Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc. Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view. We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

Folks, we do not want AVSIM to serve as a venue for discussions related to ongoing wars, particularly those currently raging in Ukraine and Israel. We understand that these are major world events, and that there might be some otherwise legit aviation-related potential topics, like the loss of the AN-225 in Kiev, but we intend that our forums remain insulated from what would certain be emotionally-charged discussion about these horrific situations. There are plenty of other venues available to carry on those discussions--let's keep things here to discussion about our interests in flight sims, please. We'd prefer AVSIM remain a sanctuary away from the chaos. Th…

AVSIM’s (Tom’s) Policy Regarding Commercial and Freeware Support Forums at AVSIM Did you know AVSIM provides free space for commercial and freeware developers so they can provide support for their product(s)? The Board of Director’s continues Tom’s legacy and the commercial support forums are still free. Developers can also advertise within their forums and even provide links to their respective product(s). There are rules the commercial developer must abide by though and this document is to provide information about those policies since there was never any written policy provided. If a commercial or freeware developer wants to create a support forum…

Beta testers, posting in the AVSIM Forums, should make everyone aware of your affiliation(s) in your signature so our membership can see where you are coming from when posting. In the past we asked developers to let us know if they are developers so members can see the individuals affiliation when posting. We never did this for beta testers but, ethically and morally, letting our membership know who you represent or work for should be included in your signature. Beta testers should be proud to show they are beta testing products! I have seen a lot of outstanding banners in signatures showing the product with the words "Beta Tester" inside. That's a good idea but I am…

Reality: Warner Brothers has sat on a completed film for years and said it would be a tax right off and never be released, despite test screenings being very positive. But after awhile, enter Ketsup Entertainment who purchased the film for 50 Million dollars. Coyote vs. Acme will premiere in theaters on August 28. Artifice: Wylie Coyote is suing Acme for selling faulty products for years.

Tonight while I was browsing YouTube, I came across an old channel that I used to watch years ago for flight Sim. That channel was frooglesim. It got me thinking about all the old YouTube channels and the community we had back in what I call the Dark Ages of Flight Sim before MSFS 2020 came out but after Microsoft stopped development back then. Anyone else ever think back to those days or wonder what ever has happened to those people who were a big part of the community but no longer are with us or retired from it? I guess with the passing of time and getting older it’s crazy to think back to those days of nostalgia. I remember meeting Froogle in …

I took this picture way back when we took the kids to Florida. There was a fire engine truck following the shuttle. Our guide said, out of the BILLIONS of people on Earth, only a handful ever got this close to the Space Shuttle just three hours after it returned to Earth from orbit. Someone said this was the only time he’d been this close to the shuttle as well, even after about 25 years of being around the launch pad.

Trying to figure out the proper A/P procedure when I'm doing an ILS approach. The ILS typically has at least two waypoints that bring you first onto the localizer then to glideslope capture. Assuming I get vectors to final, should I then put the autopilot back in NAV / VNAV mode or simply arm LOC and after capture, ensure I'm on a good decent profile using V/S to capture glideslope. Any advice from RL pilots (especially airliner crew) is much appreciated.
