Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

Hey all, My little brother is desperate to get a flight sim. I guess he just wants to be like his brother 🙂. What are some decent flight sims which will be able to run on an old macbook air? I looked at Aerofly FS2 but was disgusted by the lack of clickable buttons in the cockpit! Cheers

  2. Forty years ago today on 25 April 1980 a Dan-Air B727 departed Manchester and crashed into the mountains of northern Tenerife. The full AAIB report can be read here. https://www.gov.uk/aaib-reports/8-1981-boeing-72-g-bdan-25-april-1980?fbclid=IwAR2JE9Fkr0Kw3fLyooJYH5oXzbaLKvb4MX4EDcHa5bbcLyiRjosNeaGshz0 I flew to Los Rodeos five years earlier for a holiday in the north of the island as the south hadn’t been opened up for tourism back then. Very dangerous airport as the world’s worst aviation accident occurred at the same airport three years earlier.

AHEM! Sorry about the clickbait title. I'm just doing what the mainstream media always does and sensationalising out of proportion! Last week my Mum phoned me that she'd noticed a white plastic object dangling from one of her plants in the back garden. Upon investigation it was a Syma X5c quadrotor (drones are what the military have, with or without lethal payloads attached!). Typical link below. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Syma-X5C-Quadcopter-360-degree-Helicopters/dp/B00L54Y4X4 The lights were flashing. Must have been low battery, out of range, or both..She had brought it inside the house and found the power switch on it & turned it off. I was quite prou…

Hi, does anyone know if TDS is planning on making a 707 like they have the 727? There is a noticeable lack of this aircraft in p3dv4.

  7. Hello everyone! I hope to be not the only who need a well made long-range Business jet like the Bombardier Global Express, Global 7000, Falcon 8/7X. Is there somebody thinking/deciding/working in that category in the future? Not necessarily P3dv4/5 only...I'm talking about any sim platform including future ones like MSFS2020. Personally, I'm totally in love with the Bombardier series, but I wish I don't have to wait to get rich and buy a real one 😂 Regards from Italy, Alex

Hello Everyone! Figured this could be an interesting topic. Virgin Atlantic appear to have been operating hops from St Lucia to Tobago and Granada in a widebody A333 from Gatwick. Wondering why they would have done this, is it a PSO? Surely there's quite a low passanger rate for a widebody on that route? From a pilot's perspective it's super fun as these airports are quite small. Oh, and there's good freeware out there for St Lucia, Tobago and Granada. All thoughts welcome!

Hello, I hope that I chose the right forum, if not, please let me know. I am a german journalist currently realizing a documentary about the Concorde for the french-german public broadcaster ARTE. In this documentary the accident will of course also be a subject. We are going to do an re-enactment in a cockpit in a museum with actors and am looking for a possibility to show the start of the plane the day it crashed via flight simulator to mix it with the reenactment. As you see - I am not an expert in flight simulators, but I hope that maybe some of you can help me? Is there anybody who has the Concorde in his simulator and who could help me out? Best, …

This is a small collection of humor I've collected over the past few weeks: Just some light humor I've collected over the past week or so... Until further notice the days of the week are now called thisday, thatday, otherday, someday, yesterday, today and nextday! Just asked a 6 year old if he understands why there is no school. He said yes because they are out of toilet paper. On the bright side, I am no longer calling this shelter-in-place. I am an artist-in-residence. After years of wanting to thoroughly clean my home but lacking the time, this week I discovered that wasn’t the reason. Where is your next travel destination? - Las Kitchenas …

Regards all Quick question. Please could someone confirm where on a runway do the published latitude and longitude coordinates refer to, eg, where on EGSS runway 040 are the points, 51.87505 and 0.219836 ? I'm thinking the centre of the threshold point, but I've struggled to find this confirmed. Regards

  15. Gonna keep it on the monitor as I putter around my cell..... Ermmmmm, I mean the house. As a tester, if I could figure out exactly where some of these shots were taken, I'd probably hop in and try to fly around in MSFS 2020 to see how they looked.

  17. Hello! Today I noticed that I am not able to log into Simmarket account. I have reset my password twice but it didn't help. I decided to write a polite e-mail and ask them for help. And they came up with an answer that my account was suspicious. Their response was quite fast (after 20min). I told them that I am just an usual flight student and flight simmer and I have no bad intentions. I asked if there is a way to unlock my account because I have addons in my account that I bought. Their answer was that they cant unlock my account because some rules were broken by me. Then I decided to read Terms od service again. I haven't broken any rules. My last p…

  18. Hi everyone, After releasing Chartsfinder a few years ago (just available in french), I decided to go back to software development in order to keep ChartsFinder up to date but also to develop new tools. I am happy to present you today the new software AirportInfo : This software is available in English and French and allows you to : See the runways of an airport and their information (lengths, ILS or not, ...) See the SID/STAR of the selected runway Consult the METAR of the selected airport (3 sources available for METARs: IVAO, NOAA, VATSIM). METAR can be reloaded by clicking on it, otherwise it reloads every 30 minutes. In ord…

Today was a massacre in Nova Scotia. I moved to New Zealand from Nova Scotia 10 years ago and I am heartbroken to hear about these events. I dedicate this song to the lives lost and invite everyone on here to have a drink and listen to this song in honor of those lost today, also dedicated to everyone else around the world through these difficult times, we will rise again

  20. I've decided to fly around the world in a PMDG737-800. Currently on my second leg from Keflavik to Gander. I started at London Heathrow. I use EFB to store distances, fuel used etc but would like to utilise Google Earth Pro (freeware) to record the route taken. I use it to store my payware airports but those are just static positions. What I would like is to draw a line connecting each airport used. Is it possible and if so how can it be done?

So I’ve read all the reason why Orbx has dropped PayPal. It is what it is... 😕 i will not under any circumstances, enter my long card number, expire date and cvs number into a vender that takes no responsibility if things go south. Stripe, never heard of them..but are as good as PayPal so certain people would like us to believe. No they are not. Period. How are others doing it without entering your card details online? Do I really, in this day in age, have to go to my bank, open a separate account, wait 3-5 days for card to arrive, load it with credit, and go about it that way??? Not liking having to jump through hoops to give my money to someo…
