  1. I've just contacted the BMFA as I was thinking of repairing my Raptor 30 RC Heli. BMFA membership as a lot of you will know gives you 3rd party liability insurance. A necessary thing when the heli is 3kg of rotary death of course! Membership runs from January to December - no selective start date, hence my reason for phoning them now. However, it now transpires that ANY flying model heavier than 0.25 kg has to have the user's unique I.D. number on it (granted by registering and paying the EXTRA fee over and above the normal membership). I'll have to weigh my 1.8 metre powered glider and my 450 size electric heli too. Then again I already know the answer of cours…

Hi Jim, I think why most people post messages / threads in the primary forums, rather than the specialized sub-forums are because of readership volume and increasing the chance of getting an answer / resolution. I have had a few posts go unanswered in the sub-forums. just my two cents worth. Thanks!

  3. Just saw this was released. Looks ok, hopefully it won’t be a full let down from the original.

At least one thing was successful with the first flight of the Boeing Starliner. The flight failed to achieve correct orbit, but the capsule successfully returned to earth. https://apnews.com/d941852c59a4811603a8ab3611a3cb8f

I`m not sure if this is the place to post this. Sorry if it isn`t. . . and Merry Christmas and happy holidays. I was kinda bored so I installed Orbiter 2016 (which is still an aviation "hard core" simulator in some ways). I also downloaded the Hi Res Texture Set for (Earth) as well @ (32GB. . .Ouch!), plus the D3D9 Client (exe.). I set it all up in 4K with everything maxed. When I got to Orbit, after a few fails, I just about fell out of my chair. The visuals were so stunning I thought I was really in space. The Atlantis Orbiter (Shutte STS-101) is all redesigned and is a real work of art. The flight model and space physics are unmatched for a space sim. Coupled with…

FSAddon have announced that they are about to release a Bristol 170 for FSX, FSX-SE and P3D, hopefully before Christmas. Five liveries and both the short nose (Mk31) and long nose (Mk32) versions will be included in the package which is going to be priced at a very reasonable EUR19.95. Overall it looks pretty good visually from the available screenshots over on their website. As a simmer of a certain age, it is always nice to see another classic propliner come onto the scene and this unique lumbering freighter is a Christmas gift I will definitely be treating myself to! Things have just not gone well for Boeing in 2019 - https://www.foxnews.com/science/boeings-starliner-off-course-in-orbit-after-launch-debut. Personally I think it is time for Boeing to release the software developers unless it is found the software or spacecraft was hacked. The spacecraft got into space okay but something told it to go into the wrong orbit. Spectre! Where is Bond?

For space flight fans who'll want to see it in real time the uncrewed liftoff is scheduled for 6:36am ET (11:36 UTC) Friday from Space Launch Complex 41 in Florida. Boeing does need this thing to go well and I hope it will.

  13. It is with a somber heart that I announce the last survivor of a pivotal point in aviation’s history has died. The sole living survivor of the Hindenburg disaster is dead. One of the youngest passengers at the time, Werner Doehner, has died in the loving company of friends and family at age 90. Despite giving a few interviews, Werner was deeply haunted by what happened to him back in 1937, having the events of that fiery night literally seared into his memory and having not only lost his father and older sister in the raging inferno and suffered severe burns to his face and both arms and legs. Despite the interviews, he took some aspects of the experience to the grave. …

My final flying days were at the Roswell International Air Center after I retired to Roswell New Mexico. I found a flying partner who was in my age group (60s) at the time and a couple times a month we would split the cost of renting a C152 and fly to some location a half hour or so away and land. Then we would switch seats. One of us would fly the airplane out and the other would fly the airplane back. He is now in his mid 90s and I have past my mid 80s an neither of us is able to fly anymore. RIAC, as it is locally known, used to be Walker Air Force Base. The 509th Bomb Group went there from Tinian after WW2. You may recall the 509th was home to the Enola Gay…

And know a whole lot about you and yours. It's for your own good, you know? Apple, Google and Amazon are cooperating to make your home gadgets talk to each other Amazon, Apple, Google and the Zigbee Alliance announced a new partnership. It’s called Project Connected Home over IP, and it will work to create a new standard that will make it easier for the fragmented ecosystem of smart home products to work together. Right now, Amazon, Google, Apple and others compete in the smart home space, but this has only created headaches for consumers and companies that make smart home products. https://www.cnbc.c…

Never thought that this would be possible and it certainly doesn't get any more ridiculous. This VA is suing the real airline, German Airways! German Airways is a 'new' airline, founded through the merger between the old German airlines WDL and LGW.

  17. I remember well FS2004 and how I felt, this is it, Flight Simulation on the Home Computer has arrived: and indeed at that time it had. As we all know or should know FS9 is alive and well. A retired good buddy of mine, 10,000+ hours of professional eclectic aviation from piloting the ministerial jet to water bombing, said until I recently stuck a VR headset on his head with Prepar3D V4.5 HF2, that's where it ended. The Flight Sim genre was one of the most popular in PC Gaming. It didn't take long for it all to go to WORD NOT ALLOWED. Well in the last few years that has been changing. FSX IMO after my initial efforts with it back in 2006 and 2007 was not wort…

Well, what does XboX have to do with Flight simulation? Nothing at this exact moment, but it's the beastie that will also be competing with PC's for dominance as the preferred platform for Microsoft's upcoming simulator, and I've already heard it mentioned that it might be more cost effective to purchase one of these little powerhouses, than splurge for a next generation PC for the sim. With that in mind, lets see exactly what's going to be inside the things, and how much it might cost......

I know there are a few flight simmers in the Mobile and Pensacola area, and I promised to put together a get together for us after the first of the year so this is my attempt to find some more people. I will also speak to the flight sim shops (aka "the usual suspects") around the area and post notices, and do some additional outreach on other sites. If you're in this general area and are interested, please PM me your info. Best wishes!

In recent times with the uptake of Facebook and similar (recent for us oldies), it is well recognised that there is a darker side, namely the open verbal attacks and rude responses to those participating in the chats. Sadly l feel this seems to be passing over to an increasing number of FlightSim product companies and their forums. l don’t go on the FSUIPC forums to ask any questions as the replies to legitimate questions are often answered with some of the most rude insults l have ever read by a company and/or it’s developer. They are not nice to read and is a sad reflection on what is otherwise a great product. And we should not have to accept this poor behaviour …

Howdy, I hope I am posting this in the right thread, if not then please redirect me. I am trying to learn how to fly a DME arc at the moment and need some clarification. Let's say the DME is 110.8, I can just enter that into NAV 1 and it'll direct me using my CDI, right? There is no other information I need to put into the radio stack on my C172, correct? Much appreciated, Clayton

Hey folks, Just wondering if anyone has an estimate of how many real simmers there are in the world? Excluding Mars or other planets. And excluding the "kids and others" that just consider it a game to see how many times they can crash into a building. Anyone hazard a guess??
