle TQ..... The simulation screen would probably be a 49" Curved monitor, on HDMI. Can this all be done with 1 PC? Does anyone do it? …

Hello all, as my 3.5 year old PC suddenly displays a "cpu overheat" message although the watercooler seems to work ok ( all fans working / cpu-out water hose warmer than cpu-in hose ), I'm now taking a closer look into a possible significant upgrade. My current system consists of an i9 10900kf / RTX 3080 / 32GB DDR3200 RAM. I'm flying primarily on prepar3d v4.5 and v5.4, but I'm considering to do the sidestep to MSFS. Anyway, I fly exclusively in VR, using a Valve Index and do also consider an upgrade to a high resolution headset ( such as a Varjo Aero ). For this purpuse, I require a high end system, as I fly with PMDG Aircraft, Active sky and in…

  15. I know if you're simultaneously running memory intensive applications but that's not going to be me in general. Starting to think about my next build and as my current CPU is slowly needing more voltage, or lower clock speed and has seen a huge amount of use over 4y now. I'm pretty certain 32Gb is well more than enough system RAM but open to arguments to the contrary. The new build will have 4090 in it FWIW (to this discussion about system ram!) Cheers

So I have gone the longest time ever in delaying an upgrade to my flight sim computer. Last build was before MSFS and current machine is an 8700K (overclocked to 4.6) with 1080Ti graphic card. I have adjusted the settings to be what I consider very good, the aircraft graphics are great (PMDG, FENIX, etc), scenery looks good to me, maybe the LOD distance is too short, not sure. Performance is reasonable, I don't really look at frames but in and around 25 to 30, maybe slightly less on the ground at a busy airport. I really used to notice lots of stutters and pauses in P3D but not really noticing much if anything of that with MSFS. So the question is, what would…

  18. Hello, I finally managed to put some effort into my hardware and was throwing the old 970 out, replacing it with a 3 months old 4060ti a friend sold to me after not needing it anymore. I was seeing the card running fine on his system with a few games and benchmarks, however in my PC it just wont. System Specs are as following: Ryzen 5 5600x, 32 GB of DDR4-3200 on ASUS ROG Strix B550f, 600w BeQuiet PurePower PSU, Windows 11 Pro with all recent updates. Before installing the new card i was updating the BIOS of the Mainboard, just in case. Then removed all nvidia drivers using DDU and reinstalled. The windows GUI runs OK on "Microsoft Default Display devi…

After reading over and over the virtues of AMD’s 7800X3D CPU, I decided to upgrade my flight sim computer. Besides the 7800X3D I purchased Asus’s ROG Strix B650E-F mother board and 32 GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR5 Ram. I also added a Cooler Master 360 water cooler and another 2TB M202280 drive to round out the upgrade. I reused the case, 1000 watt PSU and RTX 3080 GPU. The system went together without any issues until I attempted to boot the computer. All I got was a yellow LED that Asus says means a DRAM issue. I swapped the modules to different slots, tried one then the other module alone. I attempted to run Memtest86 using a flash drive, but since the system is not…

  21. Hi everyone I've been thinking for many years of biting the bullet and going for a multi TV sim build. I basically stopped simming back in 2021 as the constant setup/takedown of peripherals on the family PC was a nightmare. Personal circumstances have given me the time, space and resources to actually build something dedicated. I used to fly on P3D but I've decided it is time to switch and join the MSFS revolution. Unfortunately though I am nowhere near tech savvy enough to go down the full cockpit design and build project. For me it will be very much plug and play style. I have done some research and I have identified pretty much the equipment I want - 3x 55…

Hi all. Any recommendations for PC builders in the UK please? My last flight sim pc was from wired2fire many years ago. I've also heard of chillblast. Regards

  23. Last week Sunday I was able to sim successfully then went off to Italy for the week. Wife didn’t touch PC while gone. Fired up PC this AM and zero signal to TV - tried different HDMI cables, no good. GPU appears to be lit on the side so is getting power. By using a HDMI output can get a signal to the TV so the computer itself works. I’m using a Samsung TV that has HDMI or USB 2.0 ports. My RX 6800 has one HDMI 2.1 output. My questions... 1) Could I hook up w HDMI to HDMI cable and try to output that way? Or get a Display Port 1.4a to HDMI converter (card also has a Display Port output)? 2) Assuming that I can keep outputting v…
