https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/westjet-cuts-1.5761526 WestJet will soon no longer fly to Moncton, Fredericton, Sydney, Charlottetown and Quebec City and drastically cut back its service to St. John's and Halifax. The Calgary-based airline said Wednesday it is eliminating 100 flights, which represent about 80 per cent of the airline's service in and out of Atlantic Canada. The airline also says it is also suspending operations to Quebec City, by removing its flight between there and Toronto. The route cancellations mean that the airline will also shutter its operations in the airports of Charlottetown, Moncton, Fredericton and Sydney. The routes will…

I recently found out about this addon via a forum post which lead me to a few YouTube videos. For those who dont know about it, OnAir is described as "It is a persistent world in which you, as your company's CEO, manage your own airline." I have to disagree about that claim as well as the actual product name as being a bit misleading. When one thinks of "Airline" they tend to think more about routed service by an airline carrier as to where OnAir is more if not totally geared towards Pilot for Hire, Charter Ops. My best way to describe it is FSEconomy on steroids', FSPassengers added in with sprinkles of AirHauler. Basically taking the best of those addons features and cr…

I am a long time Quora subscriber and found a terrific answer to a question someone had asked for, an example of anyone who'd gone from Private to General. The answer one respondent authored concerned the career of Jimmy Stewart (one of my favorite actors of all time). I learned a lot of things about him that I honestly never knew, such as him already being a pilot with a commercial rating prior to joining the war effort as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In fact, years before the attack on Pearl Harbor, Stewart accumulated over 400 hours of flying time in his logbook! He and some others had founded a pilot training school some years before the entry of the…

Has anyone ever considered that by digitally immortalizing an airliner, PMDG et al are doing a huge service to future generations, because they will actually be able to continue to fly them, instead of just settling for a static display?

I'm trying to learn how to fly IFR without using GPS etc. Here's two YouTube tutorials I'm following. Two questions 1. If you goto https://skyvector.com/ and look around New Zealand. I can't find many "V" airways. What's the difference between Q, H, W, Y and V.. I've also found A, B and L... some are blue, others black? 2. Can someone attempt to explain what you're trying to achieve with the VOR radial display? I understand a VOR sends a signal which is decoded and tells the airport which direction the VOR is in relation to the aircraft and that the needs moves. a) Why do you rotate the VOR display? what are you moving it towards? is it the dire…

Hello, where should I post a question comparing aircraft models between different simulators? (as there are dedicated groups for each one) I'd like opinions about what is the nearest reality option in terms of flight modeling, response, etc, for Cessna 152, between MSFS2020 and X-Plane11. I though the provided model in MSFS2020 too loose and excessively responsive, and the JustFlight model I just bought for XPlane11 in opposite seems too slow in response (what makes things artificially easier). As my intention is to do a self-training of all procedures before going to real life training with this aircraft, I'd like to know which one is nearer the rea…

I mean they released FS 5.0 and it was the first version that worked with windows instead of DOS. You could go into any Costco and see stacks of boxes of Flight Simulator 5 out on a table by the check out stand, you did not even have to look for it on a shelf somewhere in that big warehouse. And then a few months later boxes marked FS 5.1 were there instead. You could NOT upgrade from 5.0 to 5.1, you had to pay the full price again! Wouldn't it be funny if Microsoft did that trick again with these updates, he he !

Several days ago I mentioned two books. Going Downtown by Col Jack Broughton and Flight of the Intruder by Stephen Coonts. I had read them both several years ago and decided to re-read them now that I am a bit older and, hopefully, wiser. Even though I was Air Force and served with Col Broughton when he was the vice wing commander of my unit I would recommend Flight of the Intruder as a better book if you want the in the cockpit experience of flying combat over North Vietnam in an A-6 Intruder. Coonts goes into exquisite in the cockpit detail of flying through flak and avoiding SAMs and the teamwork between the pilot and bombardier sitting next to each other and …

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-8823805/Icelands-active-volcano-preparing-erupt.html I remember her the first time well I remember the daily call in conference with Eurocontrol and all the daily dramas and silly questions from the non european airlines " Hello its royal air brunei, can we fly into EGLL tomorrow?" "no all UK airspace is closed" "oh fine, we will file for EGCC then" They where there brillant "oh hi there buddy, its US Aiways here, can we fly into EGKK landing at 0900z" ""no all UK airspace is closed" "sure buddy ok, great. is EGSS open at 0900z then" it was the highlight of our day that tw…

Intercepted a B52 flying in international airspace. Then had the cheek to wag wings, the recognised signal to follow him. Then cut across the B52's nose dangerously close causing wake turbulence.
