Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc. Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view. We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

Well, the stainless steel looks a lot better now. Nice and smooth, rather than crumpled as if it had been beaten into shape in a DIY'ers shed. 😆 3:21

Thanks to the randomness of youtube, I found this guy debunking a video he found which says that airliners run on compressed air, and don't use the tons of fuel which the passengers are being "duped" into paying for. I found it amusing, not to mention I love the Welsh accent when they speak English. Brilliant! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPffEJmdB7I

Why do we love to fly? Last evening we were at another couple's house and the wife who knows I am/was a pilot asked me why I loved flying so much. My wife chimed in and said, "Don't ask him. He can't explain it." She's right. Those of us who love flying can't put it into words. We can come close, but that's it. We can only come close. Which is why I have to smile when I hear simulator pilots who have never flown a real airplane talk about 'immersion'. Or argue about which simulator comes closest to real flying. None of them actually do because real flying isn't about smoothness or air traffic control or flight models or frame rates. It's something else.…

I'm looking at creating something for the flight sim community that people would want to use to improve/enhance their flight sim experience. I wouldnt be looking at making anything directly for the sim as that is not really my expertise when it comes to software development but I'd be happy to take suggestions for websites or applications that people think they would need.

Europe’s top aviation regulator said he’s satisfied that changes to Boeing Co.’s 737 Max have made the plane safe enough to return to the region’s skies before 2020 is out, even as a further upgrade his agency demanded won’t be ready for up to two years. Boeing 737 Max Deemed Safe

At least one state removes your absentee ballot if you die before election day. I have a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) card in my wallet in case I am in an accident and there is little hope for recovery. I'm taping a note to that card that says 'Keep me alive until after election day' since I mailed in my ballot a couple of weeks go. Noel

Chock might wear some crazy hats, but I've got an entire outfit! The uniform (1930's period style) arrived today, and it fits quite well even if I do say so myself! Part time chauffeur for a friend's fledgling wedding car hire business... well I would be if it wasn't for the Covids... His first booking is next year now.. anyhow, It's going to be fun learning to drive an 80+ year old Rolls Royce 25/30 as well as a 1980s Silver Spirit, not to mention learning the maintenance regimen. I've never been into vintage cars before, but I always think that it's great to see them being used out and about in the days of GPS, parking sensors and ABS. I just need the leather gauntlet…

I had never heard of these before but read about the new Corsair HS60 Haptic headset yesterday. Apparently it enhances the feeling of low pitch sounds through haptic feedback...I thought this could be pretty cool in a flight simulator in simulating engine rumble etc. Has anyone tried a haptic feedback headset in a flight simulator before? https://www.pcgamer.com/corsairs-latest-headset-dances-on-your-dome-with-haptic-feedback/

A favorite of mine and a story. In the port authority bus terminal for years there stood a Rube Goldberg machine that attracted teenaged me like a moth to a flame. When in the area, I almost always stopped by just to gape at it as I reimagined it dozens of different ways in my head, how I might change it, wondering if my changes could actually work. That pleasant hum when you do complex math, or put your whole mind to a task that requires total concentration. I imagine this gents mind must hum similarly, with the added satisfaction of a craftsman and musician who has actually managed to make his dreams come true. Lucky (and creative) guy!

I have enjoyed playing quite a few first person shooter/adventure type games over the years, but the number and frequency has seriously declined over the past decade. I seem to be getting more and more fussy (which also applies to flight simulation if I am being honest), so the desire to "take a risk" has not been as strong in recent years. I would have loved to have played Half Life : Alyx, but sadly that is only playable with a VR headset, and I am not prepared to spend lots of money on something that I do not really want at this time. One of the first person games that I enjoyed playing in the past was the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R (Shadow of Chernobyl). It was flawe…

This is not a debate about flight sims. Its just my morning thinking. Recently with Covid I found my interests focused on things other than flight simming. I wrote my life's memoir and its being published as we speak. I haven't opened up a sim, except for a brief install of freeware test, all summer. Actually since March 2020. The launch of MSFS2020 happened. I was confronted with watching the discussions and conversations by many. So here I sit, with a P3D4.5+ and XP11.4+ on my PC. My three year old video card is basically useless, getting a "reasonable" new one will be $1,000. I have windows 7 Pro so my system needs to be upgraded, which will most pro…

So far this during this late summer and fall I have read Jack Broughton's 'Thud Ridge' and 'Going Downtown' followed by Stephen Coonts' 'Flight of the Intruder'. Currently I am reading Jack Broughton's 'Rupert Red Two', an auto biography. Waiting to be read again is Chuck Yeager's 'Yeager'. After being on the shelf for a couple years or more books are renewed. They are different because you have changed. You have more life experience. You have self educated a bit more. Your attitudes and outlooks have shifted a bit. Your view of the world has changed. You might even have become a bit wiser. And old books become new books again. So when you read a book f…
