Going to be starting with 2020 and getting a new PC for it. I am looking at a Ryzen 7 9800X3D or a Ryzen 9 7950X3D. For the GPU what would you recommend? A 4070/4080? I realize things change quickly and will probably go to 2024 once things get sorted out, but who knows so I am thinking about buying for today and 2020 instead of tomorrow so to speak. Thanks for your input.

Evening all, I'm wanting to get a new graphics card to replace my aging 1060 6GB. I'm on a limited budget, so of the ones I've seen in my price range it looks like either a 3060 12GB or a 4060 8GB. Which would be better for MSFS2020/2024? Cheers, Malcolm

I have not found any videos or articles comparing performance in MSFS2024 on the 9800x3D or 14900K. Have anyone found this? I am in the process of upgrading my hardware, but with this new msfs 2024 I am unsure what to do.

I fly MSFS. My current system is pretty low-end, it gives me 40-55 fps at altitude, but it stutters badly with either big airports, or heavy clouds, or more than about 10 injected aircraft. (Put all three of those things together and it's a slideshow.) So I've been flying in and out of smaller airports exclusively, which has been fine, but I was thinking it's time to upgrade. What do you think about a system built around an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D and a GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER? Thanks.

With the coming of MSFS 2024, I decided that the best plan for me would be to put it and all if it's associated folders on a designated SSD. I was wondering though if anyone is using or has used an external (USB) hard drive for flight sim 2020 or 2024? Does it work well, or is an internal drive the better way to go?

I have 10700k and a 3060 and 32 gigs of system RAM, resolution is 1080 that I built during COVID. I have put in the FG and dlss dlls for FS2024, but it seems like it's struggling. It's most noticeable when I look out left window and turn, the ground almost moves in chunks at low altitudes--1,500 feet with 208 and 172. I'm using the recommended settings ala low to medium. I set car traffic to low as it was set to medium. That kind of helped. FS2020 was ok, I could get 45 FPS with FG. It seems like I may have to build a new machine, ugh: only four years old.

Or more accurately, my PC with a mega huge Phenteks Evolv X case, with its tempered glass panels that weigh 6 million tons (maybe more) is to be transformed into a Mini ITX machine. Will be moving in a few months, island hopping, and don't want to be hauling that mega heavy machine around. Don't get me wrong, its an awesome case, but its time for small form factor. Ncase M2 on the way. Via a friend in the UK, they don't ship to Guernsey. Posh Asus Mini ITX motherboard. 1000 watt Corsair Platinum SFF PSU. (yes, the wattage is that high with SFF PSU's, now. Arctic Freezer 3 240 AIO. (yes, that's right ME buying an AIO 😲 - D15 won't fit) Its the sensibl…

My mainboard is AM4 , so that old style DDR4 RAM is cheap. My MB won't run over 3200 Mhz. I paid $95 at local Bestbuy. is $94 on Amazon. CORSAIR VENGEANCE LPX DDR4 RAM 64GB (2x32GB) 3200MHz CL16-20-20-38 https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-VENGEANCE-3200MHz-Compatible-Computer/dp/B07Y4ZZ7LQ/ Conclusion: Surfing and doing stuff on computer noticeably faster. msfs 2024 runs about the same. Dev Mode window shows usage under 32 GB all the time. It seems it may be helping a little in VR. Maybe it will become more helpful as newer sceneries or planes draw more RAM. I don't run other things in conjunction with MSFS.

I was considering upgrading my 13700K to a 14700K but after consideration i think the price does not worth the gains, so i opted for upgrading my RAM from 32GB to 64GB in preparation for the day when MSFS2024 will be as ready as i need it to be. My rig composition back on Monday was: i7-1300k @ 55Ghz 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6400 RAM RTX 4070 Ti SUPER I was happy to find extra 2 x 16GB RAM sticks of exactly the same type so i run off to get them. Adding them to the board was a happy moment with me smiling. Boot up the machine the memory was found and at that moment i remembered that i need also to update the BIOS to include all the microcode corrections…

Curious what the consensus is so far about Ram and how much is needed ? I hear 16 or 32 is ok, but 64 or even 128 may work better ? Tx

I've had essentially flawless performance since my new build in April 2024, until 24H2 was installed, and now unable to roll back to 23H2 as I've gone past the 10 days or whatever was the limit. After 24H2 was installed noticed a few audio cutouts during flights. They have steadily worsened and just recently noticed it's not just audio, video stammers with it. These cutouts seem like a hardware issue at this point as it's not standard/normal 'stuttering'. I do use high quality Sony studio monitor headphone and wiggled the case front jack to see if any cutouts with that to no avail. Of note, it's very random in that never know when it will start during a flight excep…

I'm curious if anyone has some experience to share w/r/t running P3D v4/5/6 on one of the V-cache (X3D) AMD CPUs. The latest ASUS BIOS fix (2703, Intel microcode 0x12B) for 13th/14th Gen Intel problems just completely bricked my P3D machine. And from reading the tea leaves, it seems that the latest Intel platform BIOS/microcode revisions have also nerfed smooth performance, with the ability to disable processor C1E state being taken off the table, resulting in microstuttering caused by intermittent 800 MHz core slowdowns. After 30-something years on Team Blue, I've just about about had it with Intel and ASUS. I really like how the 7800X3D I'm using for SimZill…

Hey Guys. I've had atleast 3 builds in the same case. A Corsair 570X. I've liked it very much, but the power button is on the fritz. It's happened to others in the past also based on research. I think it's almost impossible to find parts for it. So I've realized I may have to bite the bullet and do a case transplant. So anyway. Looking for solid recommendations on a new case. Some things important to me. -Not interested in a super large case if possible. Used those in the past, but prefer the floor space used by my current mid tower. -Dust filters. This is the first case I've ever had with these and they work fantastic. Hardly any dust ever …

Hi folks, I have decided to upgrade my RAM in prep for MS2024 (not using it yet but have it installed). I just wondered is there anything I have to do, any special precautions or procedures I need to take, to replace the RAM, or is it simply just a case of old 2 out, new 2 in? Many thanks all

I have noticed that my windows 11 rig does not isolate MSFS2024 threads on CCD0 like it does for MSFS2020. Is is detected by the Xbox game bar. I resort to using ProcessLasso to enforce CCD0 usage. But I also notice that FPS does not improve as much as it did in MSFS2020. @Cpt_Piett, do you have the same behavior. Update: scratch that. ProcessLasso affinity was causing hardlocks. The CPU can go over 50% so CCD0 can get into saturation. So maybe it is tagged not to isolation to CCD0?

So I’m upgrading my system. I bought a 9800x3d, new ddr5 ram, new motherboard, and a new 4tb ssd. My currency system has two 2TB ssds with msfs2020. I should be able to take out the old motherboard and install the old ssds in my new motherboard with the new 4tb ssd. I’ll reuse my cooler and 3090. windows and my ssds should function as if nothing changed right? Or should I just clean install windows?

Hi, I want to upgrade my PC for MSFS2024 and looking for some recommandations since I am not really up to date regarding pc hardware. Straight Power 11 850 Watt ATX Fractal Design Define 7 1x 2TB SSD m2 1x 1TB SSD m2 1x 500 GB SSD That what I have crossed needs to change, I guess. I am not sure if my power supply will be sufficient and my cpu cooler. Do you have any recommentations what I could upgrade and with what I could replace?

I have had a video card change from RTX3060Ti to 3090 yesterday, and I have been proposed a decent price to upgrade from my Intel i-12900 to i-14700. Is it reasonable and prudent taking into account this is done ONLY for P3D? (P3D5.4.9.28482)

Recently installed a 9800x3d on a msi mag x670e tomahawk mb. Runs well, but I have not updated the bios. Using the bios that came installed on the mb dated from July. Looking at the msi bios downloads , the latest bios that mentions the 9800x3d is labeled beta. Should beta versions of bios updates be avoided? thanks

Figured I'd create a thread specifically for this new CPU. It was released yesterday but alas, it seems to be a bit of a paper launch with limited retailers carrying it and generally low stock. EU situation seems even worse. I ordered mine from Proshop (.dk) the second it went up, with an estimated delivery of the 12th but who knows, other retailers are suggesting they have nothing coming with waiting times far into December. It does lend credence to the suggestion that it was launched early (originally slated for Q1 2025) as a response both to Intel's fumbling but also the rest of the 9000-series line-up not doing as well as anticipated, thus they haven't had time t…
