Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  2. Given the recent interest in the venerable Island (well, a couple of us were interested anyway!), I found this whilst poking about the interwebz. https://www.pprune.org/pacific-general-aviation-questions/450846-britten-norman-islanders-love-em-hate-em-8.html I extracted this report on the XL Islander from that thread, which incidentally, does have some great real life recollections: It gave me a giggle!

It's a tough time for my airline, and sadly, a chunk of my fleet is going away. Currently, I'm on a paid leave of absence, and will displace myself either as CA on the A320 or 787, hopefully in 6 months. I'm lucky, as I have enough seniority to weather the storm. We actually offered a group of pilots what is essentially early retirement, and I watched men and women with seniority numbers as low as #2 take the package. In all, over 600 of our most senior pilots retired. Thankful to still be able to fly my Bonanza, and look forward to getting back to airline flying soon! Stay safe my friends...

These are troublesome times, for pilots as well. Being grounded you still need to pay the bills. Some have found a way to put their knowledge to the use of flight-simmers. Petter Hörnfeldt - aka Mentour Pilot - has a few real life pilots that can be "rented" to give you advice on all sort of things. See here: https://www.Mentourpilot.com/store/ There are 737 and airbus drivers. Might be of interest to someone. Best regards, Jan W.

Hi there I hope i'm writing in the correct part of the forum... I need your help. I had some discussions recently about what it means when a flightsim addon is being "certified by Boeing" or "certified by Airbus". Some users are convinced that it's a sign of quality and how good an addon is. The developper himself just stated that he cannot say anything about that certification because of NDA but that he is very proud about his certification. As far as i know this kind of certification doesnt mean a lot and is "only" the right to use the name and to sell a product under the official brand. And i think it has nothing to do with how well an addon is simulated. …

Hi everyone, as I mentioned in a recent post in the screenshots forum, I enjoy looking for "rare milage" flights. Flights between unusual airport pairings, or with an unusual aircraft on a particular paring etc. The rescue flights etc happening now are a good opportunity for some interesting, real-world influenced flying. Yesterday, I flew Air Canada 7052, a B787-9 from Halifax (CYHZ) to Barcelona (LEBL), a pairing that would never normally happen. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/ACA7052/history/20200325/1029Z/CYHZ/LEBL Today, I'm about to fly Air Transat 481, an A330-300 (-200 IRL) from Lisbon (LPPT) to Halifax (CYHZ) https://flightaware.com/liv…

Been simming since 90's , generally light aircraft. Currently running P3D. My Location is SE UK. That aside, Whats with the incredibly clear blue skies for the last week or so. Is it the high pressure (currently 1023mb)? or the drastically reduced aircraft activity? or maybe something else? I have to say that the last time I noticed skies like this was after another air traffic grounding incident several years ago. Genuinely interested in opinions on this.

Hi all, Sorry to be having to resort to this, however since Simmarket support tickets require one to be logged in, I've had to resort to the classic general forum support thread. For whatever reason, Simmarket does not appear to be accepting my login details. The password reset facility appears to be working fine and I've already reset my password several times, however logging in I am met with: " ERROR: No match for 'E-Mail Address' and/or 'Password'." - This is despite the fact my login details are 100% correct (this also happens regardless of whether I use my customer number or my e-mail). Has anybody else had this? Is this perhaps a problem at Simmarket…

  18. When watching videos of pilots or flight attendants speak about their lives on videos on youtube, they all have one thing in common, except for a select few if it is an advertisement, or a pilot life story, and the video is shot by the company. None say who they work for. For example, instead of saying, "I work for Southwest Airlines and fly 737 aircraft," they will say, I work for a major low cost carrier in the United States, and fly 737 aircraft," and never mention the name of the company they work for. Why is this? Any pilots or flight attendants on here who can tell me why crew members do this? Thanks, Alexandre Trahan.

  21. Just wondering if anyone has decided to dedicate someone of their time to a FS project during this craziness. I was really bummed last week due to the loss of my annual trip to Mexico with my wife. To perk me up, I decided to build a new rig. This time, however, I am going to do the build myself (I usually purchase everything and have a shop do the assembly). My wife's job is stable (US Federal Govt), but my job is a little shaky (small tech related social enterprise). We have a toddler, so he will take up a lot of my time if my wife continues to be forced to go into work. Still, I'll need something that keeps me busy and gives me purpose. This will be even more…

Well it turns out we all owe our infatuations to a 66.7 million years old duck/chicken like bird officially named Asteriornis maastrichtensis. after the Greek Titan goddess Asteria. But you can call her Wonderchicken . Oh, she was a tough little bird: she survived an asteroid impact which wiped out the dinosaurs. I dunno about her range and/or her ceiling; but she must have been a very pretty little thing, eh? source: https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/18/world/wonderchicken-fossil-modern-birds-scn/index.html

Fingers crossed:- ALPHA INVITATIONS There have been a number of discussions in the community regarding Alpha build access recently. We are continuing to discuss our current participation strategy and will finalize any changes/communicate to the community, once we release the updated Alpha build. Our current top 3 tasks regarding Alpha participation are as follows: Ensure that everyone that received an acceptance email has access to the Alpha. Ensure that those that registered early for pre-release build testing, have access to the Alpha. Assess Alpha participation options for adding more people as quickly as possible.
