For those wondering why I hadn't purchased yet, wonder no more. About 10 hours ago I deleted the Beta (which no longer worked anyway), loaded up the Store app, and got the Super Duper Deluxe version. (For those wondering why the heck I'm posting this, several people have asked me why I hadn't purchased yet, especially after being in the Beta. It's because I like to see community feedback before buying.) Now, about 9.5 hours later, I've got everything downloaded, installed and set up. The process was surprisingly painless after reading about some of the problems people have had. It may have been helped along by the fact that I'd gone through it with the Alpha…

  3. I remember seeing this the other day but can't find the thread again. Are long range flight plans causing FPS crashes? I did a flight in the TBH from KPDX to KSFO and I was getting very good performance until I got to crusing altitude. Then, about every 3 or 4 minutes, all my CPU cores would spike to 100% and my FPS would plummet to like 10 for a few seconds. I was over rural scenery. Beautiful mountain scenery, but no cities. Is anyone else experiencing this. Has anyone found a fix? Thanks very much.

Pondering on all the names this sim as taken on.... Microsoft Flight Simulator MSFS MSFS2020 MFS MFS2020 MFS20 FS2020 FS20 Have I missed any. It seems all simm’s go through this process. Hopeful that the time will come when we can settle on a standard. My preference would be MFS20 or just MFS. Next on the list would be FS20. Thinking outside the box, we used to call a predecessor - FSX which stood for FS version 10, extrapolating that we could have FSXX for version 20!

  5. Hi all, Question on low-end hardware as i feel that most hardware topics are about 4K/VR/i9 etc. I run: - i5-7400 at 3.5GhZ - 8 GB DDR 4 RAM - 1 TB HDD - GTX 1050 2 GB VRAM - iiyama G-Master Black Hawk GE2288HS-B1 monitor on 75 HZ, 1920 x 1080 How would adding an extra 8GB DDR 4 RAM impact my performance? Mind you, I am not looking for extreme graphics, all sliders to max etc. Just want a medium experience since MSFS will be so much better than FSX anyway.

  6. Many in this forum indicate that the Xbox 360 Wireless Game Controller is great for controlling the drone. Unfortunately, I'm unable to get MSFS 2020 to recognize my Xbox 360 wireless Game Controller. I've tried many of the tips suggested in various forum threads involving problems recognizing controllers and nothing has helped. The most common suggestion I've seen has been to plug an unrecognized controller in when running FS 2020 while it's in setup mode. But for me this causes an immediate CTD. My Xbox Controller is recognized in the Printers and Devices control panel and in Device Manager. It is recognized and works flawlessly in P3D v5 and XP11. It just isn't re…

I can’t get into MSFS forums for some reason so I don’t know what’s going on. What’s the word on the live weather? It’s pretty bad there’s absolutely no winds a loft and I haven’t seen any convective activity where there should be unless I fly through a hurricane. All I know is they hyped up their weather immensely and it’s quit a let down right now. Even if pmdg releases their plane it’s unflyable for me unless there is winds a loft data. Is active sky going to release something? Or are they going to fix/better their live weather? Looks like I have to buy p3dv5 and start re installing all my add ons.

Hello everyone. I´m new here and i can see that many of you are "on" the FS2020 so i wil ask and see if i can get some help. Since 24 hours i get stuck on the loading screen "CHECKING FOR UPDATES" Those are the steps: 1- 2-Here it says that they can´t synchronise with the cloud so i try the "offline connection" 3-Click on "next" 4-And here is where i get stuck I have uninstalled the game, also i´ve been following those suggestions in the FAP here: https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015999539-Stuck-on-the-TBM-loading-screen- But still the same. 10. OMG! Thank you, AVSIM, for putting the MSFS Tips and Tricks sub-forum... I am having the most significant yet...OMG! experience, on day 5 post RTM. Thank you to the tip'ster that said, you can (I never even touched this...didn't really understand fully what it did...how it worked...BUT I DO NOW!!!!) slide your RENDER scale down from 100 and see pretty serious FPS gains...but...with very little visual degradation that your eye will see. ...was he/she ever right...wowzer! So...I am running 3440x1440 native, which is about 80 % true 4K, right? Well around there...and in the settings that I have contributed as try this....try that...I was getting on…

  11. Hi everyone, Back in 2018, Active sky has published their roadmap for 2019/2020, and I've been very curious about a project they have for 2019/2020 call Project Alpha. "Our secret skunkworks project, in the works for several years, continues development. While we still can’t share any details on Project Alpha, we hope to announce it sometime in late 2019 or early 2020" As they already have project for p3d and Xplane, I was wondering if it could be a project for MS2020, especially because they don't want to talk about before 2020, maybe due to an NDA 🤔 What do you think ? I really am feeling bad about the teams at Laminar and Lockheed that for many years has kept this hobby alive. Lockheed has some other sources of income so not so much for them naturally. Sure - they have known this for a year, but I think that many of us after actually having tried MSFS realize that it really is game over for them. For a year or two before complex aircraft are migrated they have a role to fill. But no third party developer will put down money on new complex content for P3D or XP unless it's easy to migrate from new MSFS models. I sure would stop any such ideas if I was on the board of those companies. The DCS and IL2 teams are naturally are a b…

Is there any better place to purchase the current add-ons? I know Orbx says if you already own a previous version of a new release for MSFS you have to buy it on their site to get the discount. What about new products? Is one better than the other for the new products?

  16. Landed the 172 at my home airport after a manual trip around the city and somehow got the "By the book" one for starting the 320's engines manually, and also somehow got "deadstick landing" which I saw actually pop up in the sim as I was landing. Uh, the engine was on all I did was pull the throttle all the way back the same as landing the 152 last night at a different airport. Strannnnnge.

I am trying to cache the Seattle area. I set a max overall cache size to 10GB. I select the Seattle area around BFI at "High". I select "Cache New Region" and it briefly shows a screen saying "Downloading" but then that screen vanishes and nothing happens. I have tried it as well on medium and low but get the same result. I restarted the sim and went through that process again but was met with the same result. It does not appear to be downloading and nothing shows in the "Cached Regions" box. Am I doing something wrong? Seems plenty of folks are able to cache and I could not find anything about this via Google. Thanks.

I have heard there is a way to download cities to a HDD and something about a rolling cache. Can somebody help me?

Well, I successfully installed MFS into a separate user account to avoid conflicts with P3D and everything went fine. However, I appear to be at an impasse because a while back I modified my Logitech yoke to be more accurate (which it is) and with less resistance (which it does). MSF recognizes the BU0836-LC controller chip that I installed, but it has no idea what to do with it! Ah, the dangers of hot-rodding to non-spec configurations... 🙂 I guess I am okay, though - I was accepted as a Fulcrum yoke early-access customer, and with the Honeycomb Bravo unit going live for pre-orders in September, I think I can wait. Before I crashed because I oversho…

  20. It took me a week to complete the downloading process, but I finally seem to have all of the required content. The download is enormous, 1 gigabyte for the installer and the executables, and 100 gB for the aircraft and scenery files. I ran into constant crashes during the download, and discovered there is a serious bug in the downloader: if the download is interrupted for any reason, it won't pick up where it left off: you have to delete the most recent file, then restart the downloader. Eventually, on the last day, I thought to take a look at the Windows Event logs, and realized that the downloader was crashing due to OOM problems: you can't download MSFS 2020 and be doi…
