Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

I just read an article about physical AI and I'm wondering how that will affect pilots. Why is Jeff Bezos raising $100 billion to bring AI to factories? Here's what to know "... for example, could simulate how air flows around airplane wings, or predict where a metal part might crack under pressure, the the Journal reported. Without flying an actual plane, companies can use AI to generate scenarios to pressure test the wings so a plane can be brought to market faster. Chatbots such as ChatGPT are large language models that were trained on vast quantities of text, images and videos from the internet. They identified patterns in online information and learned to mimi…

  7. Basically, we'll be able to buy the panels and invertor kits and plug em in. UK regs need updating though as UK has specific requirements. Already popular in Europe, of course, you see the kits installed on balconies. Shakespeare predicted it apparently... "Romeo, Romeo wherefore art thou Romeo? "Take care, Juliet, for thou balcony solar is precariously mounted." Our feline overlords have banned talk of climate change and any debates as to whether solar panels are good or bad. Cats rule!

The next time you're driving and you pass a McDonalds and your kids want to stop, think about this: Some day you'll have to give up your driver's license and that kid of yours will have to drive you everywhere. Eventually you'll have the following exchange: It's called... Karma. ----- Hook

Dan Piraro's newspaper cartoon Bizarro is now in its 41st year. I always thought it sort of a poor man's Farside. Not as clever, but it sold newspapers because it had a few nonsense symbols hidden in every cartoon. Which made it sort of like a crossword puzzle to find them. After a few years he got the idea of telling the reader how many symbols were in that cartoon by putting the total number above his signature. His 14 symbols (there are two different ones for Olive Oyl). Piararo's wife sort of looked like Olive Oyl from the Popeye cartoons, and his two daughters were named Katherine Killian and Kathryn Kaitlyn (therefore O2 and K2). 14 original symbol…

Pulsar Just demonstrated that they can create the plasma, guide it with magnetic fields and confine it within the exhaust nozzle of an engine, the hardest part of the architecture. 21. ANI - this is what we currently call “AI” in the hyped sense with several related variants … it’s not what I would consider real AI (see below) AGI - ability to learn and reason and apply to new tasks (on the same level as humans) - theoretical and doesn’t exist yet (or we haven’t encountered it). ASI - super intelligence (the stuff you see in movies) and intelligence that is far beyond human functioning (this would be the one we might need to fear or maybe not) - again theoretical and doesn’t exist yet (or we haven’t encountered it). Having used ANI in my daily workflow my experience so far: 1. JetBrains ReSharper with AI Assist - Works reasonably we…
