I built a new PC in January 2024 w/ the following components: 1000W Superflower PSU, ASrock Steel Legend X670E motherboard, 64 GB G.Trident RAM, AMD 78003xd (w/ Peerless Assassin cooler), PNY RTX 4090 in a Fractal Torrent case (high airflow). When flying VR (Quest3) my PC will randomly shut down, and I mean completely power down in an instant (no lights, no fans, no reboot...nada). This has been repeatable in particularly high-intensity places, such as flying down the Las Vegas Strip at night when my FPS starts struggling, though it also happens at times when I'm doing something simple like sitting in the cockpit of a BAE 146 at a gate of a not-very-busy airport (I keep t…

Built myself high end system in March for video/audio recording/editing/rendering. Also came in useful for MSFS that I started using this year. It ran great, I updated to latest BIOS 2 months back and still ran pretty well but not great. Not poorly enough to mess around with it as very stable but enough to annoy me now and then that SOMETHING wasn't optimized. Then I read article randomly stating BIOS/UEFI upgrade will RESET/DISABLE XMP profile. Cue face palm....I tested my system with Performance Test (free from MS Store) and noted all tests were in 97-99% percentile EXCEPT memory at 75%. Hmmmm Went to UEFI and yup XMP was NOT enabled! So I enabled it …

While thinking about going to a 5800X3D or not, I found there is a 5700X3D. Here in Argentina I can get the 5700X3D for $383 and the 5800X3D for $511. In Newegg USA, it would be $229 and $329, respectively (blame our taxes/tariffs and our location almost at the end of the world 😂). According this Frenchman, I'd be losing 4-6% performance in MSFS: It's in French, but the graph is very clear. Has anyone else tried the 5700X3D in MSFS in more real-usage conditions (ex. landing at KLAX)?

This is for Asus motherboard bios. go to Advanced Mode go to AI Tweaker go to VDDCR CPU Volts change AUTO to Offset Mode go to Mode Sign change + to - (so that changes reduce voltage instead of increase) to to VDDCR CPU Offset Voltage change value to 0.05 (zero point zero five, NOT zero point five !!) go to EZ Mode (don't exit from Advanced Mode) go to EXIT (verify carefully there are 3 exact changes: 1 VDDCR CPU is now Offset Mode 2 Mode Sign is now - (not +)! 3 There is a Voltage Offset of 0.05 (zero point zero five) EXIT to windows. this reduced cpu temps by about 5 C (from max 88 to max 83) in MSFS flight st…

Looking to build a completely new system. I've been following the intel vs amd in recent times, but I still can't get past one thing. Everyone seems to be recommending the 7800x3d (L3 etc.) at 4.2 base up to 5.0 ghz. The 7950x3d is at 4.2 base up to 5.7 ghz. I know the old adage was the higher the clock speed the better the performance. So it would seem the 7950x3d is the answer. Is there any upside to the 7800x3d over the 7950x3d other than price (not an issue)?

I'm contemplating a new simming system at the moment and was trying to understand ram modules and amounts, 2 vs 4 sticks and so on. I came across this post and found it very interesting. Further down in the post lots of good info, answered all my questions. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threads/ram-explained-why-two-modules-are-better-than-four-single-vs-dual-rank-stability-testing.363139/

Hello everyone. As the title says, I've seen here in Argentina that they are offering the Ryzen 7 5800X for just 340 USD. Sounds tempting. Right now I have a 5600X. Rest of specs in my signature. My main usage would be P3D (both v4 and v5) and MSFS, and obviously I'm CPU-limited. Is it worthwhile to switch? Or should I better save my money for something else? Background/extra info: My current air cooler (ID Cooling SE-224-XTS) appears to be rated for 220W, so I guess temperatures won't be a problem. A 5800X3D (well appreciated by MSFS simmers) costs here at least $700. Going AM5 would cost me even higher, because I'd need a new mobo and DDR5 RAM. Also,…

I just learned about this and wondered why I haven't heard about it from many private performance system builders. I know they're electroconductive but that doesn't seem like a show stopper if you're super careful. They are miles ahead, it would appear, to any of the thermal 'pastes' we use or at least that I have used over the decades.

The Rig dates from late 2016, with the exception of the 3050 I added last year when the 970 died. Single monitor 1080p, no need for ultra settings, but I gotta have my PMDG, likely will try the Fenix, and as many great airports as I can find. Will this be an acceptable experience in MSFS? I know a rebuild is imminent, but it's been 8 years and was hoping I could squeeze out another summer without the hassle of doing all the hardware research again. Alternative is I may be able to find ~1,500USD to rebuild now but I'm limited by space to a SFF pc, currently a Fractal Core 500 which can't handle any video cards > 2 slot width. That would limit to a 4060 at best…

I was designing an airport in ADE and switching back and forth to P3D4.5 as I jockeyed objects into position to match the photoscenery. I noticed a smell similar to that hot electronic component smell. I ran the Intel processor tool and the mobo came up with no faults or problems. Also it's never been overclocked. The next day when I booted up I heard a thumping sound that I later determined to be one of the two 75mm fans in the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 graphics card starting and stopping (pulsing??). I removed the card (it wasn't very dusty as I housekeep my machine frequently and pulled the suspect fan and immediately ordered two identical ones for $20. I'm on …

I'm finally in a position to start over on a new rig after several years of struggling with my "modest" system (see below). This is the new system I'm looking at and would like your critical opinion. And yes, it's a pre-built...SkyTech Gaming Legacy 4. Out the door approx $3500 USD (incl monitor). Thoughts? MSI Pro AMD5 board that has enough fan headers to cover case fans etc. The Phanteks case I am using came with a built-in PWM fan hub which I've never used and near as I can tell the only reason to use it is to keep wires from my 6 case fans on the back of the motherboard where the hub is affixed rather than in the main case area. Any other reasons to use this over direct connects to fan connectors? Cheers

I have tried various types of monitoring software but experience this same problem with all of them. They monitor the temps (CPU and GPU) perfectly the first time I installed them. After about the second or third day the CPU temp freezes (gets stuck at a certain temp, say 53C) but the GPU temp continues fine. Its happened with all six different programs tried. Any help?

Getting back into MSFS after 20 year hiatus. Considering the Costco CyberPower PC Gaming Desktop for $899.99. It has Intel Core i5-13400F Processor, 20MB L3 Cache, NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4060, 8GB vid card, 32GB DDR5 Memory, 2.0TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD. I'll be running my two existing 32" LG GSync monitors with 165Hz refresh rate. Anyone using one successfully? Does it sound adequate? With Costco's liberal return policy, I have 3 months to upgrade if it's not up to snuff. What are your thoughts/suggestions?
