Back in the Viet Nam war days I had a good friend who flew A4 Skyhawks off the Kitty Hawk. He was ground stationed at NAS Lemoore while the Kitty Hawk was based in Alameda (this is the same guy I posted about earlier that flew under the Golden Gate bridge.....inverted). As my wife and I lived less than two hours away we went down one weekend for a visit with he and his wife. There was a squadron party that night at the Exec's house and we were invited to go along. When we arrived my wife and her friend wandered off somewhere and my friend and I took up seats at a make-shift bar by the pool. When some of the other squadron pilots came by I was introduced and my friend told…

I use FSX-SE. I just bought RXP GTN 750. I realize though that different planes may be best served by other advanced gps software. Most of my planes have panel real estate better sized for a GNS 530/430. What do you all like? RXP, Flight1, or Mindstar? Thanks

Last year I travelled back to South Carolina to spend a weekend playing with my great grandchildren. The first picture are the oldest and youngest members of the family. I was 85 and Jon was almost a year. My two great granddaughters, Elisa and Laila, are 4 and 5 respectively. Noel

The Normal Checklist for the Phenom 300 Power Up section has "F.E.L.R.W" . After a fair amount of Googling and searching in this forum I can't find anything definitive. So.... Whiskey Tango Hotel does this mean? Thanks.

Whenever I read a book or an article about a specific aircraft I like to download that aircraft and re-create the flight I read about. That was pretty easy in FSX since so many aircraft were available for that simulator. Not so with P3Dv5. Having recently finished a second reading of 'Going Downtown' I wondered f the Virtavia F-105 would work as well in P3dV5 as it did in FSX. It does! Everything functions as it is supposed to. Since I fly the Virtavia C-17 in P3Dv5 I kinda thought it might. Now I am re-reading 'Flight of the Intruder' so I installed the Virtavia EA-3B into my P3Dv5 and I am pleased to say it flies as well as it does in FSX. There are …

I recently bought MSFS but can't even download the thing. I assume MS will eventually sort out the problems and present us a great next generation flight simulator, but that is going to take a while unfortunately, and I want to fly now, so I want to check alternatives in the meantime. So there's P3D V5 and the new XP11.50. What do you think? Which one would be the better option for simulating bush flying in Canada or Alaska? (Too bad "Deadstick" is still in development - maybe forever?) Think of available sceneries available airplanes physics in flight, on the ground and on the water (floatplanes!) overall sim performance ... A…

Oops... Microsoft released its rebooted Flight Simulator program in August 2020, immediately wowing gamers with its hyper-realistic scenery, digitally distilled from satellite imagery. The sim gives its users the ability to fly anywhere in the world, with our planet reconstructed with real-time weather conditions using Microsoft Bing mapping technology. So it's a little surprising that a huge terrifying abyss has opened up in the middle of Brazil. Reddit user ReversedWindow appears to have been the first to report the freaky discovery and was brave enough to pilot an airplane down it. …

I understand why some posts are long (> 10 lines / paragraphs) because the poster want to be clear. However they take a long time to read, require excessive storage on the servers and often lead to information overload. Then it may be quoted 1 or more times to exacerbate the problem. Please state your message concisely and relevant to the topic and if needed add more clarity in a second paragraph. We with old eyes will appreciate it. Thanks bs

Since the games real hook is its VR capability, I almost posted this in the VR forum. But because its 2D as well (why?) I put it here! Something I've been looking forwards to, especially at this lower-than-normal price, a nice move from EA. https://www.ea.com/games/starwars/squadrons https://store.steampowered.com/app/1222730/STAR_WARS_Squadrons/

Are there any video sources available of low height overfly landings and takeoffs etc with sound recorded such as on cinema grade equipment that capture in surround sound the power of the heavies? I have been trying to find videos on youtube but it seems the equipment used or the audio stream quality make the sound quite underwhelming leaving a lot to imagination and memory of the real thing.

Just read that Delta announced it will be retiring all its Boeing 717s and 767-300ERs by December 2025, as well as the CRJ-200s by December 2023. With the recent MD-80 and MD-90 retirements, there will be no more rear engine aircraft flying for any of the major U.S. carriers.. The regional airlines will still use them, although those are gradually being replaced as well. I got to fly on a Northwest Airlines DC-9 back in 2007. I was seated near the back of the plane and I remember the loud noise and strong vibrations when they started the engines. The experience was a bit unsettling, as I knew it was an old plane, but I have to admit that it was kind of excitin…

This afternoon I finished Col Broughton's "Going Downtown". He was my vice wing commander in Thailand. The book brought back vivid memories of those days and my association with those pilots...some of whom never returned and others who spent years in the Hanoi Hilton. I do recall some things that were not in Broughton's book. When the bombing missions over the north were going hot and heavy and we were suffering many F-105 pilot losses the Air Force was taking transport pilots and putting them into F-105s at Nellis Air Force Base and making fighter pilots of them. But on some it didn't take. Two months of training at Nellis and then they were sent to the the…

The more you read, the more you know! I had never heard of this amazing escape from a concentration camp during WWII before this morning. I found the "Title's" question on Quora and read it with great interest. https://www.quora.com/What-was-the-most-daring-escape-utilizing-an-aircraft Without recapitulating the entire story here, I'll simply write a brief synopsis of the tale: Boris Sanochkin, a retired Lt. Col authored the above linked answer. In brief Mikhail Devyataev - a former Soviet P-39 pilot shot down by the Germans on a bomber escort mission in 1944, and 9 other prisoners managed to 'borrow' the camp commandant's HE-111 and after several hours of …

There is a box in the right pane on the home page here and when I look at the progress so far this year, and look at how much we all look to this site for support issues, collaboration, and experience sharing... Well... And all of that has exploded with the advent of MSFS 2020. Just saying....

https://www.taipeitimes.com/News/world/archives/2020/09/24/2003743993 We here in the US don't have this problem right? They may charge us a landing fee like $35? maybe but they cannot deny us a landing at big airports here. These are tax funded hence all tax payers can utilize all federal govt facilities except the military facilities. I have flown into DFW Bravo airspace and Norelans Bravo Airspace although I think if I had requested a landing, they cannot deny me that. As part of Angel Flight, I have taken a cancer patient and landed in Houston Hobby after picking her and mom from LubbockTX. They did notcharge me anything.
