The Alraigo Incident occurred on 6th June 1983, when a lost British Royal Navy Sea Harrier fighter aircraft landed on the deck of a Spanish container ship.[1][2] Its pilot, Sub-lieutenant Ian Watson, was a junior Royal Navy Pilot undertaking his first NATO exercise from HMS Illustrious, which was operating off the coast of Portugal. Watson was launched in a pair of aircraft tasked with locating a French aircraft carrier under combat conditions including radio-silence and radar switched off. After completing the search, Watson attempted to return to the Illustrious, but was unable to locate it. Running low on fuel, and with his radio having stopped working, Watson headed t…

When you are sequestered in your house and are looking for new things to do sometimes your brain makes a suggestion. This morning such a suggestion came to me and although this has probably been done by others several times over it was a first for me. I decided to explore Manhattan Island in the Aircreation Ultralight. Starting from LaGuardia I flew towards the North (I think) end of Central park and then turned toward the buildings. I flew above and between and around them until I reached what I presume is Battery Park and then on to and around the Stature of Liberty. Quite a fascinating trip. The framerates remained quite good but I suffered a lot of s…

Sometimes it's fun to make a model of something a little different, and I quite like replicating some famous movie props, so I'm currently having a go at making an E-11 Blaster, which the Imperial the stormtroopers used in Star Wars and is the gun Luke is firing at the bad guys in the scene where he and Leia swing across the gap on a ventilation shaft in the original Star Wars movie when escaping. The original props for the movie were made by modifying Sterling SMGs and adding a German WW2 rifle scope to them. At the time (1976), Sterling SMGs were quite plentiful as they were in the process of being phased out from the British army's arsenal to make way for the L-85…

Hi! My name is Thomas . I'm from Belgium and I'm a visual storyteller/photographer. Since I'm a kid I've been fascinated by flying. Till today I don't have a pilot license but I'm might be planning to do a ULM license soon. I do play Flight Simulator since 1998, stopped for some 10 years and now I could not resist to pick it up with the new FS2020 😊 So why this post … I'm starting a new documentary project in where I would like to meet and interview people (real pilots or enthousiasts) who regularly do flight simulator at home. I have been following some youtube channels for the past weeks and already contacted two persons for an interview! …

Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but if you've got P3D, which Diamond is going to be your best friend? Well here's a video which takes a good look at the differences between the new Vertx DA62 and the (fairly) new Carenado DA62 and doesn't necessarily come to the black and white conclusion you might expect..

This is a really big deal. This material requires high pressure but no longer is extreme cooling required. https://www.sciencenews.org/article/physics-first-room-temperature-superconductor-discovery/amp?__twitter_impression=true "It’s here: Scientists have reported the discovery of the first room-temperature superconductor, after more than a century of waiting. The discovery evokes daydreams of futuristic technologies that could reshape electronics and transportation. Superconductors transmit electricity without resistance, allowing current to flow without any energy loss. But all superconductors previously discovered must be cooled, many of t…

Hello, I am a happy user of the 3 main Flight Simulators: Prepar3d v5, X-Plane 11 and Microsoft Flight Simulator. I am mainly the airline guy. While my main platform is Prepar3d v5 (I have most of the aircrafts for this sim) and I use the X-Plane 11 mainly as a supplementary Flight Sim to those planes that are not available in P3D. As for Microsoft Flight SImulator I mainly use it for the A320 neo mod and waiting for the new payware aircrafts patiently. Currently my hangar contains: Prepar3D: Flight Sim Labs A319, A320 & A321 Aerosoft A330 TFDI 717 PMDG 737 NGX + expansion PMDG 747 + expansion PMDG 777 + expansion …

I love the Slow Mo guys… for those unfamiliar, it’s a pair of young Brits with a high-speed movie camera who started a Youtube following by blowing things up in the grandparents’ backyard. This grew into a sizeable audience, and Gav has leveraged this during lockdown to reach out to their 14 million followers (Dan is temporarily missing): Please take this at face value, and try not to crash the topic with the usual pointless thread-crashing stuff. I was just so pleased that there exists a young guy who has made good, and adds goodness to the world in a matter-of-fact way. Also, if you missed it, there’s a whole lot of great entertainment in…

I downloaded the recently released MB339 and used ModManFX install the plane immediately after takeoff, the plane rocks left and right and is uncontrollable. All other hangar aircraft are fine. anyone else care to chime in on this and hopefully have a fix?

Miss Pick Up, a PBY Catalina based in Duxford, had an engine failure over Scotland and had to land on the Loch Ness and be picked up ashore with a crane. One of her pilots is Matt Dearden who has been for quite some time a pilot in Papua on a Pilatus Porter and now flies out of Great Britain a PC 12. Some pictures of the rescue here. Matt is on Twitter @IndoPilot https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8875421/Second-World-War-seaplane-named-Miss-Pick-suffered-engine-failure.html

Seems, a few days ago, the spotters at what used to be my local airport got all excited when a rare Russian jet visited. Antonov AN-74 was the culprit that got the plane spotters in an excited quiver. All frothing at the mouth they were and some say wetting their pants in excitement. https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/coventry-news/look-rare-soviet-era-plane-19143116 Not familiar with this plane, but it looks like a blown wing design, with thrust directed over the top of the wing to generate more lift.

This was sent to me by a friend this morning. But it probably won't see the light of day here. "They drive with seat belts, stay in lanes, stop at STOP signs, yield to pedestrians, and do a thousand other little things every day as required by law or custom yet wearing a mask against a deadly disease is a bridge too far." Hi, Did someone expirence rapid altimeter changes when approaching KJFK? I experiance it regularly, regardless the runway. The altimeter at KJFK reported by ATIS and in fact at JFK after landing is very different than even few miles before runway threshold. For example, ATIS gives me 30.15 when i am some 50 miles to the airport. But outside its 29.54. When 5-10 miles to the runway it is still around that and starts growing untill reaching 30.15 after landing... Obviously it makes you reach FAF, which is 1500 MSL, at around 600 radar altimeter. It happens to me only at JFK. I am using P3D4.5 with REX Skyforce 3D, FSDT KJFK and ORBX. Appreciate some advi…

That feeling when you're behind the plate in the World Series. And fail to notice that the runner who rounded 3rd has now fallen down on his stomach. And is only half way home but laying on the ground. And so you try a circus swipe tag instead of taking your time. Walk off!

I knew it was coming, and I look forward to the 787, but I will miss the 330. I spent 3800 hours of my life flying her... She was a good ship, that always got my passengers, crew, and I home safely. https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/air-transport/2020-10-22/american-airlines-adds-a330-200s-fleet-cuts
