Memories. The most precious thing you have left when you tread the winter of your life. I just celebrated my 86th birthday. How many more flight simming octogenarians are there out there? We used to be real pilots but father time grounded us. So all we have left are our simulators where we fly the aircraft we used to pilot across geography that was familiar to us way back when. Who remembers hand propping an aircraft to get the engine started? Who remembers the old E6B? Who recalls an old navigation method called pilotage? Who recalls plotting your course on a sectional and then looking for landmarks as you navigated the route? Who remembers light signal…

  2. There is an intense high pressure area over southern Britain this morning and is expected to strengthen to 1050hPa by 00:00Z 20 January. Current pressure here close to Manchester Airport (EGCC) is 1046hPa and still rising. The difference in altitude from STD to QNH is a massive 877 feet! Take advantage and fly over southern UK today as this is an extremely rare weather event.

I am trying to figure out where I bought Carenado B1900 from. I logged into these accounts Flight1 SIMMARKET PCAviator FLIGHTSIMSTORE FSPilotShop -- I have made at least one purchase there, though site is now gone Carenado - "no purchases made - order something" I am pretty sure I bought at least one directly from them over the years. BTW, I wish the sites would have a product description instead of just timestamp and order number. This past year, I did start a note file of all the purchases with serial numbers, but of course that one is not in there. What other places could I have ordered from? I've searched through m…

  6. Surprised I hadn’t heard this earlier since it happened around 12:45 this afternoon. Unfortunately it looks like the crew of 3 has perished, but is unconfirmed since they have not yet been located. Eye witnesses said the plane looked to have gone in nose first in a steep dive, however we all know about avaition “eye witnesses” not always being the most reliable source when it comes to this, but the graph from Flightradar24 shows a pretty significant loss in altitude in a short period of time.

When I first saw this article I thought people were over exaggerating: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/jet-fuel-dump-california-schools-delta-air-lines-flight-89-emergency-landing-lax-today-2020-01-14-live-updates/ I decided to check on Flight Radar and the aircraft was at 2375 feet when it flew over the school, I thought they had to be above 5000 feet for this sort of aircraft when dumping? https://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/dl89#23856f50 (Scroll it to 7:53 for the point over the school) It was a compressor stall so they couldn't wait and it was probably still over weight when it landed judging by how quickly it returned, People on the ground said they cou…

Off and on when I want something different I fly the ultralight through the Grand Canyon. The closer to the river you fly the more challenging it gets. I haven't flown the entire length yet. Just segments of it. Some good starting points are Grand Canyon National Park Airport (KGCN) of course, but also The Ranch (AZ40), Grand Canyon West (1G4), and Grand Canyon Caverns (L37). Noel

I'm thinking we should add a meet and greet forum of sort. That way, simmers in a specific city or geographic area can organize friendly meet and greets in real life. Beers and/or food. Or just hanging out at a local airport talking shop about plane and simming. That way, the personal element can come intl play and hopefully avsim itself wi become more personal. For starters, I'm in the Chicago land area. I have been simming for 22 years since I was 8 years old. I'm a current airline pilot. I would honestly love to chat with folks in the area face to face and what not.

45 minutes ago I got an eMail from deltavirtual.org with an image of a bunny holding a sign (enjoy the show). After logging my flight, I noticed that my flight saved, but SmartCARS kicked me out. I thought that entering my password again was fine, but my password didn't work (hopefully they didn't get that). I then log into the website to notice an automatic redirect to a certain adult film site. Anyone else seeing this? Should I be worried about my information? But I am a flight sim pilot, and after all, the most important question is, "Did my flight save?" :) Interested to hear what you guys notice. Thanks! -Andy

This was just reported by a credible user at the Alpha India Group forums. I just checked myself and it appears that the servers either have a problem or possibly have been compromised.

  17. Hello guys, I have already solved the problem myself. When I register normally, I've always had max. Download-Speed of 100kb / sec but i have normaly 6-7Mb/sec ! Now i tested with Proxyserver via NordVPN and a USA-Server i got 3,5MB / sek! Why is that ?

When do pilots usually enter their flight plans etc into their GPS or FMC units? Before or after engine start?

  19. Started by ivy09,

Hi there fellow virtual pilots. I just got a question about setting an FMC. A tutorial I watched basically told me to go to DEP/ARR and choose the arrival runway/STAR and Transition point, before taking off. I've done that, and I didn't have a hitch with my flight. But then someone just told me that I should not do so until I get instructions by an air traffic controller. However the tutorial I saw was made by a real life 737 pilot and I was wondering which side of the story is the truth. Here is the tutorial I watched. So is this a correct procedure? I mean, you can always change your arrival setting anytime you want right?

I've been a flight sim enthusiast since the 1980s. What has kept me interested has been the increasing realism that can be simulated in this hobby. In line with my desire for realistic experiences, I mostly enjoy flying real-world airline routes. I've typically taken the pdf timetable for the airline and planned trips. The pdf allowed me to look for flights that were realistic for a pilot: from the hub to a destination, find the flight that leaves on the same aircraft type about an hour later, etc. I used United Airlines timetables for years until they were discontinued, so I switched to simulate flying Delta routes. Now, Delta seems to have stopped publishing a ti…
