  1. Started by Chock,

Okay, here's a question for anyone who has experience with the modern engines on the newer versions of Airbus A320 and the 737 MAX. I didn't get much chance to work on the 737 MAX before it was grounded (I think I only worked on a Norwegian one maybe a couple of times before they were grounded), but it of course also has fancy LEAP engine of a type broadly similar to that on the Airbus NEOs, which I do work on pretty often. Anyone who has worked on an Airbus NEO when it's starting its engines will know that the engines have a a rather long start up time (allegedly 50 seconds according to the makers but I've never actually timed it), such that crews are always keen to…

In light singles and twins. Like C206, Piper Navajo, etc I've heard about 80 lbs. each? That seems a bit to much. The reason I'm asking is I want to "take out all the seats" and adjust empty weight so I can convert it to a cargo plane. Thanks.

Hey everyone! So quick question, I have been flying a lot lately on some of the big boys like 737-700, -800, and had an opportunity to sit in one of the smaller boys, a Challenger 350! But something always struck me about these cockpits, it's the windows. They are so slim! They have a lot less viewing area than I have expected! (Then again the seat wasn't adjusted to my height of 5'7) I fly Cessna 150, and 172, and those windshields are very large! But my instructors old 1965 Mooney M20C, also had some tiny little front cockpit windows. Any chance someone can give me the reason as to why they seem so much smaller? Thanks, Alec.

I'm living in a different world now. I haven't completely dropped out but I am drifting back to a past that was more comfortable for me. Thanks to Turner Classic Movies (I watch 1 or 2 a night) I am taken back to a more familiar world and people whose names I know. Last night I watched The Philadelphia Story with Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart. The movie was released in 1940 and I kept thinking to myself, "Jimmy, you have no idea what's in store for you. You're going to become a bomber pilot and a general in the Air Force Reserve." This evening's fare is "GiGi with Leslie Caron,Louis Jordan and Maurice Chevalier." I know they don't say f*** 157 …

  11. Hi Folks, I've been looking for ages (years) to come up with some means to connect my Garmin Pilot iPad EFB app to P3D (which I use in the RW)... I just came across this little utility and it seems to work pretty well - in addition it supports connections to other EFB's... Free limited area demo available from web page... Sometimes Garmin Pilot seems to lose synch with the FS position and toggles between RW position and FS position very rapidly... It doesn't happen often and I simply turn off simulation mode on Garmin Pilot - then turn it back on - then it seems to run fine... I like it and now it allows me to practice with the EFB app I run in the cockpit... It's r…

I'm coming into a nice windfall and am thinking of getting a new computer. I have been looking at the Alienware Aurora R8 Gaming Desktop. I'm planning on ordering it next week. I have an option of two video cards. NVIDIA GeForce RTX2020 Ti 11GB GSSRX. OR Dual NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super 8GB GDDR6 Graphics. I have no idea what all that means. I'm not doing anything fancy like multiple displays or such. Just a desktop to run P3Dv4 and Orbx Scenery. Being a complete dunce in these matters I need to know which one would work best for my purposes. The extra 160 dollars for RTX 2080 is not an issue. Once I get the new one set up …

  15. There has been a recent change regarding recognition of donors to Avsim and it has been communicated to me personally that the decision maker was the CEO of Avsim. So who is the decision maker who recently stripped Lifetime Donor status from donors who have contributed $500.00 or more over several years and restricted that recognition to (3) (reported) donors who donated instead $500.00 in one single donation? I searched the site and can find no information on CEO, Board, or Officers. Please point me in the correct direction. I was informed that the change was based a legacy memo from founder Tom Allensworth some years ago, but the Donor page and the live recognit…

Hi all, I have been using FSXWX as my weather engine, and it worked lovely. Yesterday when I start it, it connects to FSX, but won't show anything after that-nothing is downloaded. I went to the FSXWX website http://www.plane-pics.de/fsxwx/home.htm, the website won't display. Is anyone also experiencing this? Thank you and have a great rainy day if ur in the east coast :) Eric

So I have been playing flight sims since FS98 and have mostly just flown airliners but started getting tired with them. Currently I use P3D v4 and recently tried flying the VRS Superbug again. Before I would have trouble navigating with it and have trouble landing it so didn't fly it much. Well now that I have been flying it again I have been able to learn a lot more and can now easily navigate with it as well as be able to make smoother landings and it has renewed my interest in making flights in P3D. My favorite thing to do is to takeoff from Edwards AFB with clear skies in the middle of night and just cruise around the Mojave Desert where it's just me and the stars es…

Hi there, I’m a new member and I’m not sure where to post this. I want to know if there is any site that covers the E2 flight control logic in high detail. I do know that the E2 has full flight envelope protection, and I do know that the yoke doesn’t move when the AP is engaged. Here are all my questions: Can the FCMs in the E2 override any excessive pilot input in normal mode? I expect that they can because the E2 FBW is, from what I understand, like the FBW in the Embraer Legacy 500, and the E2 FBW has full envelope procetion, and the E2 has full FBW. There is some information about the E2 FBW on this page, and it mentions the Legacy 500: http://www.…

Hello Just popped in to say that my MSFS Gateway that has been serving the Microsoft flightsim community for almost 20 years has just been overhauled and updated to a more mobile-friendly version. I hope you find it a useful resource, and if any of your favourite sites are not listed please let me know. Regards Tony www.msfsgateway.com

  22. Hi folks, I've bought several sceneries from SimMarket.com but often, I get brutally slow download speeds that defy sanity. We're talking 20KB/sec slow. Not all the time, but often in the mornings. I submitted a support ticket and their very fast reply was it's not them....and closed the support ticket. Problem is, Tracert doesn't totally agree.... Below shows that the hop to the server that the downloads are hosted on (Hetzner / Telia) are in the range of near 400ms. That would SUBSTANTIALLY slow down a large download. I was just wondering if anyone else sometimes experienced super slow download speeds from them or is it just my conn…

  24. I just listened to this podcast done by former NTSB investigators Greg Feith and John Goglia on the Lion Air 737 MAX crash. They cite the Indonesian accident report and read directly from it as well as from FDR and CVR data. This is telling a significantly different story than what you keep reading and hearing about the Lion Air crash and the role that MCAS played in it. https://www.podbean.com/eu/pb-w9bnw-cfcd9b It is best if you listen in yourself but I'll cite the most significant parts: The airplane was not only unairworthy in the accident flight but also for two flights prior and was still cleared to fly every time. The airplane was flyable and …

Storm Ciara (named by Irish Met Office) now battering the British Isles, Ireland and NW Europe. This is one of the largest storms to hit us for many years with an amber weather warning covering the whole of England and Wales - a rare occurence. Whilst pressure will not break any records my weather station near Manchester Airport recorded a 65mph gust as a squall line passed through at 11:25. The Airport recorded 86mph with many go-arounds and diverts. The attached image shows the UK Met Office rainfall radar at 11:25 as the worst of it passed through my area - shown by the black icon).
