How many private pilots in here are considering this rather new (2019) rating, or perhaps have already obtained it - if so was it worth it? I am thinking of getting it in 2021 since it is far easier to stay current than conventional IR rating, the added minima penalties (+200ft) is not something that bothers me. Limitations Single pilot only No high performance airplanes Approach minimums raised 200 feet above standard No less than one mile visibility (1500 meters) Pilots can’t take off unless the departure and destination airports are forecast to be at least 600 foot ceilings and one mile visibility Thoughts?

  2. Hi As the title says, I'm searching information about the operations of this cargo company. I really like to simulate flights with its caravans from KPDX and PANC. In the last few days I've been gathering information about their routes in websites like flightaware and similars. But I'm wondering if any member of the forum could share information about how to operate them for this company. Things like: if there is any priority when you have to choose a RWY to land in an airport like KPDX to avoid long taxi runs, fuel management rules, weights, etc. I understand that most of these rules will be restricted to members of the company, but maybe could share some of th…

I have just retired my 8 year old computer, following a bit of a motherboard meltdown and am obviously looking for a replacement but would like, if possible, the flexibility of a laptop. I've got on the order of £2k / $2½k available and wondered if there's anyone out there who regularly runs P3D v4.5 on a laptop and whether it would be a wise move or not. Looking forward to some interesting answers. RJ

After nearly 10 years away from FS, the new 2020has rekindled my interest and with a new fast pc am eagerly awaiting the 18th August. I’ve decided too to buy a 737 MCP but am not sure which one. The GO flight seems the cheapest at around £400 and the CPflight the most expensive in the sub £1000 class, with Opencockpits version in between anyone tried more than one and could offer some advice. I know it’s unlikely to work on the 18th, but which company do you think might get there first. many thanks

Dear: I presently use FS X Steam and P3D v4.5. I purchased most add-ons for P3D v4.5 and all set with it. Now P3D v5 had come out. May be after some time MSFS 2020 will be in the market. Now I am confused whether I should go for P3D v5 or MSFS 2020. Because it is costly to change a sim platform. Please suggest which one I should select if I go for a change. Regards,Haseen Ahmad.

Since my old go-to aircraft, the Lionheart Quest Kodiak, won't start in P3Dv5 unless I load a different aircraft and then select the Kodiak I've been searching to another aircraft to take it's place. The OZx Grumman Goose fits the bill beautifully. It works great in P3Dv5 and has good visibility over the nose and excellent visibility out the side windows for sight seeing. It will trim to almost hands off level flight at 180 MPH (yes, the ASI is calibrated in MPH, not Knots). Just a touch on the trim button now and then will keep it from straying although the default autopilot works well for complete hands-off cruising. Not as quick as the Kodiak with it's gr…

OK - strictly speaking it's British Airways, and not the UK. And the Queen is, of course, the plane, not the monarch. https://ukaviation.news/british-airways-confirms-boeing-747-retirement/ https://www.bbc.com/news/business-53426886 So the world's largest operator of jumbo jets is retiring their complete fleet of 747s with immediate effect... I sat down in front of the computer screen for 4 hours today and I just couldn't leave it, something I would never, ever do, but why? Because I was watching the Virtual Air Tatto. It should have been Fairford this weekend but obviously, that's not happening. Instead the organizers have put together 2 x 4 hour programs, visiting, the pilots, their aircraft, their bases and loads of other stuff including bits of last years show. It's really laid back, albeit that it's led by and RAF Group Captain, ex Phantom and Tornado pilot. I'm sure a lot here would love it, if you don't get this in time for part 2 on Sunday 11:00 - 3:00 UK time, I'm sure you'll be able to…

Not a name you know right off the bat. She lived from 1885 to 1968. She was a writer and while she doesn't have the fame of Clavell or Michener she is, in my opinion, a superb writer and a Pulitzer Prize Winner. This sequestering had me searching for an author I had not already read. Then I saw the movie Cimmaron a couple months ago and wondered who wrote it. Enter Edna Ferber. She also wrote Giant, Saratoga Trunk, So Big, Show Boat and other movies you older members may have remembered. I decided to look into her books. She was a prolific short story and short novel (less than 300 pages) author. So I started with her short stories and became hooked. I h…
