April 23, 20206 yr Hey all, My little brother is desperate to get a flight sim. I guess he just wants to be like his brother 🙂. What are some decent flight sims which will be able to run on an old macbook air? I looked at Aerofly FS2 but was disgusted by the lack of clickable buttons in the cockpit! April 23, 20206 yr Your only real options for a MacBook Air would be an older version of X-Plane or Flightgear. MacBook Airs have always had slower processors and integrated graphics, so are pretty limited for gaming in general, let alone sims. Great laptops for portability and battery life though!
April 23, 20206 yr I would consider having the MacBook emulate a PC so that it could run something like FSX. Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

I just spotted Flight Gear - it looks like... erm... FS98... but I reckon it'll be perfect for him. William Sandford Check out SwitchNowUnicom on Twitch! MacBook Airs are great for portability and battery life, but not so hot for any serious 3D gaming or simming. Most, if not all, MacBook Airs have sub 2 GHz CPUs, non-upgradeable RAM and many older models only came with 4GB of RAM. As Chock mentions, you could try installing Apple's Boot Camp to run Windows and maybe FS9 directly on the Air. This, however, won't overcome the limited hardware.
