Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

With over 47K members and usually 1K online at any one time, I really understand the “game” label used by thousands to describe Microsoft Flight Simulator. So many posts (perhaps close to the majority), I would classify as just non-sense. But, over a million copies sold to date, can’t be wrong. Who would argue with that. To each his own as they say.

I have to admit that my mind is pretty numb after watching this roll out. Like most, I expected that it would be a dumpster fire and it was. I live in Pensacola and today I see that the Gulf Coast in expecting not one but 2 possible land falling hurricanes one in LA and 1 on the Alabama/Florida state line. Now I am not talking about in the same year, not even during the same week, oh no! It looks like on about the same day!! I never even thought that was possible! Considering all of the things the world has faced in 2020 I ask you support in a email campaign to remove the 2020 name from this simulator. The year 2020 has become the new Friday the 13th. That you all in adva…

A couple of months ago I started rereading Michael Palin's book "Pole to Pole", it recants an epic journey that he took from the north pole to the south pole. While reading it I had a thought, maybe I could follow his journey using FSX. The first problem was that after leaving the north pole, Michael's first stop was a place called Station Nord. FSX doesn't have that airfield, but not a problem, as I am able to add new fields. I've now caught up with the book at Luxor, next stop is Aswan. I'm wondering if anyone else has been inspired to fly an epic sim flight after reading a book?

  11. Hello everyone! I am excited to announce you the imminent release of the version 2.0 of my Damage Mod for the Flight1's BN-2 Islander! A few bugs fixed, an interface with FSCaptain, and last but not least, COMPATIBILITY with P3Dv4 of the WHOLE Islander (except the KLN90a). Cockpit sounds are back and no more never-ending rumbling sound! (thx to Bert Pieke and DJJose). The following systems will wear out and will be inflicted damage in case of improper use : - engines - generators - propellers - flaps - flaps motor - flight controls - autopilot - vacuum - pitot tubes - brakes - structural deicing (the corresponding switch is added to the virt…

All, my trusty x52 Hotas is dying. Decided to replace it and I’ll be darned if I can find anything, Logitech, Saitek (now Logitech) or Thrustmaster. All majors (Best Buy, new egg, Amazon) report Out of Stock and seem to be only selling used devices. That’s my experience at least. Anyone know of a vendor who still has some in stock? TIA, -Braun

  13. One of my recent flights (ongoing) is a trip from RAF Brize Norton to RAF Mount Pleasant in the Falkland Islands (A330 MRTT). My route passed over an area denoted on the FSX GPS as a small black-outlined square in the middle of nowhere in the Atlantic Ocean. The black lines on the FSX map usually denote country borders. This square was not near Ascension Island. Puzzled, I zoomed in and yet nothing shows, nor did I see anything when panning the view around in the sim. I inject live weather to the sim and the METAR was showing as coming from a Brazilian airfield situated on an island far closer to the Brazilian coast. I eventually deduced that the border on the FSX ma…

During lunch these days I am punishing myself re-reading Col. Jack Broughton's "Going Downtown". Punishing myself because I was a part of the receiving end of it. The command structure running the Vietnam War was top heavy. At the top were the twin oracles of the president and the secretary of defense who had no concept of how to wage a war but considered themselves experts. It was top heavy pyramid made of granite at the top and balsawood at the bottom that had to be constantly shored up by the ants in the balsa wood at the base. I was one of those ants. Col. Broughton was my vice wing commander while I was there. I never met him personally but we did …

Hi guys, I'm looking for a multi-leg VFR trip tracker. Basically, with the new MSFS, I want to do a Cape Town -> Oslo flight consisting of short VFR hops, but it would be great to see each leg's route beforehand, as well as the progress so far. Basically like LittleNavMap, but persistent across all legs in the trip. I've thought of ProjectFly, but it doesn't seem to have a way to just show tracking for one multi-leg trip (just shows all of your flights to date). Any chance something like this exists? If not I'll throw something together using the Google API, but was hoping some of you may already be using something good.

I'm looking at picking up an Intel 10900K from ShopBLT. Due to covid and overseas shipping delays the CPU is out everywhere. ShopBLT seems to have really good and positive reviews and I can preorder from them to get one in Sept/Oct timeframe which works for me because I'm also waiting for the Nvidia 3080ti to release. Any feedback would be appreciated.

  24. Started by HighBypass,

Well , hangar chat can be random so I wanted to ask my friends & colleagues on here where I should source some new filters for the S10 respirator I picked up recently. Don't want to get scalped on price here in the UK. New filters in-date are obviously better than shelf-expired, sealed ones, but I believe its more to do with the activated charcoal running out rather than the particulate filter. There seem to be far too many options on ebay, but I know I should steer clear of MP5 filters as some of those had asbestos in them... Thanks.
