Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

Not sure if this is the right part of the forum to post this.... but I've been thinking. With the release of MSFS2020 around the corner and the fact that I won't have to spend hundreds on scenery add ons. I think now it may be "worth while" to actually fly to every country on the planet.... so to speak. I usually fly for my VA. 737 all over Europe and sometimes transatlantic.. Now however, I've had this little idea cooking in my brain for a while and I'm seeking advice in terms of planning... buy my idea was... To fly from my home in the UK In an aircraft like the TBM? Or perhaps the C90? and fly to every country in the World. Is it even possible to do this without ha…

  9. Take the controls of a “Big Apple” railroading classic with the Long Island Rail Road M3 electric-multiple-unit (EMU) for Train Sim World! During the late 1960s and early 1970s in a major fleet renewal program, New York’s Long Island Rail Road, with funding from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, purchased 770 M1 EMUs constructed by Budd and General Electric. Christened Metropolitans, the M1s immediately became the workhorses of LIRR electric operations. With its business expanding and its electrified trackage being extended, in 1984-1986, LIRR and MTA returned to Budd to acquire 174 similar M3 EMUs. LIRR’s M3 cars stretch 85-feet in length and are construct…

The tech world is turning Big Brother into Big Father, Big Husband, Big Wife, Big Boy Friend, Big Smart Kid, Big Stranger and more. I don't have an Alexia or whatever you call it in my house. Unless I am expecting a call I power down my iPhone in the house. I can check calls after I power it back up. My computers are turned off when not in use. I'm not tech aware enough to trust these devices. A couple months ago I had my iPhone on in it's charger in the living room while watching TV. All of sudden Siri responded to something that was said on the program I was watching. I told someone who is more tech aware than I am about it and he suggested I turn the …

  13. I just posted the following on the Orbx limited user's support forum: I know this isn't the place to post a request like this but it's the only place I have access to Nick. It's been 4 years almost since Sue and I were banished from the forums. I would like to state that Sue was and is a good friend and she was just supporting me. I think in all fairness she should be reinstated. I was the one who misbehaved in JV's eyes (and I'm still not clear as to why), not Sue. She was just being a friend and guilt by association should not extend as long as it has. Sue has always been popular with the Orbx guys and her expertise and knowledge is a valuable asset …

Mods, not sure if hangar chat is the place to post this, so of course move it as required if better judgement prevails SimMarket have just sent me an email informing me of an update to Virtualcol's Dornier 328 regional pack. For those of us who have the product, there are two zip files available, one for 32bit (FSX and earlier P3D) and 64bit (later P3D).

  17. One of the things which somewhat alleviates having to stay in a lot at the moment, is the fact that I do, of necessity, still have to go out on the farm to look after my horsey. Because there are a lot of fields there with nobody about and since I have to be there anyway to look after Snorky, I figured it would be okay to test out one of my many projects. Here is Snorky: And here is one of her stable friends, Bob the Unicorn: And here is the project in question: A 1/92nd scale R/C Flying Fortress, which has a wingspan of just 340 mm. The model started out as one of those cheap EPP backyard flyers, with gyro-stabilisation and two chann…

My First Love doesn't sound like a topic for a flight simulator forum does it? But it happened when I was in the 5th or 6th grade. It was love at first sight. It was an afternoon and I was walking down Van Ness Avenue in Francisco to a school chum's house when I first saw her. Van Ness Avenue at the time was where al the car dealerships were. And we boys at the time knew all about cars. We never talked much about airplanes. But there in the middle of the showroom floor in one of the dealerships she sat. She was beautiful. She was irresistible. My friend could wait. I had to meet this girl. She was a Luscombe 8A. Brand new. I walked in and looked …

Do you use rudder trim? Rudder trim is one thing I never got into the habit of using in flight sim. Aileron trim I use all the time but I pretty much never touched rudder trim. If there is left or right turning tendency I just compensate with rudder or ailerons. Am I missing out by not using it? I designated those button on the yoke to other functions. If you use it, what's your setup? Do you use mouse in VC, keyboard, do you have designated buttons on the yoke, joystick? What do you use to center the trim, if anything?

If your interested in Aviation museums there's a couple of incredibly detailed and free 360 degree virtual tours of the Darwin Aviation Museum, NT and also the Perth Aviation Museum, WA in Australia. Take a good look around a B52, Lancaster, Catalina, Dakota C47, Avro Anson, B-25 Mitchell Bomber , Wessex helicopter, COBRA AH-IG and many other aircraft and displays. There's also the B-24 J Liberator 'Milady' Wreck Site in Cox Peninsula, NT that you can explore without the humidity. Very little chance of international visitors stopping by these locations in person this year and perhaps even next year so a bit of support via online visitors will go a long way and yo…
