Avsim front page about KATL Atlanta (presumably before covid): "96 million passengers board nearly 1 million flights to over 200 destinations every year." 96,000,000 / 365 days =263,014 passengers boarding at KATL daily. A quarter million every day!

I know we're not supposed to talk about the corona virus here but maybe some of you will read this before the moderators delete it. The virus death toll here in Roswell increased by 2 yesterday, One of them was my brother. He tested positive last week an he died yesterday afternoon. He was 84 years old and had underlying conditions so I knew when they told me he tested positive it would only be a matter of days. When someone near and dear to you succumbs to the virus it ceases to be a debatable subject. It becomes more serious than that. Noel

Let's take a few moments to enjoy a bit of light traveler's humor: An elderly Canadian gentleman of 83 arrived in Paris by plane. At the French customs desk, the man took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry-on bag. "You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked, sarcastically. The elderly gentleman admitted he had been to France previously. "Then you should know enough to have your passport ready." The Canadian said, "The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it." "Impossible, Canadians always have to show your passports on arrival in France!" The Canadian senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look, then he…

A while back I posted some pics of a work in progress, this being to make a cheap toy look like the 'real thing'. The 'real thing' in this case being the E-11 Blaster used by the Stormtroopers in Star Wars. Starting off with this cheap plastic toy:: Ending up with this: https://i.imgur.com/lNSvdwy.jpg[/img Making it presented a few interesting problems. I looked at pictures of one of the original props, which can be seen here. As you can see from that, the original prop was a bit ropey, in fact there were about 20 props made for the original Star Wars film, and of those, there were basically two versions, there were ones which retained the firing …

So just a quick question but is anyone at Avsim monitoring news and updates on the Avsim front page? It seems to rarely (weekly, sometimes less) get updated anymore and rarely has any information on news or releases. Just wondering if it has gone to pasture or if anyone is supposed to be keeping up with it? I check a few other sites and they tend to have multiple updates per week sometimes even multiple a day whereas Avsim really has no updated information anymore other than the forums... Understanding this is all volunteer I am not trying to complain but there is really no need to go to the Avsim front page for updates anymore, just straight to the forums. Even in …

I finally got around to having my prized Memphis Belle photograph framed. It was taken in 1943 on the day she left England for the last time. It's special to me because it's signed by Capt. Bob Morgan (the pilot) and I bought it directly from his wife Linda (probably along with a couple of hundred others). As I hung it on the wall I was reminded of an incident which occurred when the Belle was still on display at Mudd Island, Tennessee. My wife and I were in a group listening to a short presentation about the Belle from one of the folks working on the restoration. Several times during the presentation the presenter referred to the Belle as a B-17G. Finally, about the fift…

  18. I've been following Space X and, boy, are they plunging ahead into the future. If you have not seen those rockets land themselves vertically yet, check it out. If they can do that, it makes you wonder what the future of airliners will be. Now that their vehicle is certified by NASA, their first operational flight with a crew of four looks like it's going to be tomorrow night. The problem isn't weather at the launch site, but getting the boat where the rocket lands itself out of rough seas. I've been looking forward to their Starship's 15 km test flight. Talk about something right off of a 1950s science fiction novel. Best case scenario, it cuts engines 15 km up, does…

On November 12, 1970, the good people of Florence, Oregon came together to address the issue of a beached grey whale that was apparently too big to be removed with any method other than a dynamite explosion. According to a 1990 Washington Post article, the whale was 45 feet long and weighed eight tons. “The responsibility for getting rid of the carcass was placed upon the Oregon State Highway Division,” the article reads, “apparently on the theory that highways and whales are very similar in the sense of being very large objects.” With all the enthusiasm of a group of horrible kids burning ants with magnifying glasses and strapping firecrackers to frogs, the Highway …

  21. Court Line operated a couple of pastel L1011s from EGGW Luton during its brief existence in the 70s. Lockheed produced this promo for them featuring the L1011's design, construction and testing. When Court Line went belly up, one L1011 was stranded with passengers in Canada. Captain Peter Hogg, without authorization and possibly without insurance, flew them back to England anyway. The same Captain Hogg murdered his air hostess wife in 1976. He was tried at the famous Old Bailey and acquitted on the grounds of provocation: she was unfaithful. Hmmm... I don't think I could make that one fly.

I was uninstalling some stuff through Control Panel in WIN 10 and came across something called GPEDT.MSC with the publisher named RICHARD. There isnt much info on the internet except that it is most likely maleware masquerading as a legit windows group policy editor. I am not one to just randomly down load stuff off the internet and I do run AV and firewall but it seems to have missed this as several post on the internet state that even malwarebytes does not detect it. So I am thinking that a freeware add on that I approached the DL of most likely is the culprit. I wont say which ones I have installed because I dont know for 100 percent that those are t…
