Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  1. Call me a cynic, but I very much doubt mainstream media will ever air this real-world, practical approach. Let's have a "drone" (I HATE that word when applied to model multi rotor craft..) get hit by a real aeroplane at an airfield. Yes, they rightly say that increased mass and increased speeds will make a difference, but still this is educational IMHO. Excellent footage of the venerable AN-2. Mind you some may argue that this plane is obviously built like a brick outhouse, and Russian... (I mean that in a good way!). I bet the AN-2 could take a few rounds of 7.62 x 39mm too and still be OK.. 😎

I read this today, I had no idea I am even Canadian and I had no idea Doohan was born in Canada, I thought Shatner was the Canadian and Doohan was from Scotland. Also his military record is quite impressive. Anyone else know about this??? https://historycollection.co/from-killing-word not allowed-to-klingons-james-montgomery-doohan/

  7. Hey, So I know it's unrealistic, but I was trying to figure out a way for me to be able to own a warbird. I was wondering what type of license you need to fly something like that, since they have retractable gear and have more then 200 HP? I know this isn't a FS question, but I was just curious.

Hi guys maybe I would like to put together a new flight simulator in the future. Do any of you know a good company on the net who are also very friendly in dealing with customers. I don't buy software from such arrogant people like AS, so I don't feel like it. I am looking for a company that has a large and good range available and that are competent enough in dealing with customers. I would be really happy for your help. regards from Germany :)

  9. Hi Everyone, I just noticed that the landing lights are retracted along with the landing gears on my DUKE Turbine B60. I did not know that before! So, Correct me if I am wrong. How does one go about having the landing lights on under 10,000ft to comply with the existing regulation, when flying this plane or similar? It seems to me that the beacon light is the only active thing during the flight. I tried to look for an answer every where I could, but I wasn't very successful at that!. so can anyone put a "light" for me? Many Thanks, George

  12. Theses days, the common wisdom in the sim community seems to be : Lockheed-Martin is only really interested by the pro market, the simmers are just beta-testers for them. Microsoft is only really interested by the Xbox gamer market where the big numbers are, not the PC simmer market. Austin Meyer is only really interested in developing an aircraft design tool for the aircraft industry not a full fledge simulator with sceneries, weather and ATC for simmers. Do I see a pattern here 😇 ?

Coverage of their historic mission will begin at 1600 GMT. The launch itself is planned for 2033 GMT. It can be watched on T.V.. 14. Is there some kind of rule that the original subject matter of a thread be adhered to? The 'I'm Outa Here ' topic quickly morphed into other subjects, several. That's the nature of conversations. Have you ever sat down to lunch and started talking about one thing and ended up on a completely different subject? Have you ever had friends or neighbors over for an evening of conversation and talked about several subjects? Have you ever started taking with guys in the FBO or in a hangar abut something and the subject somehow changes? I look at these threads as conversations. What does it matter if it veers off course. This is Hangar Chat. That means we chat ab…

Hi all, After watching these - lets call them debates, in various threads, for awhile now, and I've been thinking of whether or not I should say something... Since my previous posts in here, have been met with anger and condescention, I've had my reasons just to stay clear... But I'll stick my neck out, in the expectation of being decapitated... To be honest... .. I wonder when AVSIM has gotten to the point of being a group of bitter, sour, grumpy psychophants. Who only sees things in the most negative light, are constantly critical to the point of it being ridiculous, IMO. Now, I don't mind people expressing their opinion and having a debate. But …

While I've been flight simming since the good ole days in Flight Simulator 2 I am not a real pilot. I have never taken any classes/courses for ground school or the like. However, I would like to at least 'simulate' what real world pilots do. Right now I fly mostly GA aircraft but will eventually like to upgrade to the larger tubeliners. So, my question for all of you is: Is there any book or site you recommend to teach one the in's and out's on the procedures of flying? I remember with MSFS 2002 (I believe anyway) Rod Machado did a book that was included and walked you through everything to include traffic patterns, IFR flight, ect. I remember it being very well done for …

Anyone try this model out yet? The tutorials on YouTube are very poor quality. In the one video it seemed to porpoise up and down a lot in FLC mode. Wondering if the VNAV actually functions like the real thing? And wondering if DIRECT TO works correctly of it's just piggybacked on top of the same old default FSX FMS system. None of these functions were demonstrated in the video, so I am skeptical. I can't see spending $80.00 to find out.

  21. Sorry for the late post, but I just learned on this amazing, well deserved event. Today the VATSIM Atlanta ARTTC will be honoring the MD-80 Maddog as Delta Airlines has placed the aircraft out of service. If you're not aware, Delta was not only the last major operator of the MD-80, they have been the largest operator of the aircraft for some time. The lack of air travel due to COVID-19 did what many years could not, force Delta to ground their fleet of this truly wonderful aircraft. We'll be flying the event in Shared Cockpit (Leonardo MaddogX) and single cockpit on our Discord server. Come and fly with us and/or watch our live streams of the event on Dis…

What will become of ORBX? For me, there are increasing signs that an era is coming to an end. How do I get it? It is crucial that many users wait for the FS2020. ORBX is constantly launching special offers. The moderators in the ORBX forum no longer report (apparently they are no longer paid) ORBX products can only be installed via ORBX Central. ORBX Central is good for a new installation, however Experienced alt users shoot your FSX or PD3 regularly, so they are often hesitated to use it. The buying behavior of add-ons for the PD3 V4 + 5 is cautious. The quality of the FS2020 is outstanding. In particular what is already …

  25. For any fans of large piston-engine aircraft, a group lead by Manfred Jahn have just released a very nice freeware version of the Blackburn Beverley. This rather unique aircraft was a double-decker, high-winged four-engine military transport developed for and (as far as I know) only operated by the RAF during the 50s and 60s. It could carry over 100 troops or bulky freight loaded through huge clamshell rear doors and was designed to operate in and out of unprepared rough strips. It was quite ungainly looking and if a Shorts 330 can be described as a flying shed this has at least got to be a barn! This freeware aircraft (for FSX and P3D) is beautifully modelled extern…
