July 9, 20232 yr Since you made me aware of Noctua it's all I've used. As mentioned in the other thread my 9900K is faltering a bit so I may end up going with a new CPU/mobo/memory sooner than expected as I been planning on next gen Intel. I'm certainly not going to de-lid anything so how does the Noctua work for 13900K versus high end liquid cooler? Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. Aircraft used in MSFS 2024: Fenix A320, Aerosoft CRJ, FBW, WT 787X, I-Fly 737 MAX 8, Citation Longitude.

So it would depend on how the thermals are for the 13900K compared to 12900K. From what Ive seen with a quick Google, there's barely any difference in temps between the two CPU's, so I would say, most definitely, try your D15 on the 13900K if you get that CPU. The new 2nd Gen version of the D15 will be available in 2024, second quarter. There have been many improvements. Namely, optimized heatsink fin pitch, so the equivalent to 20% more surface area, two extra heat pipes, offset design like the S variant, two new design 140mm fans with an optimized pressure/airflow curve. Quite a bit cooler than the current D15 by all accounts.

Thanks Martin--looks like I'm okay for who knows how long w/ the current CPU after dialing back clock speed and boosting voltage slightly, so will probably go with the Refreshed version of Intel's latest this fall. I think I'm going to go w/ AIO since my Phanteks case supports a 3 fan 360 cooler up top and losing all of the space-occupying aspect of Noctua is attractive. Cheers and thanks!
